The producers of the horror thriller "Shelter" have fired a casting director who put out what they say was an insensitive casting call for extras to appear in a scene set in West Virginia.

The casting call from Donna Belajac Casting of Pittsburgh prompted an outcry from Governor Manchin and others. They said it stereotypes West Virginians as inbred and carnival sideshows.

"Shelter" producers Emilio Diez Barroso and Darlene Caamano Loquet say the movie isn't set in West Virginia and the state won't even be mentioned.

I notice one or two Liberals state the obvious bigotry shown, but the majority demonstrate bigotry is OK, as long as it is directed at a group Liberals deem it is OK to bigoted about.

Don't think so? I challenge you Liberals to say the comments would take the same stance if the title and casting would have been presented as, "Julianne Moore Movie Casts For Gay Movie, Seeks Wimpy, Limp-wristed, High-pitched Sissy Voiced Males."

Many people of West Virginia are "the working poor" that have been hit harder than some places from a Bush economy and trade agreements that have taken steel, glass, and mining jobs elsewhere. Hollywood is reinforcing the prejudice of a region that doesn"t need to be kicked down some more.

ignoring all the stereotypes.... the most 'inbred' (genetically damaged) populations in the US usually center around religion.....

Various Jewish sects have serious issues with genetic diseases, as do Amish and Mennonite groups..... these groups 'stay within their own' for religious reasons and have paid a heavy price for doing so

ANY group without an influx of outside genetics eventually ends up with problems..... I expect if left alone, Pitcairn Island would be a real disaster in a few more generations...

At the opposite extreme, truly unusual 'hybrids' can have a real problem finding genetic matches when it comes to bone marrow or other types of transplants. A Jamaican-Japanese is going to have a pretty unusual combination of genes at work. Something like this came up with a ball player's daughter needing a bone marrow transplant for leukemia.... no matches available.
