Samantha Bee

Last night on "The Daily Show," Samantha Bee satirized the media's grand "plan" to destroy the candidacy of Hillary Clinton. "We're at debate 20, and I think everyone here is a bit disappointed that it took Senator Clinton this long to catch on to our plan," Bee said, reporting from "the media's Anti-Hillary War Room in the Paula Jones Conference Center."

Bee explained to Stewart that Clinton is not being paranoid and that the press is, in fact, "out to get her," referring to two moments from Tuesday night's debate — one in which they accidentally cut to video of Clinton when they introduced it as an unflattering clip of Obama, the other when moderator Brian Williams did not let Clinton speak after Obama, insisting the need to go to commercial and explaining, "Television doesn't stop."

TDS satirizes the much discussed media bias against Hillary. And very funny, too. But like most good satire, it takes a piece or an implication of the story and blows it up into farce. But that doesn’t mean that there is no truth to the story. The “media bias” that Hillary suffers isn’t from straight journalism, although that would naturally be implied by talking about “media bias.” The bias, which I defy anyone to prove otherwise, is that the preponderance of the media opnionata – the talking heads and now blogosphere – have been fiercely anti Clinton since this race has started to heat up. Although most of the storyline for this pile-on have been pulled from the right-wing propaganda on the Clintons since Bill took office and Hillary took an active role in policy, it’s now become CW across the board -including much of HuffPo. Except for the outbursts from some of the more ardent and out-of-control Clinton supporters, this is something Obama simply doesn’t have to deal with.

She wants to be president, she thinks she would make a good president, but she feels like the campaign playing field, which plays out mostly in the realm of opinion, is tilted sharply in her opponent’s favor, and she shouldn’t complain (whine is the favorite word, bitch is a close second) about this?

Wouldn’t you?

Well, she's run a rotten (in every sense of the word) campaign. People happened to notice. If I'd performed so poorly, yes, I'd expect that to be what people responded to. And, actually, whining about it just compounds her failure. If nothing else, it's rotten tactics, making her come across as a self-centered, complaining loser. Who wants to vote for that?

Well said, tdbach. The Hillary-haters on HuffPo are having a ball letting out their inner Rush Limbaugh. What kills me is these are the same people who claim to follow Obama's call for "change from old-time divisive politics." How can you - with a straight face - claim to be all for ending partisanship and, at the same time, take nasty anonymous shots at someone who has been a good member of your own party for decades? As a Hillary supporter myself, I'm more open to accepting Obama as the nominee than these haters would be in accepting Clinton. If these hateful Obamamaniacs are the "hope of the future" then God help us.

Thank you! Obama is no uniter. He has caused a rift in the democratic party a mile wide. How dare he blame a fellow democrat for Iraq, when we all know exactly who is responsible.
I don't think obama really cares about the democratic party, except as a vehicle to ride into the white house. He says the GOP were the party of ideas, and blames a fellow dem for the war in Iraq. WTF?????

I wonder if Hillary will start referring to this fake piece as well.

She's so lame at this point.

I don't think anyone is saying there is some grand conspiracy. I haven't heard any accusations of meetings in dark smoke filled rooms. I think Hillary is saying, as the right has said for years, that members of the media have a predisposition towards more liberal candidates. I don't recall the stat, but something like 90% of those affiliated with the media voted democratic in the last election. It shouldn't surprise people if those inclinations creep into reporting. I have a hard time believing that there are people that refuse to believe this is the case while being so certain that Fox News is conspiring against all democrats, but to each their own...

OK, let's assume that your hypothesis, that the media is more biased towards "liberal" candidates is correct. How does that factor into the Obama-Clinton campaign? Is Obama more "liberal" then Clinton?

It's simply a bias against women. It has nothing to do with who is more liberal. One can never be more liberal; liberal is liberal. As one might be a conservative. The press has an obvious contempt for the "female" politician, that being Hillary Clinton and then in its bipolar way, has shown remorse and sometimes humor for this approach. Most folks will get all defensive over this statement because they can't possibly be sexist, BS, BS, BS -- but come on our government, corporations, entertainment industry, press, radio, tv, internet, AD agencys prove otherwise. We still have a long way to go baby.

There's a decent amount of stuff out there debunking the "left wing media bias." e.g., Eric Alterman's "What Liberal Media?" It's an interesting read and adds a little balance to the ever-present right wing mantra about bias in the press.

You know when you polarize a group of people this is what happens to you. They shut you off and tune you out! Now do you get why she would never be able to get any thing done in the white House? LThe only reason some people stood bsehind her as long as they did, is because they were scared of the back lash if she became president. Now they believe she won't get it, and they are jumping ship now. Obama is be denoralized as inexperienced-----but if he was smart he's used all those blown aprart soldiers from Iraq as his talking point to blow Mccain jout of the water. Obama would be smart to start his rounds at the veterans hospitals now, and talk to thier parents about Mccains Idea's to keep thier loved ones in Iraq for many years to come. It's time to show Mccain for what he is. A bitter old man who's mind was warped by torture, and who's temper cannot be controled and who's idea's ar thosse of the past and formed by hatered toward the communist. He will never believe communist countrys can be changed or be spokento or worked with decently. He's so eager for this position that his flip floping is already parent to those who listen. it's embarrassing to see a war hero come to this state-----but there it is folks.

full of it that's what you played out hillary supporters really are - you have the most negative candidate out there and are surprised that people respond to her in negative terms - you need to come to terms with the fact that she's done

The TDS item sent direct from "the media's Anti-Hillary War Room in the Paula Jones Conference Center" was actually a camouflaged, satirical put-down of an unmentioned but inferred Huffington Post, I firmly believe that, and all you suckers who think Samantha was attacking Hillary or satirizing the media are, well, s-o-o-o-o not with it.

It's about damned time that the anti-Hillary bias in the media has been acknowledged, even if it is in satirical format. If any MSM media commentators had used terms like "pimped out" to decribe Michelle Obama's role in her husbands campaign, the world as we know it would have come to an end.

Words like "casrati" to describe male Hillary supporters don't belong in the realm of TV reporting.

Neither I feel is the whining of Hillary trolls a healthful thing in this election.

Although the casrati will always be there to protect her at moments like the 20th debate.

I'm going to go pimp my ride now.

You mean like referring to "lynching" Michelle Obama if certain conditions were met.

And nothing happened to the guy who said that. Unlike the 2 week, rightful, suspension of Shuster for his tasteless "pimped out," reference.

Yeah, poor poor Hillary. No one ever gets anything bad from the media, but her. She's the only one. Thank goodness she found out about the anti-Hillary command center! Maybe now she can take steps to deal with it, once and for all.

psssst.... it's "castrati" (as in castrate) a medieval practice to keep male singers' voices high-pitched... think of it as eunuchs who can sing...

The media carried Hillary's water all of 2007. They promoted her as the "inevitable" candidate, never questioned her "35 years of experience" just took it at face value.

Why is she whining now? 11 straight double-digit losses? 9 out 22 Super Tuesday losses? No money? No message?

One of the celebrity posters, Erica Jong gushed on about how she was getting "emails from women and super-smart men complimenting me on my article about Hillary." I'm paraphrasing a bit, but the quote "women and super-smart men" is accurate. So Jong is saying that only men with the highest intellect can understand what a women of average intelligence knows, and that is Hillary's is wonderful. I'd say this is a sexist comment.

Seriously, I keep thinking the same thing.

"The right is out to get me! The left is out to get me! People more in the center understand me!"

"Uhm, Senator Clinton, Independents far favor Senators McCain and Obama than you . . ."

"There's an Independents Bias against me amongst voters!"

How long before it becomes - "They're all out to get me!!!" Someone read the definition of "paranoia" to Senator Clinton, please.
