WASHINGTON — In a remarkable financial recovery, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton raised $35 million in February even as Democratic rival Barack Obama was outspending her in key March 4 battlegrounds.

His financial superiority has been evident in the primary states of Texas and Ohio, which vote Tuesday and where he has purchased $7.5 million in advertising to her $4.6 million, targeting early voters, young voters and voters in regions with concentrations of delegates.

Clinton's fundraising more than doubled her January fundraising, when she collected $14 million to Obama's $36 million. Clinton has lost 11 straight contests since Super Tuesday on Feb. 5 and her ability to raise money was all the more notable coming in the midst of defeat.

"It was incredibly gratifying to see people come forth with this vote of confidence in me," Clinton told reporters in Hanging Rock, Ohio. "Obviously this is a tremendous benefit to my campaign."

But Obama has been raising money at an even greater rate and spending it, too. Some estimates place his February fundraising at more than $50 million _ which would be about half of what he raised in all of 2007. Obama spokesman Bill Burton would not divulge a total but said: "We've raised considerably more than" Clinton.

Obama's campaign had spent $2.4 million on ads in Ohio as of Tuesday, to her $1.3 million, according to TNS Media Intelligence/Campaign Media Analysis Group, which tracks political ads. Clinton spent $3.3 million in Texas; Obama spent $5.1 million, the firm's figures show.

Clinton began running a new ad in Ohio Thursday, with Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland promoting her as a "fighter." "I think she's a person who has devoted her life to caring about other people, making sure that America works for everyone, not just the privileged few," Strickland says in the ad.

Obama is targeting younger audiences in his ads, buying expensive prime time spots on programs such as "American Idol" and evening sitcoms. On Tuesday, for instance, Obama bought 38 spots on "American Idol" broadcasts in Ohio and Texas, and in the two other March 4 primary states _ Rhode Island and Vermont. Clinton bought only six spots on the show in relatively small markets.

"She's where most of the traditional political buying is," said Evan Tracey, an ad analyst and president of TNS Media. "He is in the choice real estate _ it's the luxury end of political buying."

Obama also bought ad time on such Tuesday night programs as "Big Brother," "The Biggest Loser," and "Jericho," a CBS series with a devoted fan base.

Obama also was getting help from labor unions, even though in the past he has criticized rivals who received help from outside groups.

The Service Employees International Union began spending $1.4 million on ads supporting Obama in Ohio and Texas. The United Food and Commercial Workers International Union was spending nearly $200,000 on ads in Ohio. What's more, the SEIU was spending a total of about $1.4 million supporting Obama through phone banks and door-to-door canvassing in Texas and Ohio.

"We are facing a real wall of money from the Barack Obama campaign," senior Clinton adviser Harold Ickes acknowledged during a call with fundraisers Thursday. "But based on everything we know today, we are confident we have very strong operations there."

Former President Clinton, campaigning for his wife at Bryant University in Smithfield, R.I., said: "If she can win a big victory here in Rhode Island, win in Ohio, win in Texas, she'll be on her way to the White House."

He also said: "We've had a great life. She's going to be fine regardless."

Clinton entered February with $9 million cash on hand for the primaries and about $7.5 million in debts. Obama had $18 million for the primary and $1.1 million in debts.

If both candidates raise more than $35 million each this time, that would make February an astounding fundraising month for the Democrats. At that rate, both candidates would break records for contestants in a primary fight.

Obama told reporters on his campaign plane, "I have no idea how much money we've raised, but we've been paying our bills. Right now, I believe we're doing very good."

In their call to fundraisers, Clinton's advisers announced that the campaign had raised the money from 300,000 donors, including 200,000 new contributors, most of them donating through the Internet. Aides said almost all the money was for the primary election.

"We have resources to play in big states coming up: Texas, Ohio, Rhode Island, Vermont and states beyond," campaign Chairman Terry McAuliffe said.

Clinton said reports of her relatively weak fundraising in January and her decision to lend the campaign $5 million started a wave.

"People want this campaign to go on," she said. "It just set off a chain reaction around the country. People start paying attention at different points in a campaign. Now people are engaged."

But some Democrats wondered whether the additional money was too late and not enough to match Obama.

"The Clinton campaign clearly has much more money than they had before, but they are still being dramatically outspent by Obama," said Simon Rosenberg, head of the New Democratic Network, a think tank. "And things don't seem to be trending their way and they don't have a lot of tools to deal with it anymore."

This '35 million in February' is just so much spin. I hate Hillary. I hate the way she operates---like a gangster.

Hillary is ALL HAT AND NO CATTLE. I truly don't believe these numbers either. Why did she have to loan her campaign 5 Million. Where is her money coming from? Obama's money is coming from the people---90% of it . I want to see proof that she has raised this amount and not in the form of loan from herself or her friends. Give me a break Hillary...get out of here with these lies!

I also agree that she behaves like a gangster---what was all of that "Meet Me In Texas".."Meet Me In Ohio" crap? He meets her there and she does nothing. In fact, he trumps her in both places and is eating up her 'lead' every day in both places. She sounded like a streetfighter from the trailerpark or stripclub. What an embarrassment to herself!

My Bad - That post above was my message to Rep. Jack Kingston. Sorry!

This is what I think about HRC's fundraising #'s:

I think ALL HRC's numbers are BULL.

Just like the 1st quarter of 2007 where they claimed victory over Obama's figure by a few mil and then months they had to "correct" the total DOWN, due to a "bookkeeping" error.

I suspect these numbers, whether 24 or 35, are BULL and meant more to keep her big contributors and super-delegates in line.

Even if we believe they've been racking in 1,000,000 a day. That's 29 million for the month, not 35.

I still think THAT'S bull or these some detail they are leaving out, like... ANOTHER LOAN.

$35 million? That's because:

1. HRC and WJC probably lent another $5 million to the campaign
2. Mark Penn most likely decided not to take his $10 million right now
3. Mandy Grunwald probably decided to postpone her $700,000
5. The campaign no longer have to pay Patti Solis Doyle's salary
4. Maggie Williams probably has agreed to work for free

Add that up, and HRC more likely raised $18 million - $19 million for February.

The $35 million is money raised, not money left after subtracting expenditures. That post made no sense.

The point of my post was that HRC's campaign most likely has added in the savings of Penn's $10 million, Mandy's $700,000, the savings of Patti's salary and Maggie's working for free, along with HRC and WJC's Feburary likely "loan" to the campaign, and that the campaign is counting the above in their "raised" amount in order to get their February "raised" amount up to the $35 million.

My idea: demystify the words by rendering them harmless. Be proactive. We say "there's nothing wrong with the name Hussein (means handsome in Arabic) but there is something wrong with race baiting and fear mongering in a political campaign." I love the name Hussein it's as common as "Dave" or "Bob" Barack Bob Obama ;)

Do you think HRC will still play victim after people continue to send in their hard earned money to support her?

How much of those Hillary contribution were during the first half of the month before she lost 11 straight elections by very large margins (33% avg)?

That's a good question. I know they raised a lot right after announcing the loan. I'd be curious to see how much they have raised in the last couple weeks. Probably still a decent amount. She may be losing but she has a fair number of passionate supporters.

I assume most of Hillary's contributos come from the mega corporations Washington lobbyist interests that have financed her campaign all along? If that's the case, then how will she reward their loyalty? Will the insurance companies get a deluge of customers thanks to Hillary's mandate that all Americans purchase health insurance or have their salaries garnished? If I were the insurance companies, I would be heavily contributing to her campaign too.

Oh stop with the cynicism. Clinton has been raising tons of money from people like me who have been donating on a daily/weekly basis. I have been a Hillary fan long before she declared her candidacy, but I never donated $$ until February when I realized what was at stake. I've only made 1 contribution in my life before Feb 08 and that was $100 to John Kerry in the GE, but this month alone I have been giving hundreds of $$ to Hillary online...I'm a college student so I don't really have much, but I've decided to not spend any money on frivolous things such as going out on the weekends and I have been giving all my $$ to Hillary. This week alone, I've been giving on a daily basis...every time I read another negative article on Hillary, I realize how much is at stake and I donate more. The media wants to bury Clinton and not give her a voice, but her supporters aren't buying the BS of the MSM. Remember it was the MSM that rallied behind the Iraq war call and no one asked tough questions...now they want to drown out Hillary's message while refusing to take a hard look at Obama.

Any statement from the Clinton campaign is probably a lie. How much for the general and how much for the primary. Has Billary and Slick Willie donated another 10 million. Have to wait till March 20 for the truth about this. Probably about the same time that we get Billary's tax return. HaHa. Obama will probably raise over 50 so what. If she is getting outspent 4 to1 as Mandy Grunwald claims then this is obviously another Billary lie. They cant even afford to rent Slick Willie an arena or hall and he is giving his speeches on the back of pickup trucks.

Canada PM Says Nafta "Solid" Deal,Doubts It Will Be Reopened

15:00 EST Thursday, February 28, 2008

OTTAWA (Dow Jones)--Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper Thursday said Nafta is a "solid agreement" and he doubts a future U.S. President would want to reopen the deal.
But if that were to happen, then Canada would also have some matters of its own to raise, Harper said in Parliament.
U.S. Democratic Party candidates Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama said this week that if they become president, they would pull out of the North American Free Trade Agreement if it's not renegotiated.
"I think the Nafta agreement is a solid agreement for both of our countries," Harper said during Question Period in the House of Commons.
"I would caution about jumping to a conclusion about what a future (U.S.) president may do. If a future president actually did want to open up Nafta, Mr. Speaker, which I highly doubt, then Canada would obviously have some things we would want to discuss as well," he added.

""I think the Nafta agreement is a solid agreement for both of our countries," Harper said.

No credibility at all since this comment originates from Canada's Bush wannabe. It's not just Ohio that has lost an enormous number of jobs because of NAFTA. Some people seem to be very surprised that the economy is quicksand now that the American "middle class" has been weakened to the brink of destruction. NAFTA reflects the goals of cold-blooded, greedy corporations. We are now a nation with vast numbers of under- or unemployed people...who watch the stock market continue to rise - proof that the value of the stock market does not reflect the quality of life of the American People. Corporatists have charted the path of destruction for this nation and its people...and it is working. Just ask the people with college degrees who are forced to accept $10 an hour jobs to survive.

NAFTA is no where near as important in this election as it is made out to be. On All Things Considered the other day there was a discussion with Ned Hill - economist"

Are Obama and Clinton right? Has NAFTA hurt Ohio's economy?

"Oh, absolutely not," says Ned Hill, economic development professor at Cleveland State University. "NAFTA is more political theater than an economic event."

Hill says Ohio is suffering economically; unemployment is high.

"But that is not due to NAFTA," he says. "That is because of the failed strategy of three companies" — General Motors, Ford and Chrysler.

Well here's a FACT. Obama is a liar! ALL of Canada knows it. THE REST OF THE world now know it. Only the American public is being kept in the dark.

Watch the Obama cult, start to praise NAFTA now that the Canadian News broadcast his behind the scenes message to Canada that anything he says at the debate is pure 'Political rhetoric' to get the 'lobsters in the pot' so to speak.

Go to: ctvnews.com see last night's broadcast. He's become a laughing stock - not to be trusted. Certainly not by countries he wants to trade with. if he can lie that easily and often to the American people before he's elected... Well, he has no credibility whatsoever!

The truth is coming out and it will be gushing out all over the place soon. He's told too many stories and even American media can't keep it hidden much longer.

Beware folks. The truth always comes back to bite one in the ass.

I am not a corporation either - just a retired nurse on a limited income, a daughter with met. breast cancer that I have been helping, and another ill daughter i have been supporting.
It is not easy but I have also given humdreds to Hillary.
So maybe her campaign workers have not been super efficient, but that's not HRC 's fault.
I will continue to support her. I do not quit when the going gets tough and Hillary will never quit when the going is rough.
I am not a rat that jumps off the ship when the waters become rapid and treacherous. Many of us will stay the course with the only candidate we trust to get us to the safe shore of the future.
