Whoopi Oscar
One day after Whoopi Goldberg got visibly emotional over being excluded from an Oscar montage of greatest moments, the show's producer has apologized:

[It] was "an absolute oversight," the award show's producer tells PEOPLE.

"No harm was intended, and I feel very, very badly that she was left out," Gil Cates said Tuesday. "I'm going to call her and tell her that."

Although described as a montage of hosts, the piece shown at Sunday night's telecast on ABC was actually "supposed to be a montage of 80 exciting moments of the Academy Awards" culled from hundreds of hours of footage, says Cates. "Basically, that was not a montage about hosts."

Watch the disappointment:

She didn't get emotional about being snubbed.

She welled-up because she was touched that her fellow panelists on the show were so adamant that she should have been included in the montage.

Her "African Queen" moment was the funniest thing on an Oscars program in the last thirty years. End of story.

Jeezus, we're reduced to reading about bitchy hollywood egos that didn't get stroked enough on Hollywoods biggest ego stroking night of nights?

Who cares? Whoopi Goldberg couldn't carry Billy Crystals or Johnny Carson's jock.

whoopi really isn't that good an actress or comedian, it should come as no suprise that she was excluded.

Cates should've kept his mouth shut. To suggest that it was an "absolute oversight" not to include Whoopi in the montage is b.s. - it's not like she just hosted one time - she's hosted four times. That's a lot of Whoopi footage to sift through and accidentally "oversee". Crapola.

I thought Whoopi showed a lot of class by how she responded on the 'View' to the whole ordeal. A number of articles have mentioned how disappointed she was; I didn't see it when I watched the show, nor have I seen it in the replays. Hurt, possibly, but I didn't see an influx of emotions.

Too bad that they left her out. I loved her 'Elizabeth' costume.

They forgot Brad Renfro during the Memorial sequence as well.

The View should be registered as a PAC for Clinton. They have been echoing her talking points in the same way FOX has been an extension of the Bush White House.

Behar's the worst, and all her "facts" are distorted.

How sad that some viewers will actually think that these women are well-informed and allow them to influence their vote.

Maybe the writers should have stayed out on strike.

Some perspective, folks: imagine if EVERYONE who felt that they were under-recognized at the Oscars, Grammys, etc. responded this way?

We wouldn't hear the end of it.

Whoopi's reaction is no different than if one of the nominees felt personally injured/slighted for not winning an award...

It's an award ceremony! It's conducted by humans! People will be left out. There will be disputable decisions. Didn't we all learn somewhere along the line NOT to take it personally, to be humble, good sports in these situations?

Give me a break.

Those defending her here, simply because they like her (I do too) are simply not maintaining perspective about the event and the written and unwritten rules of participation that make it remotely bearable...

Is it all better now, Whoopi?

Imagine if you were not on The View's panel, you

would have been home alone crying over nothing.

When you go into The Void people forget your existence, let alone relevance. Fox Light for chicks.

whoopi is just parroting the confused thinking of 'her' candidate, Hillary, to wit; I deserve it, I've been good before, what is wrong with you decision makers.?

Whoopi was ever so much better than John Stewart as host of the Oscars. He wasn't even doing a good impression of himself being bad: He was just plain bad. I was so disappointed. The show was unimaginatively scripted, and yet no one varied from the script. Unbelievable. Bad theatre all the way around.

Whoopi is not ugly, rude, or bad. Even if the writers were on strike the planners were not, and they did a really poor job of it. The insult to Whoopi is an insult to all of us who watched.

Whoopie made the best ad lib when she hosted. She said

"oh, look over there, a producer is with a woman who is actually his own age."

I told that to my daughter after she noticed all the old guys with young chicks at Sunday's Academy Awards. She thought the remark was brilliant.

Mavin you expressed my thoughts perfectly, I thought Stewart was the absolute worst choice ever for a host on the Oscars. I like him as a pundit on his show, but he had no place in hosting the Oscars. Whoopi was one of the best, although Ellen did a great job too.
My wife, who does not follow Stewart on CC said, "He's just a smart ass!" and left the room after one of his first cracks.
The Academy Awards are about optimism for the art of film, not a place for an evening of Stewart downers.

Why are there so many nasty comments? What did Whoopie do to any of you? It's so easy to attack women, I mean, it's why dogs lick their balls, because they can. Sure, there were some normal decades (that I grew up in) where women were human beings,..but now in the 21st century, women are targets.

Please don't feign disgust or surprise as to why there are so few roles models for women, why only the paris hiltons, britneys and lindsey lohan's of the world make it to the top of famedom. It's because it's what you demand. Women must be "hot" and non-threatening, and party girls. They shouldn't want good jobs, educations or careers. These are the kinds of women you breed, and then you criticize what you've created. Any other smart, funny, successful woman is attacked and ridiculed.

I wonder the same thing about the nasty comments. Whoopi has entertained, been funny, been appropriate, been serious and been insulted. Does anyone remember the Disney contract that forced here to play ridiculous roles? I can't remember what they were, but she suffered the humiliation and honored her contract.

So the Hillary haters on this blog have just transferred their Obama lift everyone up spirit by trashing a black woman? Black and female--don't hold back, folks. I was for Obama for a while until I started reading the blogs on the HuffPo. The frequent fliers here are not going to change the conversation for the better in this country. They're going to piss off middle America and hand the momentum back to the conservatives in 4-8 years. I'm warning you....

Marcain, your remark about this "butt ugly woman" tells us much more about you than it tells us about Whoopi....

I don't know, I think Whoopi appearing as Queen Elizabeth I was pretty damn memorable, by a host or otherwise.
