Obama Draws Line On Negotiations, Won't Talk To Hamas

Barack Obama - who has said repeatedly that America must meet with its enemies, including the tyrants who lead Iran, North Korea and Cuba - drew the line yesterday in refusing to talk with Hamas.

"They're not heads of state. They don't recognize Israel," Obama told reporters. "You can't negotiate with somebody who doesn't recognize the right of a country to exist."

I too am an independent voter, and an Obama supporter, but I was not happy to read this article this morning. I can see the point that Hamas isn't the internationally recognized leader of the Palestinians, but Hamas was legitimately and democratically elected, and as such should be engaged in negotiation. I have been inside both Israel and Palestinian territories within the past 6 months, and believe me -- these are all just people. They are worth talking to, even if at the beginning most of that talking is disagreement. Continuing to oppress, isolate and ostracize them will not make them less violent or less strident in their opposition to Israel and the United States. All it will do, sadly, is guarantee that the bloody cycle continues.

Obama said he'd meet w/ the Fruitcake Leader of Iran. Iran constantly threatens to wipe Isreal off the map. What's the difference between Hamas and Iran? Another mistake by Obama.

Yep. And he's gonna get asked this over and over.

If the Irish Protestants and British Prime Minister hadn't negotiated with Sin Feinn (who were aligned with the IRA) there wouldn't be peace in Northern Ireland.

If the Palestinians are willing to talk with the bigotted, fascist members of the Likud party who have continued to steal their land and kill their children, then Israel should be willing to speak with Hamas.

And for Obama to take Likud's position is to pre-determine that this massive biggoted human injustice (at the expense of US taxpayer money and credibility) continues throughout the next decade.

There"s a pretext that is repeated every day by rote and subte innuendi and that is absolute crap and hyprocrisy: Hamas must agree to first recognize Israel, second to end all violence, third to accept past agreements. Try to find a mention , anywhere, of the fact that the United States and Israel reject all three of those. They obviously don"t recognize Palestine, they certainly don"t withdraw the use of violence or the threat of it -- in fact they insist on it -- and they don"t accept past agreements, including the road map. And obviously they don"t accept the Arab League proposal or any other serious proposal. In fact they"ve been blocking the international consensus on the two-state solution for decades. But Hamas,Hezbolla, whomever has to accept them ! If the tide was turned would the Israeli's fight, of course ! If someone invaded the US, would we fight, hell yes! It's time to end Israels discredited and misguided policies. Palestinians are under military occupation and they have the right to defend themselves against Israel by any means necessary and that includes archaic rockets.

MR. HOPE FLIP-FLOPS AGAIN!

I never liked Bill Clinton, but when George W. Bush came into power, I gained a new found respect for Bill Clinton's White House administrations. By the same token, I never liked Hillary Clinton, but the more that *I have* payed attention to Sen. Obama's full political record -- that the media at large has mostly ignored -- I find myself - -as a white American male with a strong believe in civil rights for all Americans -- gaining more respect for Hillary Clinton.

Over the weekend, Hillary Clinton, in conference call, received the support of many highly ranked military officials, which clearly has added to my newly found respect for Hillary Clinton.

I'm sorry Obamabots, but the more I listen to Sen. Obama, the more it feels like we are all in some kind of 'twilight zone purgatory' in which we are trapped in a used car lot subjugated to a hard sale from Sen. Obama to the point of ad nauseam!

I'm sick of Sen. Obama's one-sided B.S. in slamming Sen. Clinton in his 'so-called right judgment on Iraq' ... when it is all too clear that Sen. Obama *didn't* show right judgment in:

1.) Obama: "No difference" between Bush position on war and his own (Chicago Tribune, 07/04)

2) Obama: "Doesn't know" how he would have voted on war vote (Chicago Tribune, 10/04)

3) Obama: , Obama praised newly-elected President Bush's new nominee for Secretary of Defense, Donald Rumsfeld. ( WTTW11:Chicago Tonight, 01/17/ 01)

When it came to George W. Bush, I preferred Bill Clinton. When it comes to answering that White House call at 3:00 a.m., I clearly prefer Hillary Clinton over Sen. Obama!

And let's not forget the Obama tools who confuse their brand of emotionally immature vitriol with an actual argument with a reasonably acceptable semblance of credibility; with each passing day the Obamabots resemble the typical Faux News viewer.

Kind of off the subject, but I found it very insulting to see Iran's President getting the red carpet treatment in Iraq the other day. The two hugging and patting each other on the back. I certainly hope people who plan to vote for McBush in November remember this.

Good for Obama!

Why talk to terrorists who have no regard for international opinion, or the lives of innocent civillians!
Hamas and their fellow travellers danced and celebrated in the streets when thousands lost their lives in the Twin Towers, they would do it again, some people have short memories!

Actually, my Israeli apologist propagandist, it was MOSSAD AGENTS who danced in the streets of New Jersey as they FILMED the towers collapse. I guess they KNEW it was going to happen and were prepared. The story is here..... http://www.whatreallyhappened.com/fiveisraelis.html

His ENTIRE freakin mantra is that "he's not afraid to talk to anyone in promoting America's interests". And now he's made an EXCEPTION that is illogical. It doesn't make sense. He won't be able to articulate why this should be an exception to his rule. Hamas officials were elected by the majority of the Palestinians in an election we oversaw. The Carter Center was there monitoring.

If the media pundits don't start asking him if he is pandering to the Israel Lobby then they are once again failing the American people.

Hamas is not the head of state to Palestine - Abbas is. Not talking to Hamas != not talking to Palestinians.

They have an elected governing majority. And now we learn that the Bush Administration armed fatah militants after the elections to create a civil war in the occupied territories. The people had spoken and Obama needs to address the peoples' representatives.

When the AIPAC, AEI and other extremist Zionist fifth columnists in America say to ANY CANDIDATE; "JUMP", they are forced to reply "How high sir ?" "thank you, may I have another"............Truth and our national honor have been trashed by this powerful and deceitful lobby. Obama is only the latest to feel their wrath and be forced to capitulate.

Our nations political process and foreign policy have been subverted by the treasonous Pro-Israel at any cost crowd and the decisions made by our governments have NOT been in the best interests of OUR NATION, or real peace and stability in the ME!
The Israelis and their agents in America will continue to stall any "peace" effort and maintain the brutal and dehumanizing illegal occupation until they destroy any possibility of a "two state solution".

When will some leader of courage brave the instant cry's of "anti-semite" and speak truth to the brutal pro-Israel occupation/colonization and those who wage war for twisted ideology, land, water and greed?

Carter did and the entire Israel Lobby (AIPAC, Dennis Ross, Wolf Blitzer from CNN, Abe Foxman and the ADL, Alan Dershowitz, JINSA, Columnists from the Washington Post, NY Times, etc..) went on one of the most dispicable demonizing/slandering jobs I've ever witnessed.

They basically tried to tar and feather Jimmy Carter (founder of Habitat For Humanity, winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, former U.S. President who has done more to achieve peace for Israel than any other human being )as an anti-Semite. I guess they figured that if they could silence Jimmy Carter by demonizing him as an anti-Semite then NO OTHER POLITICIAN would dare speak about truth and justice when it comes to Palestine/Israel.

Right you are. Beside trashing Prez Carter the pro Israel crowd demonized the Walt-Mearsheimer Report on subversion of our foreign policy and political process by Israel and pro-Israeli agents/groups. Read it here...

The referenced story is from the New York Post.

Even though I myself realize that the term "reputable news organization" has become an oxymoron, I still believe that it would behoove us to see if this story is confirmed by a less disreputable news organization.

(If true, it's wrongheaded and unfortunate of Obama to take this foolish position.)

Why isn't anyone pointing out the THOUSANDS that have died on both sides because Hillary Clinton and John McCain authorized the biggest blunder in American history by invading Iraq?

It's not just a VOTE them made - it's about what happened AFTER that vote!

Obama just caved in to Israeli extremist pressure on this. He will do more of the same once he becomes your President. More war, more violence, more lies. Hillary will be his VP and the cesspit that is America will continue to rot and decay. The stupidity and cowardice of the American people is unprecedented in world history.
