Dobbs Blankfein

On Tuesday, Lou Dobbs challenged Lloyd Blankfein, the CEO of Goldman Sachs, to a fight while on the air. After discussing a new Economy.com report that 8.8 million American homeowners are now "underwater," Dobbs took offense at Blankfein's dismissal of his earlier claim that the economy was tanking.

Specifically, he noted:

Perhaps Lloyd would like to come on here and show me the error of my ways and educate me perhaps from his lofty Wall Street perch on how millions of Americans are faring and what their prospects are. Lloyd, you certainly -- I would love to have you do it. I would love to have you come on and talk to my face, not to my back, partner. I know it's not the way you do it on Wall Street there, hot shot, but try it here. Come on down. Open invitation.

I watch Lou Dobbs as much as I can. Finally somebody who's not afraid to shove the corporate inspired smarmy b.s. line about being a greater country (because of amnesty). The people of New Orleans have been driven out of their homes, 1,000,000,000+ probably, innocent Iraqi's have been killed for one spoiled frat brats' egotistical enjoyment (and the counting enjoyment of all his contractor buddies), when there hasn't been an honest investigation of 9/11 (not to mention the JFK public murder) because the media is a willing co-conspirator, I think it's highly hypocritical of those involved to be screaming about giving amnesty to illegals.Illegal support groups notwithstanding.

Take care of your own first and that's Lou Dobbs' position. Hey, Obama - what about the sub-prime mortgage crisis? How many (90,000+) troops you leaving in Iraq to "take care of the diplomats".

I like Lou Dobbs when he talks about taking on corporate thugs, but goes overboard with illegal immigrants issues( I hate the word illegal aliens---- nobody is an alien from outer space). I think any country has the right to defend it's borders, and to allow people who think will benefit their country. There are lots of people who don't know how bigotted, and racist ,Mexico's laws are against legal immigrants/citizens. Also, lot's people are talking about how free trade has hit their towns/states hard, what they don't know is that how the rest of the world and it's people have been ravaged by "free trade" because of the dumping of US/European goods and services for decades, which has benefitted the people of United States/Europe economically. But, only after long struggle have the rest of the nations in this world, are seeing benefits from free trade, ofcourse some parts of this trade deal is hurting jobs here in the US/Europe. Again, people have to know history, and they will know what has been happening in this world. It's a tragedy that most Americans don't really know the entire history of US's involvement with the world, and that proves costly to them and the rest of the world.

Alien just means from somewhere else, or different. It's not a perjorative. And for the sake of briefness, you could just call the illegals, illegals. No one has anything against legal 'aliens'. Just illegals. And, yes, we have a right to make sure all people coming here are doing so legally.

Indeed!!!! Simply put , we can no longer afford the millions of illegals in this country ... and the millions more who will come if we dont put a stop to this insanity !!!!!!

The word "aliens" was in use for foreign people centuries before anyone even dreamed of life on other planets. There's nothing wrong with it.

I am glad that you don't see it in a pejorative way, but, believe me there are lots of people who do. These kinds of techniques have been used since time immemorial, it's about re-inforcing certain mindset in the population, and US (or white people for that matter) are not the only people who do it, Rwanda comes to my mind. Black people killing black people . You might wonder what that has to do with the current issue at hand, if you dig deeper, you will know it's all related..When there is a economic problem in a country, it's always convinient to blame an outsider, again if you go back in history you will find time and again it's happened. It's the problem with capatalism on steroids, not the one we need or think we have.

What's happened to Lou? He slurs his speech and goes off on tirades. He used to sound so level-headed..... something is going on with him.

He's the Howard Beale of our time (from the movie Network).

Remember when he was the darling of corporations, when he had his old business news show for years, worshiping CEOs, just like all the financial mags of the 90's?

Perhaps, just like Howard Beale, a loon, just allowed to do his show so the American public thinks we have someone on "our side".

Howard Beale! Perfect!

I watched Lou the other day for the first time in a long time. What a blowhard!

When did he become such a narrow-minded, pompous windbag?

I haven't always agreed with him, but I didn't think he was just grandstanding before. Now? Definitely.

And, O'Reilly-style, he only read viewer letters like, "Dear Mr. Dobbs, You've inspired me to become an Independent! Thank you for your wonderful show! You're my hero!"

What a joke he's become..

He's really pissed off at the absurd assertion that all is fine despite the severe difficulties many in this nation are faced with. He's angry. People on wall street make millions moving around money, creating nothing. He's exasperated by our government allowing a flood of illegal aliens to suffuse the cities of America, and little or no political will to deal with the problem. Lou feels, despite his income bracket, the pain of middle America.

He gets very passionate about some subjects, I can understand that. And I have to agree
with him a lot. He also addresses the illegal immigrants, which we should address at this
time because our politicians are letting us down for selfish reasons.

I have watched him on closed caption. It is amazing. Much of his rants are composed of words strung together with no real meaning or relevance. His sentence structure sounds okay - sorta - when you listen to him but most of it is gibberish when you read it.

Wait, Dobbs isn't blaming this on our "broken borders?" He must be slipping. Surely every ill in this country, from jaywalking to the falling dollar, is caused by those brown people sneaking in.

Once again, I must plead ignorance as to this issue, but I know that Lou Dobbs is a real prick and if this Goldman CEO fellow was called out by LD on national TV, and could beat the shit out of him, then I fail to see the down side of him doing so.

Sometimes Lou is stunningly correct. It makes for real cognitive dissonance during those other times when he's being a jerk.

Way to go Lou, yes Lou's a windbag when he talks about immigration but taking on Goldman is long over due. Goldman is THE house on Wall Street . They believe themselves untouchable. These guy are the fuel for Dot House. They were chopping up these mortgages and dumping them everywhere. Notice Goldman was "immune to sub prime " (didn't take any loses unlike Citi and Bear anyone else for that matter). Goldman is the leader and everyone is a follower and the leader really waged it's tail the last five years. Now Bush and Paulson(another Goldman Guy) doesn't thinks mortgages relief is a good idea...wonder why. Remember the fictional Gorden Gekko "it's all about bucks kid...the rest is conversation...)

Dobbs appears to be seeking a niche, but loyal, audience.

Olbermann showed that anyone with a message that appeals to a fringe element can make a living somewhere.

Lou Dobbs continually hammers Corporate America's vile anti American ethic. He hammers the Bush Administration for their blatant lack of interest in the well being of 290,000,000 Americans and total capitulation for those 10,000,000 at the top; the Haves and Have mores. Some may find his anti illegal immigrant stance offensive but I would invite them to consider the impact of 12,000,000 people with the same skills they possess willing to do their job for $15,000 a year and no benefits. His ranting against the excesses of Corporate America is in distinct contrast to the politically correct, bland news readers that infest what passed for Media News. If there is one unrelenting blind spot he maintains it is his obsessive jingoistic, Military Industrial view of Foreign Policy. His stance is one taken directly from the extreme Right Wing's Kill a Kommie for Khrist Krusade from the 1950s. We need someone to keep stirring the anti Korporate waters and that seems to be Low Dobbs, warts and all.

olephart,
every day more and more of our fellow citizens realize that Lou's message is not racism....it is about the jobs. Illegals have ruined the building trades. traitorous contractors will pay carpenters $10/hr because of the glut of illegal immigrants......and LEGAL UNION carpenters make $40+/hr.
I understand that not all carpenters are the same, but All Union carpenters are excellent carpenters, not some guy with a hammer and a truck.

Agree one hundred percent. Too many lefties vilify lou for his stance on illegal immigration, seemingly without even knowing what it actually is. Lou's has more guts than most "journalists" in regards to domestic policy. His foreign policy seems to be of the typically American manifest destiny school, but credit where credit is due.

On Monday's show, he spent most of the hour bad-mouthing and marginalizing Obama supporters in Texas. It's hard to recreate the garbage he spewed spinning one negative comment after another.

I felt sorry for Bill Schneider. He was trying to discuss polling results, but clearly Dobbs had a completely different agenda. He didn't listen to anyone.

I think Blankfein should call CNN, hire Dobbs for an hour and make him do weird things on TV.
