Yesterday morning on "Good Morning America," Chris Cuomo explained that Prince Harry was allowed to go to Afghanistan because he is "expendable."

Said Cuomo:

"We all know about Prince William — he's the man, he's the heir. Harry has been over in Afghanistan fighting because he's expendable. ... The reason that Harry is allowed to be in Afghanistan is because he's not the heir to the throne. William's not allowed to be there."

Co-anchor Robin Roberts, for her part, tried to temper Cuomo's comments. Watch:

He should be fired.

Normally I wouldn't waste my time posting about something that won't change anyway. But I'll make an exception in this case.

Reading this reminds me of Frank DeFord's kid "interviewing" Bobby Knight. Finally Knight got sick of it and said, face it kid. You'll never be as good as your old man.

I wonder what Cuomo would say if his dad were serving in Afghanistan and was killed? Would he be "expendible" as well?

Actually, Cuomo looks like he's old enough to sign on the dotted line like my Dad did in 1942 after Pearl Harbour. Dad was 18. Then little worms like Cuomo can judge whether or not a soldier -even that of an ally- is simply *expendable.*

That sort of cynical dismissal of a young man who was not content to merely keep partying while his social "inferiors" risked life, limb, and sanity in Afghanistan actually trying to root out al Qaeda and their fellow travelers, is IMHO about as low as it gets. Wonder if either of the Bush twins or their equally useless cousins would have the guts to do what this young prince has done? I already am pretty certain that *Cuomo* doesn't.

Naw. Never happen with the Bush clan; George Herbert Walker Bush was an aberration, probably a cynical cover for daddy Prescott's war profiteering operations involving trading with the Nazis during time of declared war. I suspect a willing "presstitute" like Cuomo would be right at home in such company.

Guys, get a grip - were you really THAT offended? Puh-leeze. Let's all get offended that our "expendible" men are out fighting an illegal and evil war, and that they, and "expendible" innocent people are getting slaughtered in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Let's face it - I realized that after seeing what our leaders did to U.S. citizens during Katrina, we're ALL expendible. No quotation marks. It's absolutely true. Get offended at that.

Who cares?

This whole three month military vacation was propaganda anyway. Could it have possibly been the royal family that leaked the story to the press?

Maybe Chris is expendable. Though I understand he was simply alluding to the old adage "an heir and a spare".

There was a media blackout on reporting that Prince Harry was deployed in Afghanistan. The following excerpt is taken from:

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/01/business/media/01harry.html?st=cse&sq=prince+harry+afghanistan&scp=3

"Mr. Satchwell.... the executive director of the Society of Editors in Britain... had brokered a top-secret agreement to keep the prince"s presence in Afghanistan out of the cutthroat British papers and off the airwaves to reduce the chances that the prince or his fellow soldiers would become special targets of enemy fighters."

Druge was an arse for reporting it. Personally, I prefer the young Prince Harry. He's HOT, see the photos in the NYT article.

Chris who? That show is still on?

All of us are expendable.

Didn't anyone watch 'Dead Like Me'?

Let's face the fact: Harry was hardly on the "front lines." Oh, his military superiors sent him to the general vicinity of the war, to satisfy his desire to express his machismo. They certainly had no intention of sending him to a battle zone, where he may have actually been harmed or killed. Wouldn't be prudent. Therefore, this argument is groundless from the get-go.

Chris Cuomo is a member of the Lucky Sperm Club whose every job was the result of his father's connections.

Add to that that his own military service record is ZERO and you have the perfect talking head - a big mouth that says anything for publicity and has a personal knowledge of nothing. They should fire his sorry ass.

I find Mr. Cuomo's remarks deeply offensive, in the idea that anyone is expendable. He might try reading
Smedley Butler's book, "War is a Racket". General Butler, I believe, is the only man, to have won, two
Congressional Medals of Honor, and who was known and respected for his vital concern, for the men
who served with him. I doubt that General Butler would have ever been in favor of the Iraq war.

The outrage being espoused at Mr. Cuomo's insensitive remarks regarding Prince Harry's front line military service being linked to the lack of his value to the Royal Family should not surprise anyone in America. Take yourselves back to the days before the completely illegal and unecessary invasion and decimation of Iraq, over 90% of the American people polled approved of the Bush administration and their characterization of our allies from the French, British, Canadian, German, Dutch, and onward as cowards - ofcourse it turned out that our allies were right all along there were no WMD's or connection to Al-Queda - but nonetheless they still came to help us in our hour of need regardless of ridiculous things like renaming French Fries "freedom fries". It is a pattern in America, to value the lives of Americans above the lives of any foreign national, after Pearl Harbour we interned all Japanese American citizens (no trial, no charge, just took their property, and put them in camps), during McCarthyism (this nation deystroyed thousands of innocent famillies and lives), the reign of terror of the perverted J Edgar Hoover at the FBI (setback the Civil Rights Movement, the Womens Rights Movement, and the Human Rights Movement in America). And, today you only have to visit any number of articles on this site to see the complete dehumanizing comments made about other races, religions, and nations - Mr. Cuomo - is not alone unfortunately he is one of a very large group.

I agree AmericanNation. I guess that is why a good many Americans could care less about the Iraqi people or any other people. Some of us are the most giving people you could find on this earth. Then there are the ones that are only interested in their own greed. And unfortunately these are the people that are in power. But the American people, for the most part are so self absorbed and can not be bothered with the suffering of others. We ridicule others for being different and for having a different traditions than ours. We act as if everyone should want to live and believe what we believe. As if we know what is best for the world. How completely arrogant and short sighted. The only time we pay attention to anything that is going on in the world is when it directly affects our lives. So we allowed bu$hco to run our country into the toilet. Because most Americans was scared shitless. I couldn't believe it, grown people was acting like scared children. I never was afraid of outsiders destroying our country. Our own people are doing just fine without help from anyone else. We have become our own worst enemy. The media did their part to get us here with all the lies and cover up.. They are very good at distraction. And lets face it , it didn't take a much to get the sheep to believed what ever they decided to say. I never believed the corrupted media because they are own by corporations and when have big business ever did anything that wasn't self serving. So instead of behaving like the proud people we once were, we gave up our basic freedom to have a FALSE sense of security. And even now, instead of demanding accountability from the people in charge ( including this lame Congress) for sending our children to die in this bogus war bu$co cooked up to become even richer, we rather focus on celebrities, America idol or some other trash TV. American could be great again but we all got to demand it and work for it. I hope things get better and I hope we all wake up before it is too late.

I assume Cuomo meant that Prince Harry is expendable in the sense that there are other capable soldiers that can replace him on the battlefield. I think people are reading much too much into this matter.

Harry is an honorable soldier, but his life is no more or less important than others serving in the military.

No, Chris said why he considered him expendable he was not in line for the throne, therefore not important, or to use his word expendable. I have a word dispicable, in that Chris's comment was dispicable.

I'm afriad you don't understand the Constitution of the U.K. It is a parliamentary monarchy. The royal family is more important than any ordinary family (same said for soldiers) simply because their lives are bound to the state. A constitutional crisis can occur when something touches the royal family negatively such as the death of third in line to the throne. Yes before God we are all equal but in the lives of men and countries some individuals are valued greater than others through no fault or actions of their own.

I'm afraid you don't understand, as a Christian I believe God's law trumps man's law. As fare as I am concerned, the monarchy is no more important than homeless veterans living on the street.

Say what you will, but my mind is set.

What a cheap shot!

I imagine a lot of money has been spent on training Harry for a career in the Military, which is clearly what the guy wants to do.

Anyone hear whether the "blog" that outed Harry is being called to task?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 08:52 PM on 03/04/2008

Actually I think it is an obligation of the Roayals to spend time in the military, it is all part of thier training.

It's a tradition with the Royal family that males not in direct line elect a military career. A recent example is Prince Andrew. Cuomo is obviously to lazy to look up facts before he shoots off his mouth. Harry choose the army but he could have selected RN or RAF. In any event, his decision has little to do with his expandability as Cuomo so crassly describes it..

Chris Cuomo is quite expendable, in my eyes. I used to like his father, but he let us down for some reason. It's too bad the "chip" is not off the "old block," in this case!
