Republicans abandoned their long-time tactic of thwarting Democratic attempts to hold up or down votes on withdrawing combat troops from Iraq today in the Senate.

Instead, Senate Republicans joined their Democratic counterparts this afternoon to consider a proposal by Democrat Russ Feingold and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid that would immediately begin to withdraw combat troops from Iraq and begin to cut funding for the war.

What improvements in Iraq. One still cannot go shopping without the fear of being blown up.
All those children who lost their parents and the sad state of supporting them when there is nothing to be had. Just what do you call improvement. Get the heck out of there so the
country can fall on its feet again, of coures, that would mean to leave the oil to the Iraqis so they have something to bring in the money needed to rebuilt what we have destroyed.
By the way, the US is also a casualty of war in this. Just look around and see what happened to our economy, ergo people!

The Democrats can end the funding for the war by not allowing a funding bill to come to the floor for a vote. If there is no bill specifically including war funding, funding ends on a specific date and the war ends. Democrats choose to repeatedly write, introduce, sponsor, pass through committee, bring to the floor for votes and pass Iraq war funding bill after Iraq war funding bill. If the Democrats don't sponsor a funding bill there can be no filibuster and no veto and the funding ends based on the previous bill.

The vote will fail, just like all the others or Bush will veto it. BTW moderators. Why was the post closed on Senator Byrd. He has served proudly for many decades and I wanted to show my condolences. I suffer from severe back pain and it is no joking matter. Please open the comments.

Bush and co. have bankrupted this nation. Refused to produce missing emails and simply do whatever they bloody well want to do without any real resistance from congress. I love it that Feingold is pushing the vote to get our children home from Iraq. But, I do not think Cheney, Bush, et al will desist until they have gotten every penny possible for their cohort war profiteering war mongers.

The prediction is Gasoline at four dollars a gallon by memorial day and we all know it only goes up from there. This sux. Bush should be charged for the trillions of dollars that he grand larsened out of our treasury let alone all the people he murdered in our military and the Iraqi public. It is high time that we stop letting these politicos and the main stream media dictate our reality to us and start realizing our own.

Russ Feingold is a joke. He arranges these stupid votes, debates, etc. every once in a while to prove his anti-war bona fides. And people fall for it..."we love you, Russ"

Hey Russ, if you really want to get the troops out of Iraq, how about doing something meaningful? Your tapdance is getting old.

What's meaningful?
Spending billions and billions more on Iraq, while Afganistan and Pakistan are the real problem?

Bush is an idiot and has sold out this country to oil and defense industries and has just flat lost and given away billions and billions of dollars.

Now we're just gonna stabilize Iraq with concrete and a force of over three hundred thousand people, including public and private contractors? Who's paying? Dumbfuck.

We don't have any money, we've got debt held by China and Middle East Oil money. Do we want to be More beholden to these people? Personally, I'd rather take my chances with the "terrorists" - whoever they may be today.

Iraq can settle it's own scores without us trying to have huge embassys there and without our oil companies being allocated certain percentages of Iraq oil.

Russ Feingold bringing this issue to the fore when it's being "forgotten" by the media is doing something. It's a huge issue and republicans are just happy to let things continue and drive this country into bankruptcy. We have "progress" in Iraq because Sadar (sp?) has held back his people. He can unlease them at will, and all our "progress" will be gone. He's stated he'll hold off till August. This tells me that Iraq is already in control of itself by its own people. Let them work it out. They've seen they can do it.

The only reason Bush wants to stay in Iraq is to maintain control of that country. It makes Isreal and the oil companies happy.

We need to embrace conservation, alternative renewable sources of energy - not food crops -, and we must become energy independent - NOW!

Get out of Iraq now! Stop using oil! Make America strong.

Call your Senators and tell them to support Feingold's resolution!

Kabuki-like, ne?

The R's are all over this like a cheap suit. Let the Dems rally the McNuts supporters by giving those who believe the surge is proof that we can win Iraq (no, don't bother trying to define "win" nor complain that Al Quaieda was in Afghanistan which we admit we are losing). They are many and they vote.

Oh, I just have to let you in on a secret too:

Don't get your hopes up. All this dog and pony show is just for us, the PEOPLE! They will give in since we have but one party! They are making too much money off this war and the oil,
the hedge funds and we, the PEOPLE, stay screwed. How sad is our Democracy and we have the nerve to point fingers at others, who actually have a thing or two to show us.

You would think that after the housing crisis they would wise up and recognize that we are all in this together and that their ill gotten gains will come back to haunt them, their children and their grandchildren, to the tenth generation.

Kinda makes me think David Brin is right about the blackmail.

I'm sure that some of them actually believe they are doing the right thing..... well, not really.

EVERY democrat in CONgress that votes against withdrawal, has likely been BOUGHT by industry and lobbyists, and needs to be removed from office. Also, don't be quick to believe those are ALL of the of the 'one-party' members in the dems, from just one vote. Some will even lurk and lurk, seem OK for awhile, but finally then stab OUR country in the back with an attorney general that protects war criminals and a criminal preznutz.

VOTERS inform yourselves, VERY LITTLE in politics is 'always' black or white. And, most of human existence is one shade, or another, of gray.
