Samantha Bee

Last night on "The Daily Show," Samantha Bee satirized the media's grand "plan" to destroy the candidacy of Hillary Clinton. "We're at debate 20, and I think everyone here is a bit disappointed that it took Senator Clinton this long to catch on to our plan," Bee said, reporting from "the media's Anti-Hillary War Room in the Paula Jones Conference Center."

Bee explained to Stewart that Clinton is not being paranoid and that the press is, in fact, "out to get her," referring to two moments from Tuesday night's debate — one in which they accidentally cut to video of Clinton when they introduced it as an unflattering clip of Obama, the other when moderator Brian Williams did not let Clinton speak after Obama, insisting the need to go to commercial and explaining, "Television doesn't stop."

Watch:

This strikes me the same way that the SNL skit did. The main target was clearly the media, and not the candidates. In no way do I think that The Daily Show is on Hillary's "side," nor do I think they are on Obama's "side." I'm not a regular viewer of TDS, so I don't even know what their pattern of behavior is, but if this clip is any indication, then they are doing far more even-handed coverage of this campaign than the so-called "news" network MSNBC has done.

This Daily Show skit didn't make a statement so much as it asked a question: Is Hillary paranoid? Or is the press just freaking ridiculous in how they build some people up and tear other people down (re: the whole "sandcastle" analogy)?

Whatever advantage Obama enjoys in the "mainstream media" is being trumped by the cynicism of the "sketch-stream media."

Thank God the writers ended their strike. What would we have done without them.

Next up Geraldo Rivera opens Anti hillary HQ.

Let's see
My husband is having affairs because of a vast right wing conspiracy.
My campaign is going bad because of a vast media conspiracy.
And when its finally over -
I didn't become president because of a vast left wing male conspiracy.

Democrats need a to have a discussion about whether or not they
want someone that always claims to be a victim as president.

I prefer a media that has the courage to attack the lesser candidate, in this case it's Hillary. She ran a terrible campaign. Waisting money along the way. Her team did zero to build a consistent argument against an Obama presidency. Then they blame the media for it. Americans know his positions and record. We also know the lack of dirt on Obama compared to McCain and Hillary who are neck high in it

Worse than that, she was advised wrong. The dinosaurs that were advising her also advised her husband and were still in a position of political naval gazing, especially over themselves. So, they advised her to attach herself to her husbands "legacy." That was is right there. Game over!

Actually, most of her husband's advisors were deemed too untrustworthy for Hillary's campaign. I think Penn was from the first Clinton admin. but he would have been pretty young at the time, and was certainly not one of the better known of the Clinton advisors back then. Ickes was brought on later on by Hillary after things were already in the toilet.

I think Hillary always thought she knew better than Bill's folks. Oops.

Like all good Daily Show skits, this one has a basis in fact. Yes, they were making fun of Hillary, but they were also poking the MSM right in the eye. Good for them. The Daily Show seldom disappoints.

You gotta love Samantha Bee.

How come it is only after 11 straight losses that we start hearing of media bias...

Dodd and Edwards use to complain at debates that they never got questions.

Since when is the media supposed to go out of their way to do favorable coverage.

Who can name one shining accomplishment of Hillary's in the senate?

Was it because of the presses war against her that she stumbled in SC? Did they hold their fire until then?

Obama has been on the news with the Rezko non-story. He has been on with phony Madrassas in Pakistan. He has been on with the present votes.

I am sorry this is the best they can do on him... He just does not have as much baggage as Hillary and has no iraq vote for the war...

In the last SNL before the writers strike, the one where Obama made a surprise cameo and where Brian Williams hosted, jokes were made about the media annointing Hillary before the fact.

Nobody in Obama's campaign said, "I told you so," or Edwards' or Kucinich's campaign for that matter. SNL takes trends and exagerates them for comedy.

The strike ends and in the first episode back, they make fun of the media's fawning for Obama. It's true. The media has a crush on Obama. So do the voters. We're all little Obama Girls at heart.

But Hillary Clinton, the candidate who has been telling us she'll be ready on day one, should not be fixating on this phenomenon.

Remember when you were in school and there was a "new kid in town." And maybe she was cute, or maybe she had rich parents, or maybe she came from someplace exotic and for a week or two, everbody was gaga over her? And then remember how the girl who used to be the popular one would say mean things about her because she was pissed at the loss of attention?

Well this is just like that, but instead of the formerly popular girl whining and throwing stones. It's the teacher, or the prinicipal of the school.

Hillary Clinton is a 61 year old Senator who wants to be President. She has endured a lifetime with a famously philandering husband. She should know how to deal with brief infatuations and flirtations.

It's okay that she mentioned the skit on the stump along with her own "imitation" of Obama, but to open the debate with not only a reference to it, but a mention of the fact that she is always first to answer questions, is remarkably ill-advised.

She tells us that she is battle tested and Obama won't be able to stand up to the Republican Machine, and then she acts like this.

SNL, TDS and others are in the business of satire. They take true things and exagerate them. She should let such jokes resonate instead of trumpeting them in a way that makes viewers think "she doesn't get it."

Hillary, if you want to know how to handle a joke, look at that guy to your left. They showed Hillary mocking him (albeit by accident) and his reaction was to flash us that smile, chuckle and say he thought it was funny and that she deserves points for good delivery.

That's class.

That's getting it.

That's our next President.

That's avoidance. Another non-commital move by Obama. Obama mocked Hillary over the question they were both asked during the debate before this one. What is your weakest quality? Obama mocked Hillary's answer. So, both Hillary and Obama are guilty of this. But st. Obama gets a pass.

A perfect example was the "accidental" showing of the video where Hillary was mocking Obama's televangelist style of speechmaking. Another thing no one mentions is how oBama kept overtalking Hillary. How about the last debate when Brown would cut Hillary off but let oBama go on and on letting him lapse into his stump speech at times. You would have to be an idiot not to see the overwhelming bias against the Clinton family in the media. Or a member of some slavish cult.

The lack of media coverage on Hillary isn't a cause of her declining campaign; it's a result of it. Her mismanagement of funds, improper advertising tactics, and general demeanor have driven the public to become attentive to someone else, so the media follows. When she was on top, there was no media bias, but now that she's second fiddle, suddenly there is. Sounds like a sense of entitlement to me.

Perhaps she, and you as well, forget that her husband was such a media darling back in 92. She'd be a nobody if it wasn't for that.

Hillary has been lambasted by the press and it is disgusting. Obama gets a free ride so we can have an unvetted junior person to the run the country. I am glad Hillary is finally speaking up, although it may be too late.

We are a democracy - the press is here to report the news, not create it, not spin it, not agenda-ize it, and not selectively present it. THE PRESS IS SHAMEFUL.

While all the jokes about pension checks are hilariously funny, I would be really happy if one person would point out to me one positive story about Hillary on either the Huffington Post or the daily kos. As near as I can tell, they don't exist.

You would have to travel back in time. I think you could go back to 1992-2000, when both of the Clintons were media darlings. They somehow are in a state of shock when they FINALLY get asked a tough question or are questioned at all. They have this look like, "How dare you question a Clinton."
I mean think about it, you couldn't ask Barak why he didn't hand over his W-2's. And by the way they could have gone even further at the debate because the same people that are holding up those records are the same people holding up the White House email archives, THE CLINTONS.

daily kos and Huffington Post are left-wing blog sites aren't aren't beholden to the same standards as the press. They gather news from other sources and editorialize. They're not the mainstream media, they are specialized forums.

Perhaps if Clinton had run a positive campaign, she would be receiving positive press.

You can't look to the Huffington Post or Daily Kos for fair coverage. That's like looking for palm trees in the Arctic. They are both left wing sites with a strong bias and an overzealous delete key when comments start normalizing. These are just playgrounds for like-minded folks to slap each other on the back and viciously denigrate everyone else.

Chastising media for bias is like chastising lions for eating meat. If they are reporting one thing it means they aren't reporting something else. You report what you want and everyone will come down on you for not reporting something else. It is up to the viewers and readers to do their own vetting.

You know if there is any bias, perhaps the press is just jealous of the Clintons' pension plans

If Hillary Clinton wins in 2008 And Bill Clinton is 'appointed' to fill her Senate Seat And either of them live to retire... (together or alone)

they would get...two US Presidential retirement checks, two US Senate retirement checks, and A retirement check from the State of Arkansas .

About the only thing they MIGHT NOT get is... A Social Security Check....

But I wouldn't bet on it.... I understand ole Bill has earned $40,000,000 in the past six years. What a guy! AND THE REST OF THE STORY...

Hillary Clinton, as a New York State Senator, comes under the 'Congressional Retirement and Staffing Plan,' which means that even if she never gets re-elected, She STILL receives her Congressional salary until she dies. (Would it not be nice if all Americans Were pension eligible after only 4 years?)

If Bill outlives her, He then inherits HER salary until HE dies.

He is already getting his Presidential salary until he dies.

If Hillary outlives Bill, She also gets HIS salary until she dies. Guess who pays for that?

It's common knowledge that in order for Hillary To establish NY residency, They purchased a million dollar-plus house In upscale Chappaqu, New York. Makes sense! They are entitled to Secret Service protection for life.

Here is where it becomes even more interesting. Their mortgage payments hover at around $10,000 per month.

BUT, an extra residence 'had' to be built within the acreage to house The Secret Service agents.

The Clintons' charge The Federal government $10,000 monthly rent for the use of that extra residence, which is about equal to their mortgage payment.

This means that we taxpayers, are paying for the Clintons' salaries, mortgage, transportation, and security, as well as the salaries for their 12 person staff -- and, it is all perfectly legal!

And Jimmy Carter and GHW Bush as well as any other President. The real question is how Obama managed to buy a $2 million house in 2004 after being unable to rent a car at the 2000 Democratic convention because his credit cards were maxed out. How does one do that?
Since his first book was published in 1996 and the second one in 2006, it couldn't have been book sales.
