Karl Rove: Don't "Hussein" Obama

The Atlantic:

No less an authority figure than Karl Rove has warned Republican operatives from demagoguing Barack Obama's middle name.

At a closed door meeting of GOP state executive directors in late January, Rove said the safest way to refer to Obama would be to use his honorific, "Sen. Obama."

Maybe Cheri Jacobs is right. Let Barack address his name, he has nothing to be ashamed of, he will probably do it anyway.

Look if the ignorants in the GOP want to campaign on Hussein let them. Juan Cole's piece illuminates how foolish that line of attack is. They are trying to tie some guilt by name association smear that eventually even the MSM will shut down. They let it play out now becuase it's a bit of a hype.

Let the bigots be bigots, that is just going to fire up our base more.

My suggestion to ALL Obama supporter.­..change your middle name to HUSSEIN until the right and others stop using it as a tool for fear, intimidation and ignorance. Once you take that power away from them, it becomes a non-issue.

Caught some talking head this AM going on about how Obama will be villified by the GOP as "liberal"--most liberal voting record etc--and that will be really hard to defend.

Which got me to thinking, these guys just don't get it. The term "conservative", thanks largely to Karl "permanent majority" Rove is starting to take on the negative connotations that used to cling to "liberal". I can envision TV ads where McCain proclaims his conservatism, then Bush, then McCain, then Bush. Super at end: "Two terms of conservatism. How's that working out for ya?"
