Paul Krugman Attacks Obama On Electability

After their victory in the 2006 Congressional elections, it seemed a given that Democrats would try to make this year's presidential campaign another referendum on Republican policies. After all, the public appears fed up not just with President Bush, but with his party. For example, a recent poll by the Pew Research Center shows Democrats are preferred on every issue except terrorism. They even have a 10-point advantage on "morality."

Add to this the fact that perceptions about the economy are worsening week by week, and one might have expected the central theme of the Democratic campaign to be "throw the bums out."

But a funny thing happened on the way to the 2008 election.

If Krugman's goal is to lose audience, I think he's probably doing a pretty good job. He's probably picked up some folks too--people who would normally have no interest in an economics column or the NYTimes may well read him for the pro-Hillary propaganda. If he had been writing this sort of drivel a decade ago, he would not now be writing it for the NY Times.

Good riddance. Fortunately, the Times has no shortage of strong columnists.

Glad to know what "Dukasiked" means. Guess I was among the "unwashed", uninformed", "cult-like" people who support Obama.

Can't figure out Paul Krugman's problem. Is he angry NOT to have been included in the Obama Economic Advisors Team?

It's now apparent the whole "mandated health insurance" argument was just a smokescreen to pummel Obama.

Charm, Oratorical excellence, backed up by solid understanding of the issues are the winning combination that

Mondale, Kerry, Gore and Clinton lack,

but Raygun, Kennedy, Bill Clinton and

Obama have in abundance.

Killary is Dukakis/mondale, she even uses the same ads.

Dukakis got "Dukasised" because he did not respond to attacks forcefully. His main accomplishment was balancing the Massachusetts budget- which after the spending spree of the Reagan years could have been touted enough to win that election. His tank escapade didn't help either, although history will show that it pales in stupidity to the AWOL aviator landing a fighter jet on the warship to announce the end of combat missions in Iraq-MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

Obama has a much sharper mind and tongue than Dukakis. His responses to attacks, thus far, have been delivered with reasoned wisdom and measured ease which has effectively muffled the hysteria that the attacks were supposed to generate before it could get started.

McSame's campaign will be very busy defending all of his flip-flops from the last couple of years. Attacks will be hard to mount when they are always on the defensive.

There are good reasons to vote for anyone running for office. Electability is in the eyes of the beholder.

If I am McCain, I run the 2:00 a.m. ad, with an actress playing Hillary answering the phone and saying:

"He did what? What do you mean she saved the dress? No, let me think....All right I've got it: The dress and everything is all a Vast Right Wing Conspiracy. Get that out. Where is he now? Can't anybody watch him?"

Then I would ask: do you REALLY want them back?

Obama cannot fight against Hillary the way the Republicans will. The Clinton's are our Cross as Democratic Party members, but America is tired of them.

Your personal vendetta aside, you forget two things:

1) Obama follows George Bush while Dukakis followed Ronald Reagan.

2) Obama can play tough Chicago politics against McCain and not against Clinton as she is a woman. He does not want to raise loyalty among female democrats any more!

Obama is better at brainwashing because he has "a voice of authority" and most will never be able to criticize him or make fun of him like we should any politician.

The Europeans, after the German experience, don't like religiosity and don't like self indulgence. That is what they don't like about Americans, in general. Well, now it is also because of the Iraq War but I bet they would say the war grew out of these two things - too much religion and self indulgence in politics.

They make fun of their politicians - and give them power without allegience and certainly without religious fervor.

I think they will soon see Obama as much too religious and self indulgent and therefore will be able to change nothing.

They will see him as more dangerous than Bush.

I once had great admiration for Krugman when he was one of the few journalists criticizing the Bush administration.

But lately he sounds like an old bigoted cranky curmudgeon.

This is why old fashioned liberals will never win. Mr. Krugman seems to prefer a Mondale like candidacy, when we lost 49 states. I cannot think of a candidate that will better unite the Republican party and disregard all the new voters that Obama has brought into the Democratic fold, than to elect Hillary as our nominee.

His recent columns have given me reason to question his other views, since they seem to be colored by irrationality and bias, rather than logical thinking.

It would appear that Mr. Krugman would prefer a Democratic Party that eats its young rather than embrace them.

"The 2008 campaign, it seems, will be waged on the basis of personality, not political philosophy. If the magic works, all will be forgiven. "

No, Mr. Krugman, we'll still think you're a douche.

Well put. We will think he is a douche indeed. You know, I used to like Paul. Now I see he wants to destroy the Democratic Party as well as Clinton does. Imagine: This race is not over until Hillary decides its over. Cant wait until Puerto Rico in June
