Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger is a "power freak" who is also a "bit vain", bandmate Keith Richards said in an interview set to be published Thursday.

Speaking to Uncut magazine in an interview to promote a Martin Scorsese documentary about the band, "Shine A Light", the guitarist also said he would have told his younger self to "lay off" drugs.

"Mick's a maniac. He can't get up in the morning without knowing immediately who he's going to call," the 64-year-old Richards said.

"Meanwhile, I just go 'Thank God I'm awake' and wait for three or four hours before I do anything. He is a power freak and there's nothing we can do about it. I don't want to do anything about it. Let him bugger about. It doesn't make any difference to what we do."

Addressing Jagger's on-stage presence, Richards told the magazine, "Excuse me while I laugh. He's a bit vain, let's put it like that," before adding: "We want a vain bloke up there, don't we? Meanwhile, the band can go to work. Vanity will not carry a band. But a band can carry vanity."

Mick and Keith still know how to keep their names on the front page don't they!

The fact is Keith must realize that no matter how much he perceives Jagger as vain and a power freak that he could never have achieved the status he has without Jagger. Keith has also stayed with the band. That in itself shows he knows very well how exceptional Jagger is.

Shut up, Keith. Mick Jagger pretty much invented the concept of "rock star" while penning some of the better songs of the genre. He doesn't need ANYBODY "carrying" him.
Thought experiment: put Mick with a different group of musicians back in the old days; The Animals, The Kinks, etc. Any of them he would have taken to the same heights as The Stones. Keith, on the other hand....?
Sure he's great, but he owes his megastardom to Sir Michael.

Are you kidding? Mick is nothing without Keith. Not one of Mick's solo efforts comes close to the originality or artistry of Keith's solo output. Keith is John Lennon to Mick's Ringo Starr.

I bet their tour bus stays in the left lane on the interstate with the left turn signal on.

Toooooooooo funny!!!!

Mick was the business guy too. He did a pretty decent job with his band's finances...(but could never have made it without Keith's riffs)

This ain't news. Keef saying Mick is a normal bloke who just goes with the flow would be news.

While many of the other people in the English musical scene at the time attended some sort of art school, Jagger attended the London School of Economics. It seems plausible that his business school background is at least part of what causes him to keep the band performing.

PR Consultant> Seem to be slipping a bit in the polls

Richards: What do we do about it?

Jagger: Publicity stunt. I'll call you an interminable donkey.

Richards: Nahh, you're the superstar. How about I call you bad names.

PR Consultant: It WOULD work better if you look like you're fighting each other.

Richards: Gotta keep our name in the press!

if anyone really understood the dynamics between Mick and Keith-you would know that Mick really admires Keith, what's to be Keith because Keith doesn't give a damn wheres Mick's vanity and control freak behaviors indicates Mick cares what others think.
