Hillary Clinton Daily Show

Hillary Clinton appeared (via satellite from Texas) on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart on the eve of the crucial Texas and Ohio primaries. The segment began on a humorous note before turning to campaign themes. Stewart opened the interview by saying that "this election is about judgment, and tomorrow is perhaps one of the most important days of your life, and yet you've chosen to spend the night before talking to me." Clinton responded, "It is pretty pathetic." The interview then turned more serious and focused on the race for the Democratic nomination.

The support of Jon Stewart started at the Oscars. So please, don't be suprised by this sometimes funny fellow but not intelligently funny in the line of Jonathan Swift, Oscar Wilde or even Bill Maher. These three have wit. Jon Stewart has not.

If you think Bill Maher is in a league with Swift or Wilde you won't even succeed as a pompous twit.

Strange watching the "It's pathetic" conversation on Greek news, in English, with Greek subtitles.

Remember how Jon Stewart joined the chorus of TV pundits who proclaimed that they, and by extension the American people, were BORED with the 2000 recount? Well, here we have STRIKE TWO.

Wow. 35 years of "experience" and still zero personality.

Then why do people who meet her always say she is charming??? Take your sour grapes elsewhere.

I am sure that she would rather appear on comedy central than make a real comment in the press explaining her failure to vote on the FISA bill or comment on her Dem colleagues selling out to their corporate and GOP masters....

Hillary was out of town when the vote was taken. But Obama was in the senate chamber during the vote on the FISA bill and was recorded as "not voting". He was one of three senators who were in the chamber and chose to not vote. Not only is Obama inexperienced he is congenitally indecisive. Not characteristics one wants in a president.

Wrong, they were both in DC for the vote, it took place during the Potomac primaries, and Obama voted against it while Clinton didn't vote.

I hate to say it, but Jon Stewart blew it. Why invite a candidate the day before a big election but not the other? As smart as Stewart is, he is not above pandering and soft balls (he tossed a couple of those at McCain as well). Bad move.

Because tv is a for-profit business, and there isn't a show on the air that would turn down an interview with a candidate the night before a major vote.

More importantly, TDS is not a news show! It has no obligation to be fair or impartial, and Jon Stewart reminds the audience of that fact all the time. They did absolutely nothing wrong.

(And for the record, I'm an Obama supporter.)

Did anyone watch the same Jon Stewart episode. He was not pandering. He asked her if she was the one who won 11 in a row, would she feel that Senator Obama was being abused if it was suggested that he concede. He also told her not to watch the beginning of the show because he was not going to script it so as not to include her because as someone else said being polite does not mean being disingenuous. There were other digs in the conversation so I wonder for those negative toward Jon Stewart during this episode; did you ever watch him before? It was not his fault that the new media only played the first question.

It is just soooooo cool to be an Obama supporter. It is so much fun to bash Hillary. Even if we have no clue. Too bad Obama's message of hope and unity are wasted on so many of his supporters.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 05:52 PM on 03/04/2008

Well, if it truly is as you see it, then there must be a reason. I would make the parallel of Hillary Clinton supporters are akin to atheists, content with a surface level life and rallied around a superficial cause, whether it be "Hillary as the first woman president", or "Hillary because of Bill", etc. They do not believe in substantive (ie entrepreneurial, high "risk"-high reward) change and have proven that disposition with their vote. Supporters of Obama are more on the side of belief in hope, change, new beginnings and clean slates. The unity that is projected, is not merely rhetoric, but something that is truly felt in the hearts and souls of conscious individuals. From the civil rights movement, and Dr. King's "I have a dream...", we can deduce that real power is not necessarily held in tangible evidence, but rather in substantive and righteous ideals and visions. Obama supporters can laugh at his statements of, "You would think that somehow the American people have been duped...", because the truth has to be felt and not scoffed at. For the record, it is fun to bash Hillary, just like it is fun to bash Bush, because its not that hard, and there are good reasons for doing so. Hardly ANYONE was bashing Bush right after 9-11 remember that? The masks of "patriotism", "feminism" and most "isms" are like hot coals on your eyes...they make you angry at something, but you just can't see what...

Yeah, she did look tired and puffy. These candidates never sleep. She's always had a case of chipmunk cheeks but I think they're cute.

Ok, I am really, truly, seriouly not saying this to be catty, but both my boyfriend and I had the same reaction when she came onscreen last night...

What was going on with her cheeks?

They looked really puffy and/or swollen, like she had an abcessed tooth or infection or something... And she looked like she as having some trouble talking and smiling around it.

(In the interest of balance, Obama had a cold at one of the last debates and sounded and looked terrible. There you go, I'm not just picking on her.)

Anyone else notice?

No, you're not saying this to be catty. What would ever give anyone that idea?

But since we are on the subjects of physical appearance. I was noticing Obama talking on the plane today and I was thinking geez, this guy looks like some kind of rodent, maybe a rat or something, I just couldn't place quite place the reptile or mammal I was thinking of.

But on the interest of balance, Hillary had a hoarse voice the other night and sounded terrible. THere you go, I'm not just picking on him.

Stewart: "So how are you doing in the final days? Are you seeing any difference? Are you getting bigger and bigger crowds? Do you feel you've got the momentum?"

Really, why didn't he just say it. "DO YOU NEED A PILLOW???"

Interesting strategy for Clinton--hitting comedy and talk shows to "humanize" herself, get free media, and avoid any difficult questions. This is working for her, but I think ONLY because Obama doesn't go on the attack. He just keeps focusing on issues and policy--never slinging the dirt like Hillary---leading me to wonder, "What's wrong with you, Senator? Do you WANT TO LOSE?????"

Obama is so not pure. The hateful and hate filled Obama supporters on Huff Po have been scripted by the Obama campaign. You can tell what the talking points for the day are just by reading them. And what about all the scurrilous flyers sent to voters just days before the election by the Obama campaign. Stop the holier than thou BS it does not fool anyone.

I cannot speak for "Independents" but every "Real Democrat" that I know (many!!!) has stated clearly that they will vote for the Dem nominee, whoever that may be. Everyone is focused on the Main Objective: Get the GOP out of the White House and begin the monster task of repairing the horrific damage of the past 7 years.

People that put party before country just don't get it. HRC has more defense contractor contributions than anyone including McCain. She has no intention of stopping the war and her health insurance gift to the HMOs will never get passed. Many Democrats don't see a big difference between HRC and McCain. You might be happy if a Democrat gets into office, purely because you think you have "beaten the bad guys". But truly it's an illusion. There's as many corrupt Democrats as Republicans. The entire system is broken. Republicans are simply more open and upfront with their corruption and make no apologies for it. What's better, open corruption and nastiness, or insidious corruption hidden beneath a false veneer of caring about America? I'd rather deal with the open corruption, because at least I'm not being viewed stupid enough to be conned by the pretense.

That's what you think ! Go to other sites and you will see,. If Hillary is the candidate they aren't voting at all. What she did today and the last few days, is beyond belief. I have been a Democrat all my life, 67 years. Hillary just destroyed our party. There is NO way in hell she would ever get my vote. She is as low as you can go with what she did. I happen to be a so called "Real Democrat !" Hillary will NEVER get the White House, come hell or high water. McCain will beat her so bad, it won't be funny. You will have another 4 years of hell for voting for her.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 04:58 PM on 03/04/2008

You got that wrong. 10, counting just my family will not vote if Hillary wins. Being aware of how corrupt, destructive and manipulative she is not based on anything but watching her in action. Before this campaign she would have been just fine especially with President Bill Clinton as a bonus. Imagine her own party being silenced if they do not agree with her proposals. Imagine her 4 year term being an extended campaign for re-election. Not voting for a person whose main imperative is self-serving can not be just mockingly explained away by those who do not like Senator Obama as being brainwashed or judging on personality as many I see use as the excuse if one is a supporter of Senator Obama. Try thinking for yourself and stop bashing with the same lines about brainwashing or not liking Hillary Clinton because one prefers Obama. (This last line for two does not refer to kellygrrrl. It applies to the truly hateful brainwashed who do not like Senator Obama so must find a reason to explain Obama supporters behavior as hateful, or brainwashed as an extension of Senator Obama. It is getting old.)

why is everyone so mean spirited. Both Barack & Hillary have their good points and their bad points. It is really disheartening when we can do nothing but disrespect these candidates. I don't understand what kind of thrill one gets by trashing a candidate. It is really disgusting.

This shows that John really is just a comedian. He can give Chris Matthews shit for fucking up once in a while, but at least Chris has the balls to put his opinion out there. John looked like a teenage girl meeting whoever the latest teen heart throb is. Hillary has been as full of shit as Bush has been and John just lets her slide because she's on his team.

To be fair, Stewart has never said a nice thing about Hillary on his show, he's just generally polite to all of his guests, even Rick Santorum and John Ashcroft. He's disproportionately made fun of Hillary more than he has Obama during these primaries, and in an interview with Larry King last year he said, "She's just some senator who's famous 'cuz she's married to an ex-president. So what? What's so special about her?" So I think he was just biting his tongue in this interview.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:31 PM on 03/04/2008

He was even polite to Lynne Cheney. Remember the segment "You don't know Dick?" I do think he is polite to his guests unless they really tick him off. Didn't he go after the guy denying global warming?
