Drew Barrymore Announces $1 Million Donation For World Hunger

Today on Oprah Drew Barrymore announced she was donating $1 million to the World Food Programme, to which she is an ambassador.

Charlie's Angel Drew Barrymore is a real-life angel as an Ambassador Against Hunger for the World Food Programme (WFP). The actress decided to take on global hunger after a 2005 trip to the slums of Nairobi, Kenya, where kids live in shacks and often go to school with empty stomachs.

When disasters like the Indian Ocean tsunami strike, people who have lost everything rely on the WFP to deliver food assistance. The WFP is the world's frontline organization in the fight against hunger, and every year, it helps feed more than 70 million people in nearly 80 of the world's poorest countries.

The WFP has a dream--to feed 10 million more children in Africa by Thanksgiving Day. If every Oprah Show viewer gives $50 to help fill a child's cup for a year, they will reach that target.

Even a small donation will go a long way. Porridge, rice or beans--it takes just 25 cents to fill one of the red cups WFP uses to give hungry kids regular meals. This food will not only feed bodies and minds, it will transform lives.
