"The Daily Show" Reports From "Anti-Hillary HQ" To Explain Press Bias

Huffington Post   First Posted: 03/28/08 03:46 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 01:25 PM ET

Samantha Bee

Last night on "The Daily Show," Samantha Bee satirized the media's grand "plan" to destroy the candidacy of Hillary Clinton. "We're at debate 20, and I think everyone here is a bit disappointed that it took Senator Clinton this long to catch on to our plan," Bee said, reporting from "the media's Anti-Hillary War Room in the Paula Jones Conference Center."

Bee explained to Stewart that Clinton is not being paranoid and that the press is, in fact, "out to get her," referring to two moments from Tuesday night's debate — one in which they accidentally cut to video of Clinton when they introduced it as an unflattering clip of Obama, the other when moderator Brian Williams did not let Clinton speak after Obama, insisting the need to go to commercial and explaining, "Television doesn't stop."

The more i read these blogs, the more i know i won't vote for B.O. It's Hillary or nothing...

Majordude,
Take off the rose colored glasses, only Stevie Wonder can't see the BIAS, in this election. The media has taken low, to a new level, lowwwwwwwwwwwwwww. They hate the Clinton's and will do or say anything to destroy them, and B.O will do anythng to win. He can bring the country together, but he can't bring the Democratic party together. After all is said and done, B.O will loose, and the Republican's will win. No sane person will vote for B.O after all this primary. I'm a Black man and because of the unfairness of the media, i have second thoughts of voting for someone, that the media picked for the Democratic party. It was the media that picked Gore, and Kerry, and they both loss, and so will B.O. No vote here! If he can't get it on his record, then he don't deserve it.
07:23 AM on 03/02/2008
You're right. And if Billary wins the primary, the B.O. spurned supporters won't vote for her as well. The Dems have already shut down. Congratu-freakin'-lations. You know, I was stunned when they didn't win in '04. But this time around it's like watching a train wreck, as it occurs, in incredibly slow motion.

I thought that was funny. Imagine, Jon Stewart IS still funny. So what happened Oscar night? I guess he should have had Samantha Bee with him.

I'm still backing Hillary, but I admit my chances are slim and getting slimmer. I wish my butt was in the same condition.

You realize she constantly interrupts the opposing candidate, as well as the moderators, right? You realize she completely monopolizes airtime (going long over her allotted time) and doesn't realize that TV has rules. Just as print journalism has to work with a budget, space, television has rules. Don’t interpret William’s need to enforce some order as an offense against Clinton.

As a lifelong Democrat, I have read and heard enough from the Obama supporters on this site and
the MSNBC pundits (the Obama Network) to totally turn me off on voting for him in the general election if he is the nominee. Why is the Media so sure that he is the one (to quote Oprah? Do they really think that he can run this country with his lack of experience or are they just afraid of being called racist if they accurately scrutinize him? Is trashing Hillary on a daily basis good for their ratings these days
while they erroneously parse her words and inaccurately defend Obama on every issue. After all, many rightwing pundits have made a successful living demeaning and villifying the Clintons for the past fifteen years. Putting out inaccurate polling information is another problem. Why is Zogby, the famous pollster, and a proud Arab American, so dedicated to electing Obama? Could he possibly be rigging the poll numbers? This all looks a little fuzzy to me. Lets get the true facts out on Obama once and for all. The Media really needs to stop whitewashing Obama and his record and give us some
truthful reporting. Between MSNBC and many of the so-called progressive talk show pundits, the Democratic Party has been divided and probably will be conquered again. Then, we can thank the vicious, hateful commentary of the Obama supporters for another Republican president in the whitehouse.
04:26 PM on 03/01/2008
Why is it so hard for Clinton supporters to acknowledge that their candidate is just too flawed to ignore? Clinton isn't losing support because of some "media conspiracy." The truth is, candidates receive more scrutiny at certain points than others, and anyone who is familiar with trends in journalism understands this. It certainly doesn't help Clinton that she continues to make the most provocative comments about her opponent. "The media," (as if it's a monolith) will focus on the candidate who is making the most noise. Fortunately for her, they are ignoring the more serious ledes. :)

Btw, I didn't see the Clinton folks complaining when MSNBC continued to run a feature (headliners and legends or something) canonizing Clinton or when she has enjoyed more airtime.. including positive airtime throughout the course of the race. There is no rising bias against her, but Obama is now experiencing what she's enjoyed the past year. Clinton has been in a honeymoon phase with the press until recently while Obama is well acquainted with how unkind the press can be..

You may think this is funny but there really is an anti-Hillary group. Take a look. The Republican Machine has been trying to destroy her since Bill took office. Where is the fairness in that for Democrats to join them.

What is with this new format??? The page jumps all over the place when a comment is sent. It starts back at the top of the page, then you have to go looking for it.
Please go to a numerical format. It's far easier to deal with, and you know exactly where your posts will be.
I don't know who designed this format, but it's lousy.

When Democrats and others with some common sense get done with fighting with each other over Clinton vs Obama - don't forget one critical fact:

ITS ABOUT THE WAR - GEORGE W. BUSH'S FREAKING WAR - ITS W'S WAR, DICK CHENEY'S WAR AND ALL THE OTHER NEOCON BASTARDS' WAR.

End that and we can fund all the other things we need to do - McCain will not end it until he beats the Viet Cong into submission so we have to elect someone who will end it and as soon as possible.

Note to all the right wingnuts who will say "Cut and Run" - Damn straight and on the way home, our troops can invade Granada - just like we did when Ronnie Reagan cut and ran right out of Lebanon.
09:47 AM on 02/29/2008
Well, before you get to Grenada don't forget Cuba. John Kennedy did a good job there as well as Viet Nam. The whole world's a village, remember? Great democratic slogan. And, Jimmy Carter in Iran. Great leader there. And, Bill Clinton bombing baby food plants in Iraq. Really impressed the locals. Don't forget Bill's success with the warlords in Somalia. Yeah, you guys have a lock on the right stuff. Us republicans will just sit back and wait for you guys to implode. Happens to democrats about every two years.

Did you know that gas is near $4 a gallon? Your president didn't....
05:50 PM on 02/29/2008
FirstShirt, I have no problem with anyone pointing out the follies, blunders and disasters of military operations of any U.S. president regardless of his political ideology. And I don't disagree with any of your criticisms above with the exception of Carter and Iran. Sure, it could've been handled better but all of the hostages were eventually released. My point is, America became the Great Satan in Iran as the result of the 1953 CIA and British orchestrated coup that overthrew one of the middle east's first democracies and installed the brutal and corrupt Shah. He was of course beholden to us and we treated him like the puppet he was in order to control the oil, the strait etc. We can thank Eisenhower for the blow back that came in 1979. And no, I did not support Ron Paul for president. I knew about this long before I knew who Ron Paul was. But I do appreciate the fact that he has the courage to finally teach the American people some ugly truths about the nature of U.S. foreign policy. Here we are in 2008. What does it mean that 9 out of 10 Americans haven't a clue about important historical facts such as these?

I think it's simple. Obama is hot because he is new. It's a heckuva lot easier to write sharp new articles on a relative unknown that it is to research and plagarize-proof someone that's been around for 30 years. Obama started his campaign by writing his own story, ready made for campaign season. All he has to do is stand by and let the (rather lazy) media put the final shine on it.

On the other hand, Hillary's story has been deconstructed and critical race theorized for twenty years already and no pundit, academic or journalist is going to get a Pulitzer for any expose of her, that is for sure.
09:09 AM on 02/29/2008
Yeah, Hillary has told us how "vetted" she is, and sure, lots has been written and dished and much even further disected but it works to her advantage these days for it is "assumed", as so MUCH HAS BEEN written/disected/etc ad nauseum, no need to "really" bring up so consequently , it give sHillary (and Bill, her "partner"...) a sorta' free pass/ride presently as attention is on Obama to find some worthwhile dustups !!! Hillary (and Bill) complain they are "abused" due to media bias...a LOL, for they have had rather an easy ride in the lead upping to this present campaign --WE, the people have been HAMMERED with Hillary's inevitibility...coyly and with ploys that are obvious if one bothered to pay attention to and way before any primary vote was cast to even suggest elsewise in the hearts/minds/quests of the voters !!! TIRE OF THE CLINTONS WHINING !!!! FInd it but another coy ploy..Her REAL record deserves CURRENT VETTING, but is NOT being done, she gets another free pass yet WHINES endlessly as voters are finding they DO have a credible alternate to select. WHO really wants 4more years of harangued excuses of why fors and why nots and how all just out to get "them" cuz so they are so "beautiful" schickt !!! MANY DO NOT and want a CHANGE and ARE willing to roll the dice !!!

First, I'd like to say that it's good to see my pro-Hillary folks below finally speaking up here on Huff-Obama-Po. Some nights I felt like me and AnninCA were the only two.

What the Obama supporters fail to note is something interesting:

... in spite of the media showing him favor.

... in spite of his huge rallies and mass of followers.

... in spite of his much larger campaign fund running more TV ads.

Texas polls show it's still a DEAD HEAT.

Ohio polls still have CLINTON AHEAD.

Why is that? Why hasn't the Obama "mo" glided him past her just 5 days away from the next primary?

"Finall" speaking up. The Clintonista cultists have been here crying and kvetching 24/7 for weeks.

Gee. The Obamatons are WHINING that the media is in the tank for Hillary. Don't they realize they are WHINING? It sounds just like their comments on this site.

There has not been a single election day where HRC has won more delegates than Obama. The media is so pro-Clinton that it is disgusting. If the MSM was so interested in doing away with HRC, why haven't they been reporting this?

http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2008/2/27/20620/9054/106/464673

Each day delegates were won Obama first, followed by Clinton

1/3 (IA) 16 - 15
1/8 (NH) 9 - 9

1/26 (SC) 25 - 12
1/29 (FL) 0 - 0
2/5 (SuperTuesday) 842 - 828 (11 still to be decided)
2/9 (LA, NE, WA, VI) 105 - 56

it's always a conspiracy, first it that vast right wing conspiracy and now it's a vast left wing conspiracy.

But wait. There was (and still is) a vast Right Wing Conspiracy.

I support Obama but Hillary was certainly right about that!

Take that SNL, now thats funny!
06:34 PM on 02/28/2008
I thought the segment was extremely funny. Jon and his crew were doing what they do best, which is letting some of the hot air out of the windbags when ANY politician gets too full of themselves. He does it to all of them and is doing this country a great service. That was what made Will Rogers funny and is one of the responsibilities of the media.
