McCain: Iraq War "Will Be Over Soon"

In a townhall meeting today, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) was asked about the status of the situation in Iraq. McCain, who notoriously said last month that U.S. troops could be in Iraq for another 10,000 years, said "the war will soon be over":

That reminds me this 100 year thing. I was asked in a town hall meeting back in Florida, how long would we have a presence in Iraq?

My friends, the war will be over soon, the war for all intents and purposes although the insurgency will go on for years and years and years. But it will be handled by the Iraqis, not by us, and then we decide what kind of security arrangement we want to have with the Iraqis.

This coming from the same guy who not only said let's stay 100 or 1000 years in Iraq, but also had this to say to a group of high school students at a town hall last year:

"If this war continues much longer, there will be people in this audience who will serve in the military, who also may be going over there (in Iraq)."

Every parent with a high school kid should take a good hard look at that quote I just posted.

Yes McCain, the war will be over soon. As soon as the American people elect a President that is intent on ending the war - oh, by the way that is not you!

A message for McCain:

My friend, the war will be over soon, but not with you in office.
I think in actuality, YOU will be over soon.

Republicans = Military Failure

Nice flip-flop, MyCane! "We could be in Iraq for the next 100 years". Bush just yesterday saying that the next GOP POTUS will keep up the fight. NOW, this comment.
The Dems should put this on EVERY commercial they make until November.
The only way to ensure the majority of troop withdrawal (to about 40,000 troops- Bush F'ed up the ME region to an extent where we can't pull out all), we MUST elect a Democratic POTUS.
Send MyCane boxes of depends. He needs them now.

I do hope that all registered Republicans are not thought to be in favor of that war-hungry McBush. I'm going to vote for the unknown Republican, for the "RP" fellow, the one who wanted, from the beginning, not to have us involved in any of the bloody doings in that religious cesspool between Palestine and Pakistan. However, he has been shunned by the major media and even his own Party. One cannot wonder if the corporate media and the neoconned Republicans really want this war ever to end.

I'm not wondering.
The GOP clearly wants perpetual war.
RuPaul is part of that gang.
Maybe you should wonder about that.

Yes, the "war" will be over "soon".
That will be because McBomb will not be president.

Kind of sounds like "they are in the last throes" from old man cheney right? Mac is looking lately like a caged animal with all the crap raining on him. I guess that is why Mittster is coming around and making noises again right? Huckabee has prayed for that miracle which will put him at the top. All together three men are hanging around and two are hoping real bad for a mac fall.

McCain aka McCrazy reminds me of a friend's grandfather who fought in Korea. He's in the final stages of Alzheimer's disease all he remembers and talks about is how he wanted to go back to Korea but the war had ended. Then he shows you his old army uniform and says I keep it ready for the next one. There are some military people that can't get it out of their blood McCrazy is one of them.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 02:54 AM on 02/26/2008

Yes, you could believe this because McCrazy has already said "there will be other wars" can't do that if you'll still in Iraq. I don't know who I fear most Bush or McCrazy. I swear if this man is elected I'm soooo out of here.

“Pakistan Criticises Obama After Warning on Military Strikes

Ewen MacAskill in Washington
Saturday August 4, 2007
The Guardian
Pakistan criticised the Democratic election contender Barack Obama yesterday over his warning that as president he might order military strikes against al-Qaida targets in the country's border areas.
As protesters burned the US flag in Karachi, Khusheed Kasuri, Pakistan's foreign minister, said: "It's a very irresponsible statement, that's all I can say. As the election campaign in America is heating up, we would not like American candidates to fight their elections and contest elections at our expense."
The response from Pakistan was mirrored in criticism from Hillary Clinton and other Democratic rivals.
Mr Obama, in a speech on Wednesday, said President George Bush had chosen the wrong battlefield in Iraq and should have concentrated on Afghanistan and Pakistan.
He said he would not hesitate to use force to destroy those who posed a threat to the United States, and if the Pakistani president, Pervez Musharraf, would not act, he would.
That speech may have played well with Democratic activists and the public at large. But before any poll could be held to test reaction, Mr Obama showed uncertainty on Thursday in an interview with the Associated Press.
He appeared to be caught off guard when he was asked if he would use nuclear weapons against al-Qaida in Pakistan.
Mr Obama replied: "I think it would be a profound mistake for us to use nuclear weapons in any circumstance." He added: "... involving civilians".
Demonstrating a degree of unpreparedness, he went on to say: "Let me scratch that. There's been no discussion of nuclear weapons. That's not on the table."
Ms Clinton pounced, portraying herself as more savvy and dependable on foreign affairs.
"Presidents should be very careful at all times in discussing the use or non-use of nuclear weapons," she said.
"Presidents, since the cold war, have used nuclear deterrence to keep the peace. And I don't believe that any president should make any blanket statements with respect to the use or non-use of nuclear weapons."
Joe Biden, another Democratic rival, described Mr Obama as naive, while Chris Dodd, who has only an outside chance of securing the nomination, said he was inconsistent.”

"I understand that President Musharraf has his own challenges," Obama said. "But let me make this clear. There are terrorists holed up in those mountains who murdered 3,000 Americans. They are plotting to strike again. ... If we have actionable intelligence about high-value terrorist targets and President Musharraf will not act, we will."

****** Clinton said in a radio interview later in the day that she also would not hesitate to attack Al Qaeda targets on Pakistani territory.

"If we had actionable intelligence that Osama bin Laden or other high-value targets were in Pakistan I would ensure that they were targeted and killed or captured. And that will be my highest priority because they pose the highest threat to America," Clinton told American Urban Radio Networks. ******
