And apparently (thanks, Feminazi), the Israeli Deputy Defense Minister threatened the Palestinians with "shoah". That's holocaust, folks.
It's incredibly alarming that he used that word; there's a camp inside the Israeli government that's been arguing that policy for decades, but they usually cloak it in terms like "transference". The fact that you have a member of government that high up who will literally make the argument "look Palestinians - get your act together or we'll kill every last one of you" is shocking.
This stuff is never reported in the US press. If a major newspaper in the United States were to report on Israel the way the Israeli press itself does, it would be roundly decried as anti-semetic. If USA Today were to borrow a Haaretz, or even a Jerusalem Post byline, they'd get hit with an immediate boycott.
I was equally disgusted when I read his 'holocaust' comment.
It's so distrubing.
Yet, you'll never be able to convince someone like NoMoreWarC
To him, a Jew is a Jew is a Jew...
...and he'll forever remain a moron.
Once again we see how "Gods chosen people" choose to manage a situation that they created. The entire Palestinian problem was created by Israel's illegal expansion and their ethnic cleansing to remove the Palestinian people from their lands and to claim that land for their own.
More proof that religion kills...
If disagreeing with Israel on their Palestinian policies and murders makes me an anti-semite then so be it.
When Israel complies with one UN resolution, takes down its wall, normalizes the Warsaw-lke ghettos it has created and starts treating Palestinians like human beings instead of animals I may change my opinion. But their illegal nuclear arsenal, their cynical use of the holy lands for political and financial gain in the US, their exploitation of biblical prophecy, and their expectation that Americans fight and die for them in a war against Iran or whomever they think they need to fight will keep me squarely against their country for the time being.
If this is what Judaism has in mind for the world, and I believe it is, then they deserve the same treatment as North Korea. Israel is certainly as shrill and self rightous and bellicose as North Korea....
Holocaust in Europe was a retaliation of the “superior” race against the “second-rate” people.
Israel treats Palestinians as the second-rate people, same way the Nazis treated Gypsies, Slavs, and Jews. Israel betrays all the norm of humanness and deserves to be called the apartheid aggressor-state.
The true Jewish tradition values the life above everything else. The Zionist state of Israel professes terrorism in support of the idea of the exclusiveness of the Jewish race, thus insulting the memory of the best Jewish minds who contributed to the world civilization.
I agree Galina.
Israel ignited this to find anything to distract the peace process since it is really not their best interest to lose the West Bank which is the largest aquifier in the area along with the Golan Heights among other things.
Peace is not in Israel's best interest, what would happen to its trillion dollar War industry?
Does Israel have the right to exist? In my opinion, yes. It has been in existence for 60 years and may it exist till the end of time. 63 Palestinians dead. Killed by the Hamas assholes firing rockets into Israel. No rockets, no dead Palestinians. Period! It is impossible to make peace with someone whose intention is to wipe you off the face of the earth. Until that intention changes (never) there will be war. There isn't a damn thing the Israelis can do to stop it other than mass suicide. No amount of giving in to Palestinian demands will do so long as Israel holds one square inch of "Palestine". Under those conditions, is it any wonder that the Jews won't play nice? (The jews have committed many atrocious acts and are far from blameless)
Well put, Gary!
That is delusional. Israel has committed more gross violations of international law and human rights law than any nation in the region. The occupation is illegal, and they do not want peace as evidenced by its refusal to proceed accordingly. The Palestinians and the entire Arab world have offered peace based on the legal 1967 borders and Israel has refused. Your analysis is tired and false.
I suppose the roughly half-million dead Sudanese aren't a violation of international law?
How about the thousands of women killed annually in honor killings in Syria and Jordan. That's cool with you?
Gary50,go back to your brain washed bible thumping stupid world and leave discussion to people wih brains and who don't walk around believing in fairy tale nonsense.
"I just believe the Israeli's have a right to their state and to live in peace."
I couldn't agree more. But the eye-for-an-eye strategy has not achieved peace and never will. And I have to think that Israel's political leaders understand this and do not really want peace, any more than the Hamas leaders do. Perpetual conflict keeps their political base fired up and keeps them in power.
Actually, many of Israel's attacks are offensive, whether responding to perceived threat, punishing Palestinians for voting a certain way, expressing protest, etc. The question is not whether or not Israel has a right to exist, but why the international community continues to absolve the state of responsibility and why it fails to hold it accountable for the flagrant human rights violations it has committed in both in the occupied territories, as well as Israel proper?
Have you ever been the area? Do you know the extent to which checkpoints limit the livelihood of Palestinians, or the extent to which the West Bank resembles a bantustans? Palestinians actually have different roads, license plates, IDs. Discrimination against Arabs (both institutional and interpersonal) is rampant and largely unacknowledged. This is apatheid. Can you blame a population without a way out to respond in any other way? Esp when the media ignores the more peaceful protests?
Does Israel have a right to exist? Yes, of course. But it must choose to either integrate Palestinians into Israeli society with FULL RIGHTS (and it won't due to changes in demographics) or allow the population to maintain it's own sovereignty. It cannot imprison an entire population, deny them basic human rights and continue the false diplomacy it's been engaging in the past few decades. It's not enough to merely call a discussion a "peace talk" when your state is actively using military persuasion to force Palestinians to their "senses." There is nothing diplomatic about a position that dictates positions without submitting ideas as proposals or approaching negotiations without justice/compromise in mind.
The outrage at the deaths in Gaza or anywhere is a pronounced sign that we live in a world that still believes or purports to believe in the sanctity of all human life regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, nationality, or culture. It is important, however, to take a step back and edit the harsh rhetoric, the use of analogies involving the Nazi's is a logical and ethical misstep. From Rwanda, Serbia, and Cambodia we have seen that whole scale slaughter of millions of people by their own people is not only possible but was a repeated pattern in the twentieth century. We as Americans, are now no longer, able to unilaterally dictate to anyone, we must build coalitions and work with our allies, and it is time to start having a long view of our commitment to peace and stability. The young men and women in the Israeli army are no different than the young men and women in the Palestinian Forces, they are frightened, want peace, and want to live a life without violence. The overwhelming majority of Israeli's and Palestinians have the same concerns as the average American, going to work, paying the rent, buying groceries, taking care of the family. And, they are all as removed from the mechanisms of government as all of us are from President Bush and the administration running the foreign policy of America. We are a nation known mostly for our nuclear and military might, let us become a nation known for our ability to bring peace and prosperity to the world.
Well put.
"On Friday, Israeli Deputy Defense Minister Matan Vilnai renewed a threat to invade Gaza to crush militant rocket squads that attack southern Israel daily." (taken from above in huffpo article)
this is the sanitized quote from Vilnai that I have read in the American press. Except for the nytimes which buried and tried to explain away the beyond contemptible statement from Vilnai and Israel's response to Hamas, no American news organization, including huffington
"Israel's deputy defence minister yesterday warned his country was close to launching a huge military operation in Gaza and said Palestinians would bring on themselves a "bigger shoah," using the Hebrew word usually reserved for the Holocaust.
http://www
The Israeli defense minister not only says that Israel will commit genocide against the Palestinians but that they are ALREADY guilty of a Holocaust against the Palestinia
While the Israeli program of eugenics against the Palestinians is not a new story(the forced malnutrition and depravations against the Palestinians, and saddest of all the malnutrition imposed on the innocent children is creating a population that will score perhaps 20 points less on I.Q. tests, dooming them to a lesser life, to weak to fight their oppressors), the pleasure the American press seems to take in abetting the crime of genocide(or at a minimum, eugenics) is beyond despicable.
Unlike the people in the American press(including huffpo) who ignore this shocking story I personally find a shoah, eugenics, and genocide pure evil.
When my sister is asked in the University classes she teaches "what side is she on", like me, she answers: "I am on the side of justice!"
Shlomo Ramirez said "If the Israelis put down their weapons there would be no more Israel."
So? What's the problem? Good riddance. _ Right there you'd have world peace.
The genocidal policy of the Israeli government toward the Palestinians should not be tolerated by any country that claims to be civilized, yet the United States continues not only to look the other way but to actively aid and abet it, with the connivance of its corporate media. It is time for a reality check on US-Israeli relations. For a start read "The Israel Lobby and US Foreign Policy" by Measheimer and Walt.
Okay, the Israel apologists may now pile on and call me an "anti-Semi
IF CALLING ISRAEL'S MILITARY AGGRESSION MAKES ME ANTI SEMITIC, THAN THAT'S WHAT I'LL BE AS WELL! JUST CALLING IT THE WAY I SEE IT!
Why am I starting to think AHMADINEJAD IS RIGHT ABOUT ISRAEL?
HMMM
YAY FOR RUBBERSTAMPING what an Israeli leader calls "worse than a holocaust"
takes a holocaust to know a holocaust
what happened to NEVER AGAIN? Hello Western Civilization, are you there? SOMEONE IS SCREAMING OUT THERE IN GAZA
WAKE THE FUCK UP ALREADY
He is wrong, so is Hamas and so are the Israelis.
Its time to impose peace.
1] Cut off all arms sales to the middle east
2] Cut off all funding.
Then sit down and threaten.
Well, that's a little TOO sensible for the nutcases in question. Both sides are ALWAYS right and the other side is ALWAYS wrong. Reminds me of fighting with my ex.
This link is exactly way I support Obama
http://www
Obama (wink wink) is the most likely candidate to position himself as a mediator more than a staunch supporter of Israel.
He has always been right, in fact, the only country to litterally be wiped off the map is Palestine.
Ahmadinajad also raised a good question, why should the Palestinians suffer for something they had nothing to do with, the Holocaust?
If you anti-Semitic screamers would cool it, the rational critics of Israeli policy might be able to make some progress. People like you discredit the serious critics and give ammunition to the Israel-can
rhetoric? I am outraged by their behavior and yet ZERO criticism from Westernized countries. I refuse to stay silent when there's an injustice
Just because I criticize israel does not make me anti-semitic, it makes me anti-zionist! Many jews are not zionists.
FYI, Ahmadinejad isn't anti-semitic, just anti-zionist. To spare any arguments, here's a link:

One thing for sure, the Gaza ghetto bombing will turn even moderate Palestinians radical.
This imprisonment of a people must be stopped.
The west rejected out of hand the results of a free and fair election, then allowed Israel first to cut off money and goods, then allowed them to build a wall around Gaza and starve them out.
Its barbaric, these people have nowhere to run to, they cant escape, its heinous and a criminal act.
Its time for the US to stop vetoing every UN resolution, it is time to stop new settlements in the West Bank robbing the Palestinians of land and more importantly water. and it is time to stop Israeli occupation of Palestine.
Impose the 1967 borders, or forget ever having peace in the middle east.
If the Palestinians put down their weapons there would be no more war.
If the Israelis put down their weapons there would be no more Israel.
If the Israelis stop settling in the West bank as stop stealing land and water, and return to the 1967 borders, maybe they can both put away their weapons.
I have absolutely no sympathy left for these Israeli assholes. They are no different than the Nazi's who attempted to annihilate them. Why don't they just build a bunch of gas ovens and get it over with ?
so basically, ramirez, you're saying that palestine should go along with israeli domination, dictates and continued efforts marginalize them as a people. personally, i think that this would be preferable to the daily violence, but I have a feeling that won't fly with the palestinians or the rest of the world.
No, that would be silly. But I do think the Palis should stop the rocket attacks and the suicide bombers and in general stop behaving like jihadi assholes. Then the Israelis would listen to them and everyone could start working stuff out.
There are many wrong-headed, even semi-criminal policies that the State of Israel is most assuredly guilty of. This is not one of these.
That free-thinking and fair-minded people could deny Israel the right to retaliate against rocket attacks on civilian targets, is sheer political and moral hypocrisy. You can condemn Israel for its punitive and manipulative border-crossing versus labor policies, it's rather manipulative and anti-humanitarian blockade policies, but retaliation for attacks? Come on! Rabid anti-zionists are as bad as rabid zionists, in my book. Neither can apply logic or symmetry to their arguments.
I have no problem with Israel seeking out the actual perpetrators of the missile attacks, putting them on trial and executing them if found guilty.
However this, and all the other indiscriminate assaults against innocent Palestinians, that Israel has engaged in, amounts to nothing but state administered TERRORISM.
I agree with your entire comment Perdurabo.
"I have no problem with Israel seeking out the actual perpetrators of the missile attacks, putting them on trial and executing them if found guilty.

Again. asymmetry in argumentation. It's impractical and unrealistic to identify, locate, arrest and try criminals operating with the active approval, material aid and support of the government whose policies they are, in fact, carrying out. The rocket attacks on Israel are Hamas "state" sponsored terrorism. Retaliation - albeit highly concentrated on the source location of the attack, is merely pressure to curtail such policies on the other side. All the gnashing of teeth, hand-wringing, and bleatings to the contrary notwithstanding. As I said elsewhere, there are plenty of things for which Israel can and should be condemned. Retaliation against not-even-veiled state-sponsored terrorist rocket attacks is not one of those things.
So punishing the civilians is proper recourse?
Last time I checked, that was the definition of terrorism.
