Conway

INSIDE EDITION sat down for an exclusive interview with former Taxi and current Celebrity Rehab star Jeff Conaway, who says he has finally kicked his drug habit by practicing Scientology.

According to Conaway, "I've been doing Scientology...my doctor was like, Holy cow, he says whatever you've been doing keep doing it because it's really working."

Conaway says his former Grease co-star John Travolta introduced him to the controversial religion. "John and I stayed friends but he couldn't watch me going down the tubes...he gave me a whole library of Scientology books and he's given me an auditor who comes almost every day."

Conaway, who lost over 40 pounds while participating in VH1's Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew, tells INSIDE EDITION he can't wait to get back in front of the camera. "I'm going to be strong and healthy and totally together. I've got to get ready for my Academy Award®."

Tune in to INSIDE EDITION on Monday, March 3rd, 2008 for the full interview.

This won't last.As soon as they realize he doesn't have any money, and that he isn't really a celebrity, they'll find a way to drop his pitiful ass.

Do you not realize that Jeff gets money for every episode of Taxi and every time Grease is shown on TV? Believe me, he has money! How do you think he affords a maid and a big house? He also has John Travolta helping him out.! I do not believe in Scientology but if it helps Jeff so he doesn't die than that is great for him! Anything that will help him is better than nothing! I praise John Travolta for helping his friend. I was hoping that he would come to Jeff's help.

Neither the blog nor the comments have said why Scientology bothered with saving him from substance abuse. The why could be more interesting than the how.

while not a 'star', he's a known actor. the hope is that his fans, no matter how many will join, so they can be 'just like him'

There is a rumor that it takes money to buy into Scientology. The rumor also says that Scientology isn't interested if a person seeking to embarce Scientology doesn't have a lot of money. Scientology continues to be patriotic; they take green backs. Scientology doesn't demand payment in Euro's, yet.

Celebrity Apprentice should run a Celebrity Rehab and Deprogramming center. That would be interesting.

How do you "do" scientology?

Since this guy is a mess and bound to fall off the wagon,
I just wonder where the "church" has him confined?

I mean now they have a vested interest in his sobriety.

You "do" Scientology by auditing- which is basically talking about the past while hooked up to a biofeedback machine that tells you when you are emotionally clear of it. They also have a number of detox programs. It would be awesome if Scientology was just a science of life, rather than a religion or cult or whatever you want to call it. Helping people get off drugs is good, brainwashing them into isolating themselves from their family & former friends &/or taking taking all of their money is not.

That is what a Scientologist would say an audit is. What an audit really is is a bunch of very thinly trained, often very young followers who come in and listen to you confess your darkest, deepest secrets, which are then recorded and filed in the event that you ever - EVER - speak ill of scientology or try to leave their ranks. It is a tool in Hubbard's Fair Game policy. Simply put, it is Scientolgies insurance policy that you will always fall into line.

well, he's not doing drugs, but instead he had to get involved with a cult to do it. he better start getting acting roles, cuz being a scientologist is expensive.

Very few know the history of this "religion".

The basic concept came from a bet between former Science Fiction writer L. Ron Hubbard (founder of scientology) and Forrest Ackerman, one of the preeminent magazine editors of the day, if not the most important in the history of Science Fiction.

It should be remembered that Hubbard was a really mediocre writer, almost a hack, who decided to stop writing pulp fiction for 4 cents a word, and try to make some real money through an invented religion.

Only if he dumps the girlfriend will I believe he's cured--by either Dr. Drew or Father John. By the way, I agree: whatever course Conaway takes to get sober, it was Dr. Drew (a psychiatrist) who made him ready.

HuffPo at least spell his last name correct on the headline.

I never thought Jeff would recover from his drug addiction when I watched bits and pieces of Celebrity Rehab, but I am glad that he found a way to kick the drugs even if it is Scientology.

He looks like a totally different person now. I wish him luck.

That's correctly, not correct. Please spell his last name correctly on the headline. At least, use proper English.

Hope it works out for him. But exchanging one addiction for another seems problematic.

I tried to give up my sex addiction for donuts. Worked for awhile but eventually I was busted at Dixie Kreme for lewd behavior in the jelly filled section.

Look, I don't have anything more against Scientology than against any other religion. They're all bunk. I looked into Scientology a few years back, got onto their website and took a survey. They claimed I needed help. Interesting—since I've been recovered from my own alcoholism for thirty years and am a pretty well adjusted and contented human being. What I saw on their website was a lot of psuedo-science and half-understood psychological concepts, nothing very substantial. Still, their emphasis on psychological recovery is better than the abject surrender of self to priests and ministers.

Their emphasis isn't on "psychological recovery,." Everything they claim to believe in is based on this theory.....an evil galactic war lord named Xenu lived on a far away planet 50,000 (or 50,000 million) years ago. The planet exploded and evil little pods from that planet (and from Xenu) ended up inside the brains of every single human being who has ever lived.
In order to CLEAR our brains of those evil pods (which cause alcoholism and drug abuse), we have to pay Scientology a base "fee" of $200,000 in order to be "cleared."
So......if you this stupid, ridiculous story is "psychological recovery," then YOU have more than a few screws loose in your brain!

I'm sure there is something about Scientology that helps people. The best scams are built on a speck of truth, otherwise, people would never get sucked in.

In anycase, I think I'd rather see Jeff Conway on Scientology than on drugs.

Conaway plummeted long ago to the Z-list celeb list. I'm sure he's fine with a name typo. He's just lucky no one's had a chance to butcher his name in an obituary.
