I envy all those who have not yet seen her performance. I would love to again have the experience of seeing it for the first time.
As with the performances of F. Murray Abraham as Antonio Salieri in "Amadeus" and Ben Kingsley as "Gandhi", hers is sublime.
Sometimes the planets line up, the stars align, and the good guys win. A truly righteous award for a superb performance. Never again will someone with the "press" call Cotillard "that girl what's-her-name in that French movie," or say that Academy voters won't select any actor in a film in another language or which is subtitled. She arrived virtually unknown in America, and today is world-famous (I saw the Chinese newspapers).
Knowing nothing about the movie or Marion, I was bowled over by the transformation from the old has-been singer (looked like Judi Garland in her last stages) to the beautiful young actress. What a freaking transformation! You can't do that with just makeup!
And Cate Blanchett's joyful response was classy!
Yeah, she did give the best performance of the year. Congrats to the Academy on getting that one right.
Did anyone notice Cate Blanchett's happy surprise when Cotillard's win was announced? It's nice to see such an unselfish moment from someone in Hollywood.
I couldn't believe how beautiful she is, much more beautiful than she was in the film. She's very charming too.
Actually, she didn't speak "broken English" at all. Her English was actually excellent, almost native fluency, if you ask me.
Yes, she was a delight.
I didnt see her movie but i am sure she was terrific, still i was rooting for ellen page
You have to see it. It as one of the best performances in all history. Seeing her in real life, it's even more amazing.
This Oscar was truly well deserved. Cottiard's performance as Edith Piaf is a classic tour de force and will go down in history as one of the greatest film performances of all time. If you haven't seen it, you must. She is amazing!!!
What a sweetheart. For a longer & equally moving acceptance speech, check out her win at the BAFTAs :

Her very best speech, not surprisingly, was when she won the César. It's in French but even if you don't speak the language, her sincerity and emotion still shine through.

And of course none of these speeches compare to the power of her performance in La Vie En Rose.
Bravo, Marion!
That's truly beautiful and moving.
Even the actors that lost out to her can't be mad after seeing the sheer joy, appreciation and overwhelming poetry of her soul in expressing her gratitude and surprise at winning such a prestige.
I mean, I loved Juno and never saw La Vie En Rose, but I might have to check it out now if for nothing else then to see what kind of performance such a graceful and honest actor turned in to merit the award.
Bravo!
Bravo!
