Hillary: Obama Not Muslim "As Far As I Know"

Via Ben Smith, Hillary gives a less than adamant answer to a question about Obama's religion on 60 Minutes. Hillary claims, "I take him on the basis of what he says. And, you know, there isn't any reason to doubt that." It's an issue where even an accidental slip this can do damage:

To sell oneself as a Christian -- which she does -- and then to deny a fellow Christian's true faith, which she for all intentions has done, is stated in the Bible to be the worst sin...to deny "Him." Imagine if Barack had done this. But because the media has allowed some stories about just how great Barack has been in gathering new voters and his wide appeal -- which by the way IS NEWS -- they have been made to feel guilty and must somehow now help even the score. SNL, owned by same parent as MSNBC, is not telling the true story in their new fained sympathy for poor victimized Hillary and SNL doesn't deserve all the publicity they're getting, which is helping Hillary. And the rest of the media, like stupid lemmings, are taking our country once again over the ditch. She should be broadly condemned when she deserves it. But being afraid to be honest about Hillary -- well it's GW all over again. Is that what the media wants again? A bully and a liar that the press is afraid of? Doesn't our country deserve better? For me that remark "as far as I know" is a major gaffe. It gives credence to all the months and months of us saying she is in control - she allows her peeps to say smeer Obama gossip. She will do anything to win. In my heart of hearts, I don't believe Obama would do anything to win. He will play tough when he needs to, but he certainly hasn't played the games the Clintons have.

I watched that clip. Her "no, no, no" seemed pretty clear and definitive, and she did say she knew what it felt like to be on the receiving end of nasty rumors. So I think people are reading way too much into "as far as I know."

I do feel she did herself a great injustice last night. She, of all people, should know what it is like to have innuendos and inconclusive statements used against her. She was not presidential, she was below the belt sneaky and a great disappointment. It makes you wonder what she will do to win, she has always appeared to have some scruples and character, this was beneath her.

Hil, might I suggest that when running a campaign you get to know your opponent, I can tell you that he is not a Muslim, but practicing Christian. Honestly it doesn't matter to me, but what concerns me is your lack of research - kind of like you not reading NIE on the Iraq war before voting for it. Sorry but I like my elected officials to be completely informed when making decisions and statements that effect the American people. This alone disqualifies you in my opinion.
