Nearly 70 percent of Americans believe traditional journalism is out of touch, and nearly half are turning to the Internet to get their news, according to a new survey.

While most people think journalism is important to the quality of life, 64 percent are dissatisfied with the quality of journalism in their communities, a We Media/Zogby Interactive online poll showed.

unless they framed the question as, "do you think the media is in touch or out of touch?" they would not have gotten that result. If they asked, instead, if the media was derelict in its obligation to report the truth or complicit in covering up the crimes of the Bush administration, the result would have been a unanimous, "Yes." The spin derives from the english you put on the ball.

Corporate Media is the whole problem, it needs to be broken up and dumped in the nearest waste receptical. When the so-called Journalist working for corporate media do not report on the corruption inside this Administration, the Congress, and Judicial Branch of Our government , the media becomes the problem.

Raker, you're right! "Out of Touch" is not the correct phrase. MSM is one big corporation and pushes exactly what Corporate America wants to keep the public mezmarized and unmindful of what is really happening in this country. Which is....this country is now a Plutocracy, the corporations run this country.

The MSM is currently FIVE big corporations, if I recall correctly. It was recently 6 for quite some time...

The media likes to run stories about Britney and Hitlon and so on. For example how many days have they ran with Prince Harry in war story? 3 or 4 days? during that time what have they reported about our own guys who are fighting two fronts. Not a word. I'm not British so I could care less about Harry.
The press of today is a joke and they are fools. If they would have done their job Bush Cheney would have been impeached already, Many of the current GOP would awiting trial for the many crimes that they have committed and the average Americans would know how many troops have died in both Iraq and Afghanistan. which by the way 3973 in Iraq and 483 in Afghanistan oh and by the way Bin Laden is still alive and well....

The press isn't out of touch. The press is composed of cynical, manipulative, dishonest, corporate stooges on a mission to sell lightbulbs. They'll say or do whatever is best for GE or Viacom or Murdoch. But saying they're out of touch implies they'd do the right thing if only they knew better. They know exactly what they're doing.

Let's take for example the white house press corps. A more useless bunch of people I have never seen. If they asked a real question they might never get a chance to ask another one. Another fact , Bush hardly ever has news conferences. When he does It's just a way to "catapult the propaganda". That by the way was a Bush quote. They have rendered themselves useless. Scared wage earners that don't want to mess up their careers. I can understand that but the consequence is they are know obsolete. I hate TV and radio and newspaper news with a passion.
If they ever go back to reporting the news and doing real investigative journalism I might give them another chance.

If it wasn't for MSM the final Candidates that would be debating would be Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich.

The MSM still has power and it has most of the people here.

Happy to agree with you -- I gave up on MSM when FOX decided to ban Paul from the N.H. Debate. The repetitive biases of the MSM talking heads gets quite boring. Blogs allow for a dialogue, which makes for an authentic and self-correcting exchange of information. However, the monologues of the talking heads are perfectly suited to the authoritarian mind (e.g., did anyone ever ask Hitler a question?). The talking heads have betrayed their calling -- which is to report the facts. A case in point: On MSNBC today, they had a "report" concerning the interest our troops in Iraq have in the upcoming election. It was NOT reported that the troops have given more to the Ron Paul campaign than to any of the other candidates. Some "reporting".

I am being forced to get my news from the Internet because :

1. Nightly News on television no longer has any news in it. Just nightly "medical miracles".

2. Our regional newspaper the Denver Post has recently been downsized to . . . what it is I am not sure. But it sure as Hell is not a NEWSpaper.

It is sad to see the Post go to Hell. Each day it gets a little worse. I can't waste my money on it any more.

And the other 30% must watch Faux????
Love newspapers but, like in Denver, the News dept. is the first to go when the axe falls. Now, that writer who has the restaurant/wine reviews will get even more space... non news of course, but it helps sell advertising and really, that's all that matters to corporate owners whose stock share matter more than an informed public.
Obvious I know, but where is the rage that this is happening??

Another point is people don't have to wait for the 6 o'clock news anymore.
The internet is immediate.
And unless you ride the train for your daily commute,
people don't take time to resd the paper.

There was a time when we had journalists, guys like Nelson Algren who pulled down a paycheck, hung out in the poolroom and worried about the same things the rest of us did. Now our "journalists" are millionaires talking about billionaires.

What is really telling is that 30% are complete idiots -- and I hate the the fact that I know a lot of them.

That same 70 percent tend to believe everything they see on TV and read in newspapers.

Ask the advertisers.
