Report: Shelley Ross, Tantrum- Prone "Early Show" Producer, May Be Fired Within Weeks

Yesterday's Page Six reported more tension at CBS' "The Early Show," led by tantrum-prone executive producer Shelley Ross. Ross reportedly "forced one producer to read an apology to his colleagues and ordered another to reschedule his colonoscopy because it was sweeps month." Page Six also reported that anchor Harry Smith was angry with the production decisions on the morning show.

Today, the New York Times' Bill Carter writes that Ross, who joined "The Early Show" in September, did not work on the show Friday and may be on her way out:

Shelley Ross, the executive producer of CBS's morning news program, "The Early Show," has so alienated staff members on and off camera that she may be ousted from her position within the next few weeks, executives with knowledge of the situation said on Friday.

In addition to management issues — Carter reports that at least eight staffers have left the show since Ross took the helm — Ross is fighting sluggish ratings, where "The Early Show" trails both NBC's "Today" and ABC's "Good Morning America."

To bad Hillary is almost out of this, or she'd have a job with Clinton - but Ross should fit in over at Fox Noise Network...

Not to defend Ross or tantrum-throwing bitches in general, but a colonscopy isn't exactly an emergency procedure. During a sweeps period, it's all hands on deck. The segment producer in question could just as easily rescheduled it after sweeps.

I'm just saying.

Have you ever gone throught the "prep" and then had it rescheduled? Maybe that wasn't the case here, but I can assure you you wouldn't be happy about it if you did.

Ms. Katie Courtic would respectfully disagree with you.

She sounds like a really nasty boss, but "tantrum prone"? Isn't that a bit sexist?

How in the world is that "sexist"? Any jerk of a boss can throw a tantrum.

My family (4 sons) all believe that the "bitch" word is denegrating to all of humanity-- seems as a widowed mom raising my brood (ages 9-15) when their father passed-- I taught them to respect women by never using that word.. I know their father never used that word either-- this is what we should be doing- leading by example... Life is more than an hour or so of SNL on a Saturday night...

Thanks LongIslandlol -

"Bitch" is NOT a term of endearment. I have been trying to make this argument for weeks only to be told otherwise by many women on this site.

Strong, independent women who "get stuff done" do NOT need to be called "Bitch"

Gay people do NOT need to be called "f*9"

African-Americans do NOT need to be called "n!99er"

You do NOT neutralize the word by making it part of the lexicon. You simply dumb down an entire culture and society.

any doubts? hang out at a middle school some day and see how disgusting it is that these kids think these terms are equal to "buddy" or "dork" or "girlfriend" -- lead by example is right!

"ordered another to reschedule his colonoscopy because it was sweeps month."

My gawd this woman is a complete loon. I hope they show her the door ASAP.

qdemn7 -- you obviously have never worked in TV news. You do not take a day off for an elective colonoscopy in Sweeps Month. Shelly Ross is a proven commodity. She is encountering an entrenched society of old-school CBS newsies who are unwilling to do what it takes to create a Number One Morning Show. I say this not because I know her personally, but I've been in the business long enough to know what's she's up against. CBS has had the number three morning show for decades. If CBS throws her under the bus, it will mean they don't want to be number one. If I were Sean McManus, I would tell everyone who's not happy with Shelly to voluntarily clean out their desk and take a hike.

McGrumpy, you're right, I never have and never will work in TV news. BUT, I have had several colonoscopies. Are you an MD too? Then you have no place making a judgement whether it's elective or not. The person might be at serious risk for cancer.

And several people who are "not happy with Shelly to voluntarily clean out their desk and take a hike" have already done so.

This speaks of just how poor a manager this person is.

but...butt "bitch is the new black" but "you have to be a bitch to get things done"...

She has a job waiting for her at the Clinton Campaign.

Tantrums just don't make it nice to go to work. And then, the next thing ya know, the tantrum victims start their own little revolution and then....tantrum girl breaks a blood vessel, the ratings tank, and the show fires her but...it still sucks.

If we start firing all the tantrum prone managers, who'll be left to run things? ;^)

I thought tantrums were what separated the men from the boys?

What's so bad about G%$k2ru21!/@#& TANTRUMS!!!????!!!!

She sounds like a tough leader with experience to me. Where are all the Hillary bloggers to defend her?

Wouldn't Michelle Obama be better suited to handling the bitch department ? She seems to have a lot to bitch about everytime she opens her mouth so she certainly has the experience.

First of all, real leaders lead through positive motivation and team building. Tryants and unstable
people in positions of power engage in wholesale abuse.
As for any correlation with Hillary, Hillary may be many things, (and I believe she is all of many things as alleged), but even Hillary does not bully and abuse anyone but her adversaries. Big difference. Even Hillary treats her staff and associates appropriately. Ms. Ross sees everyone as an inferior
subhuman whipping post. The only people she treats well are those she perceives as being able
to further her upward personal goals.

What we are talking about here is the incarnation of Leona Helmsley with a face lift.

Harry Smith is such a lovely person. I hope CBS realizes what a jewel they have in him. I only watch from time to time because of his genuine authenticity.

I see many similarities here with Shelley's ABC experience. Charlie Gibson also is a
very dear and much beloved man. Shelley back-stabbed him as a matter of policy. He finally
reached the end of his his very long good sportsmanship and went in to David Weston's office
and told ABC that he would not review his contract and work affiliated with Shelley Ross. We see
who was the most valuable asset. Harry Smith is a good and decent man, also much loved.
He is quickly being pushed beyond his typical temperament. As are the rest of the staff.

I've been thinking about what kind of person would work 16-18 hours every day for years,
look like she never eats, and downs tequilla regularly as an office "tradition." That to me
is beyond the description of a dedicated person. That indicates to me that there may be
more to the ranting and inappropriate behavior than meets the eye.

CBS is gaining some press through the Shelley Ross spectacle, but it is the wrong kind
of attention, even for high profile media loving types.

I'll wager that CBS' Early Show will be producing their own informal version of Shelley's (previous embarrassment ) "That was the (producer) that was" , before too long.

song and dance before too long.

so why do the incompetents (and Commercial TV is full of them) always get head producer jobs, when it's obvious from the beginning that they are in over their heads?????
Insecure, panic driven wags who lose their way because they forget that a successful broadcast is the result of a TEAM doing their best. Some high muckey-mucks never grasp that fact.
She's toast.. send her to Faux Noise where yelling and ranting is desirable, if not a business plan.

Yes, but at Fox it is the pundits who do the yelling and ranting!

It's not just the head producer jobs. It could be that there is nothing else to choose from. People with integrity would not work for the corporate-owned MSM in any capacity.

cognito ergo populistae
