During a White House news conference Thursday morning, President Bush said the country is not headed into a recession, noting that the government has acted "robustly." His view of the economy, however, is far more chipper than that of many economists, who fear the country is entering a recession (or may even already be in one. In fact, when asked by a reporter about what advice he'd given an average American, who is faced by the prospect of $4 gallon gas, the President responded: "That's interesting. I hadn't heard that. ... I know it's high now." Watch the video from MSNBC:
Bush is asked about predictions of $4 gas during his press conference and he says he hasn't heard anything about predictions of $4 gas. http://link.brightcove.com/services/link/bcpid1435509410http://www.brightcove.com/channel.jsp?channel=1178199204

It's the mantra of the Bush administration: "Who knew?" Who knew terrorists would attack us with airplanes? Who knew there would be an insurgency? Who knew the levees would be breached? Who knew gas prices were approaching $4.00 a gallon? Who knew?

That's consistent: Bush 41 didn't know how much a loaf of bread costs.

I've been saying all along that the problem with George W. Bush is that he has no concept of money, having been raised as a spoiled little rich kid. The result is he actually believes that with the $600 he's going to "give" you (he'll figure out a way to pick your pocket later) you can pay your mortgage and your children's tuition and fill you gas tank -for the rest of 2008!

remember that George Sr. was also surprised when he saw the talking and beeping cash registers at grocery stores, years after they appeared.

These people are blue bloods who shouldn't be bothered by the masses - as they say, "Let them eat cake."

Just wait until you're paying $5 for a can of Campbells soup thanks to Bushs Bio-Fuel push?

Do you think market speculators won't manipulate grain prices from second-one?? Really????

They want us *enslaved or dead* - that's the choice they offer!

It would tickle these scumbags pink to see us starving and without medicine, the "Natural Order"

How much more are you going to take from the "Free Marketers"?

Bush On $4 Gas: "I Hadn't Heard That":

..but now that he has, I'm sure him, Cheney, Scalia, Roberts, Rummey, Murdoch and Nixons' ghost will have plenty to circle-jerk over.

"Isn't class-war *awesome*, guys??? Heh-heh-heh! Hey Rummy, tell me again about how you pushed Aspartame past the FDA!...wait, wait!...JR, ya gotta here this!..."

So, ole Bushie "hadn't heard" about the potential 4 dollar a gallon gas price, huh? Does that really surprise anyone?
This is a guy who apparently didn't hear the warnings from Richard Clarke about Al Queda's "determination to strike in the US".
He obviously "hadn't heard" from most in the intelligence community that Saddam Hussein had absolutely NO ties to Al Queda and Osama Bin laden.
He must not have heard that "Brownie" was NOT doing a "heckuva job" in New Orleans after Katrina hit.
Even after many of the so-called Iraqi "sources" who were claiming Saddam had stockpiles of WMD's were debunked. And even after most of the inspectors claimed that Saddam had destroyed his weapons, ole Bushie still went to war. He must not have "heard" these pieces of information.

I wonder if the people who voted for this buffoon in 2000 and 2004 have "heard" that their vote is the reason why our country is in the shape its in.

THE PRICE OF GAS IN AMERICA

As the price of gas soars to 4 bucks a gallon it is very interesting to take a look around your town to see what other people are driving. THE GOOD NEWS - I see more and more of those tiny little ultra compact cars on the road (I smile every time I see one). They seem to be approaching 50 percent of the traffic. I think the medium sized traditional sedan and mini vans are becoming a thing of the past. THE BAD NEWS - I see more and more of those super sized 4x4 luxury pickup trucks (the truck almost looks like a pit bull on steroids) and the worst part is that apparently the trucks aren’t big enough as they come from the factory because they are putting lift kits and giant tires so that they can tower over the other pickup trucks. And then they add all those aftermarket truck accessories like huge road warrior bumpers and the latest trend is those big vertical smoke stacks right behind the cab to make the truck look and sound like a big semi-truck. Maybe when the price of gas gets past 5 bucks/gal the trend will be to go all the way and buy a full fledged Peterbilt, Kenworth, or Freightliner semi truck. I don’t know what these people do for a living, but it must pay well if they can afford to fill up their big 40 gallon tanks. I guess I shouldn’t complain, because the more they spend on gas the more they pay in gas taxes, which in turn goes to fix the streets and highways. But wait, don’t big pickup trucks tear up the highways faster? GANGSTER MOBILES – And what about those Gansta Mobiles? I’ve seen a surge of gangster/pimp mobiles. A typical gangster mobile would be a Cadillac Escalade, Lincoln Navigator, or Chrysler 300 with black tinted windows and a 2 million watt, ground thumping, stereo system. CONCLUSION - I think the smart people and poor people are flocking to compact cars while the rest are looking for luxury, power, social status, a chick magnet, and/or enormous size.

WHAT DO PEOPLE DRIVE IN YOUR TOWN?

When I said “pit bull on steroids” I was referring to any of those Dodge full sized 4x4 pickup trucks. They remind me of a bull dog with all those rounded corners. On the other hand, the high riding Ford Super-Duty reminds me more of a giant buck deer riding high and the rear view mirrors are the antlers (deer horns). I saw a big high riding super duty the other day with a front license plate that read, “I EAT MINI COOPERS”. I guess he looks down upon and ridicules all the wimpy people he sees on the road driving little tiny economy cars until he drives past a gas station, which brings back the painful memory of seeing the gas pump displaying $156.85 on its digital display.

Free, can you make up your mind, first you say 50% of cars you see now are small and then say you are seeing more and more Gangster mobiles. Does a lift kit on a truck or raised exhaust change the mileage or cause more road damage?

In fact, a lift kit on a truck makes more wind resistance and lowers gas mileage. Additionally, those big ole knobby tires are heavy. More weight, less milage.

I imagine the lift kit itself is pretty heavy, too.

What I've seen here in Texas is that a lot of those trucks are for sale on the side of the road. There are bunches more little cars and tiny cars. I drive a tiny Toyota Yaris. 40 mpg
city/highway.

But look at it this way, the value of the dollar is so low, four dollars isn't what it used to be. Heh-heh...

Give W a break, when was the last time he bought gas? He'e either been at the governor's mansion in Austin or the whitehouse since 94, when gas was going for about $1.00 a gallon. That's $20 to fill up back then versus $60+ now. My, things sure have changed since Lil Geo lived in the real world!!!

Yeah right. Dumbya is hungover half the time at his press conferences. He is the epitome of a phony. A phony non-drinker. A phony cowboy. A phony tough guy. A phony man of God. A PHONY President. Maybe he didn't hear this as well, as the MSM seems to be sleeping on this story...
