White House Backtracks On Lost Intelligence Claims

A day after warning that potentially critical terrorism intelligence was being lost because Congress had not finished work on a controversial espionage law, the U.S. attorney general and the national intelligence director said Saturday that the government was receiving the information -- at least temporarily.

On Friday evening, Atty. Gen. Michael B. Mukasey and Director of National Intelligence J. Michael McConnell had said in an unusually blunt letter to Congress that the nation "is now more vulnerable to terrorist attack and other foreign threats" because lawmakers had not yet acted on the administration's proposal for the wiretapping law.

just like the puffed up Freedom's Watch ad before Petreaus' September Assessment by the 527 Group telling Americans how we NEED to STAY in Iraq for the sake of those who have already paid with their lives, and even displaying the Twin Towers in the background, all RNC talking points - over, and over, and over.

Now they're going after the DEMS who haven't caved in YET to the REQUEST by the BUSH ADMINISTRATION to Grant Immunity to the Telecoms ILLEGAL SPYING on AMERICANS by going "ALONG WITH" the BUSH ADMINISTRATION who Requested it!!!

Bush and his ilk are just trying to protect their butts.

There is no correlation to granting immunity to ILLEGAL ACTIVITY and protection the American people.

Besides, there's a FISA law already in place - with a 72 hour grace period after the SPYING or surveilling occurs so it is ON RECORD.

but Bush doesn't want his illicit activities on record.

DON'T CAVE IN Tim Mahoney, Robert Wexler or Ron Klein!!!!!

maybe someone should tell the RNC about this because I've been watching these apocalyptic commercials they are running against Tim Mahoney, Ron Klein and Robert Wexler down here in Palm Beach County-talk about fear-mongering bullshit.

Call your Congressperson if you are seeing these in your District, and stand by them.

After all, they are supposed to be representing you and me.

I called Robert Wexler's office, and they thanked me for my support.

Everyone who'se affected needs to show their support AGAINST these VILE and ISIDIOUS ADS!!!

You mean George W. Bush's "intelligence" directors are lying thugs who would think pissing on the Constitution is a sport?

I'm shocked,SHOCKED I say!

Regarding the Constitution of the United States, George W. Bush referred to it, and I quote, "Its just a goddamned piece of paper!!"

Any questions, LoRiseAntlers?

These fuckers are playing the fear card only it isn't working so well these days. The most dangerous animal is a cornered one and I, sadly and hopefully incorrectly, predict that we will experience a false flag op that will put off the elections and put Americans in a status that they have never been in before.

There are plans for camps to incarcerate dissenters like us... the camps and the plans around them have existed for 20years. The Army has a plan regarding Civilian Labor Camps.... we all need to be careful and adament that these fuckers are removed from office. They are assholes and they are dangerous.

How would the WH know? In seven plus years that haven't collected enough intelligence from any source to be able to form an opinion about anything.

Does anyone think it is a good thing that the DNI has, more than once, lied about this legislation?
Can we, as a nation, afford to have a DNI that is in the habit of lying to the American people?
Rep. Rush Holt, my congressman, rebutted this man here at HuffPost though he did it answering Joe Klein.

No one should believe that Bush did this for security reasons. He and Karl Rove wanted to spy on anyone they damn well wanted to spy on and ONE CAN BET THEY DID.

They have spied on anyone whom they deemed to be a political foe, which means all the Dems, and anyone who donated or worked for them.

They were SPYING BEFORE 9/11. For me, that makes it even more stunning, that even with spying they were unable to stop 9/11. Really, folks, if anyone thinks that they didn't know the large part of 9/11 before it occurred, and permitted it happen, then they are fools.

Karl Rove and Cheney WANTED 9/11 SO BADLY THEY COULD TASTE IT.

They did 9,11

If this true the Democrats failed in their efforts to use civil suits against innocent third parties to stop the legal warrantless wire tapping. Hopefully this is true.

Those willing to give up liberty for security deserve neither, why do you hate America?

The alliance between business and government to control the citizenry through economic pressure and fear is the Fascist program that Bush and his allies have been fashioning for some time now.

Business, the military, and the government are in league to make sure we are too afraid to deny them what they want, which is a passive populace to rule.

Note Glenn Beck's nonsensical foray into Liberal Fascism on his show. He claims that large scale social programs to aid the citizenry through the power of government is fascism.

In other words, government should leave the people to themselves and at the mercy of large business and industrial interests - a return to the 1890's and the ability to rob the public treasury at will by lobbyists for the friends of those they place in power.

Fascism is a Conservative form of government, but people like Beck would have you believe his word twisting and remain ignorant of the political forces that really are destroying our country.

Glenn Beck is just another media whore who lays down for $$$! He looks to me like he is half in the bag and is a few cards short of a full deck.

These Cretans wouldn't let some little old law stop them from doing whatever the fuck they want. They seized power, they stalked into the government and took whatever they wanted. They hired friends and family to do important jobs they weren't nearly qualified to do. They've lied, murdered, cheated and marginalized opponents. Why does anyone think they are suddenly going to be law abiding?

Nothing will change until Bush/Cheney and Company are GONE!

AT&T began wiretapping at the request of the NSA and administration in February, 2001, not after 9/11. Rice, Cheney & Bush authorized the clandestine, illegal, unwarranted spying upon American citizens immediately after entering the White House. The reason Bush & Co. want to immunize the telecoms is to prevent them from having to disclose when, where, upon whom, and by whose orders the secret wiretapping program began. The Protect America Act passed last summer made the wiretapping legal after-the-fact, and presumably to cover up the White House & NSA's crimes against the Constitution commencing in early 2001. To prevent any lawsuits, testimony, disclosure of evidence or orders eminating from them, the administration is insisting upon the retroactive and future immunity, so they can continue to violate the 4th Amendment, our legal and civil rights with no accountability. Bush is afraid that if any case gets to court, the telecom execs will spill all (tell the truth, show letters/orders, and expose how they were coerced -bribed-or-threatened into implementing the wiretapping program). That could leave Bush & Co. with some potentially serious allegations against them, not that Congress or the MSM would do anything about it, other than whine and shrug.

Unfortunately, I couldn't have said it better.

You touched on EVERY POINT why this corrupt Administration is doing EVERYTHING in its power to put pressure on the FEW BRAVE DEMS in Congress (unlike their counterparts in the Senate) who are standing up to these thugs.

Congressman Wexler, hold your ground.

Don't be one of those legislatures - who ofentimies out of convenience - says they REGRET their vote.
