The Washington Times has a major report set to run in Wednesday's paper highlighting the extent of "collateral damage" to Iraqi civilians.

"The Pentagon has paid $42.4 million to Iraqis who lost innocent family members or property to U.S. or allied military action since the beginning of 2005," Times reporter Sharon Behn will report, "but says it keeps no comprehensive records of how the money was spent."

More: "The so-called 'condolence' payments are capped at $2,500 for a loss of life and $1,500 for a loss of property. Based on those figures, the payments could account for as many as 16,960 deaths, or 42,400 homes destroyed, but the Pentagon says it would take 'months' to break down the payments into such categories."

Check back tomorrow for the full story from the Times.

Iraqi invasion was unnecessary.

Still, that $42 million more than foreign Jihadists paid for murdered Iraqis.

Millions of Iraqis dead, displaced, homeless, ill thanks to the USUK. Every fourth child in Iraq today suffering from malnutrition (this was NOT the case under Saddam.) And the Iraqi victims get a few lousy worthless million dollars in compensation? How shameful. And just to put this in perspective, 15 years ago, when the dollar was still worth a little, ONE American woman got a jury award of 2.7 million dollars because the coffee she spilled on herself at McDonalds was too hot.

The Russian mafia has a term that loosely translates to "shut-up money"...

So the US Military paid $42 Million (courtesy of the US taxpayers of course!) to just some of the innocent people they murdred in Iraq - but this is only a very small drop in the bucket when you compare the 4 $Billion_plus dollars the U.S. gives to Israel every year. Also seeing that Israel was in large part the main instigator, along with the Bush Regime,of the Iraq and every other middle east war,$42 million to their victims is indeed a war monger's type of joke!

Less than 3,000 civilian killed in the 9/11 attacks compared to almost 17,000 civilians killed in this war. Do any of you rabid right fanatics think that any of those 17,000 have relatives, and do you think that most of those relatives are going to be our friends or our enemies? Now tell me again how this ill-concieved and mis-managed war has made us safer.

lolll...a while ago I said that we'd have been far better off to pay Bush and his backers $2 trillion in cold hard cash to stay the hell out of American politics.

I can't speak for all Americans, but personally if being violated is impossible to avoid, I'd rather be blackmailed than raped and murdered.

At worst, monetarily we'd have broken even based upon the present and projected future costs of PNAC's war, and we would have saved at least 20,000 human lives and tens or even hundreds of thousands of wounded, too.

But PNAC would never have gone for it - the powers behind that organization actually place more value on garrisoning the Middle East than they do on Bush's carrot - money.

Instead of paying off the bush family in all those dollars [2 Trillion] a few cents worth of lead apiece would be a much better solution and a lasting one too.
