Exit polls from Ohio suggest that Sen. Hillary Clinton's last minute aggressive campaigning against Sen. Barack Obama may have been effective in holding off his possible come-from-behind victory.

Clinton won 55 percent of those voters who made up their minds in the last three days, according to MSNBC's numbers. Traditionally, voters have gone to Obama's camp as the election approaches, either because of his momentum or because of his increasing name-recognition. (Voters who make their minds up on the very last day, however, have usually supported Clinton).

Clinton's attacks on Obama's position on NAFTA may also have had their desired effect. Union households in Ohio supported Clinton by a margin of 54 percent to 45 percent. In addition, 58 percent of voters whose family incomes were between $15,000 and $30,000 supported Clinton compared to Obama's 41 percent. Finally, those worried about their financial situation supported Clinton 52 percent to 47 percent.

Not all of the New York Democrat's attacks proved effective, according to the exit polls. Clinton's argument that her experience will help her produce change (more so than Obama) seemingly fell on deaf ears. Seventy-three percent of those Ohioans who valued a candidate's ability to affect change the most supported Obama.

And, as ABC News reported:

The ability to "bring needed change" beats "experience" as the most important quality in a candidate by about a 20-point margin in Ohio and by about 15 points in Texas, according to preliminary exit poll results.

Other highlights from the exit poll data include:

-- Republicans and independents again flocked to Obama but by margins that did not exceed 10 percent.

-- Fifty-three percent of Ohio voters thought Obama was the strongest of the Democratic candidates to beat John McCain.

-- Clinton continued to have a strong lead over Obama among women, 54 percent to 45 percent. Obama bested her among men but by a smaller margin: 52 percent to 47 percent. Women outnumbered men in the Democratic primary, 59-41, making their support for Clinton all the more significant.

Whites flocked to Clinton by a large margin: 61 percent to 38 percent. Clinton carried white men, 54-45, a setback for Obama who had been winning, sometimes by decisive margins, white men in such states as Maryland, Virginia, California and Wisconsin. Blacks, who made up 19 percent of the exit poll, continued to support Obama by huge margin: 89 percent to 11 percent.

After the lying - slimey bullshit Clinton pulled this past week I don't believe I could ever vote for her and I know my 4 sons will never vote for her - not this year, next year, or in a hundred years. So, if she's the nominee - I guess we're out. I'm sure millions of others feel the same way and McCain will be our next President.

Yes, you are absolutely correct. Its time to throw the clintons under the bus, she does not deserve our support. The karl rove slash and burn politics has now become a democratic value.
If we survived bush for 8 yrs, we can survive mccain for 4.

If we believe the media’s current spin, Hillary won because of last minute negative campaigning.

If Brother Obama has been tripped up by Sister Hillary, how will he fare when confronted with the Republican Party’s slime machine in full vigor– which will make her attacks look like marshmallows?

It may be one thing to walk on water and quite another to walk on molten lava.

And its quite another to use lies to win. And you wonder why our kids are cheating?

Its become a national past time....say anything, do anything to win.

So the same group of white women who put Bush back in the White House in 2004 because he made them feel safe, gave Hillary Texas and Ohio last night. Yeah WHITE WOMEN!!!

And the same lies and smears that Karl Rose used against Democratic nominees in 2004, Hillary shamlessly used against Obama. Yeah HILLARY!!!

The Clintons are dirty and they play dirty games with money. She needs to get blown out of the water before Pennsylvania. And she needs to be identified for the corrupt, divisive pol that she is. Get cracking, people. There's too much at stake.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 06:13 AM on 03/05/2008

Exactly. They will do anything, say anything.

Obama, however, should have come back with a better ad. Perhaps something like, "it's 3am and my son or daughter is dying in Iraq"? Or "it's 3am and I'm worried because I'm about to lose my house. The economy is tanking because America is in a war we cannot afford"? He needs to hit hard with her "status quo" votes on Iraq and remind people that NAFTA was a product of Bill Clinton's administration, which to hear Hillary's spin was HER administration as well. Go after Bill's record if she's going to campaign on it. Remind people that the golden age of the Clinton's was ridiculed with scandal and corruption. Remind the people that she is getting her money from special interest groups, not individual voters.

Come on Obama, black is the new black. (I know that last line doesn't make sense, but it felt like the right thing to say.)

Hey, no sweat; after Hillary gets wiped out in the general election, Obama can run in 2012, when the country is more tired of Republican bankruptcy than afraid of imaginary terrorists. Politics mirrors society, and all the ignoramuses in Ohio who lost their jobs because they are UNEDUCATED voted for another liar who told them what they wanted to hear, and against that Negroe who epitomizes the blacks they think stole their jobs (not their Republican bosses). This country is on a downward spiral!

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 06:59 AM on 03/05/2008

I think you have this backwards.

Clinton knows she cannot get the nomination legitimately. Therefore the Billary strategy is to destroy Obama so that he will lose in November & Hillary can get the nomination in 2012.

Screw the country...
Screw the party...
Anything for the Clintons...

" all the ignoramuses in Ohio who lost their jobs because they are UNEDUCATED "

Spoken like a true "Country Club Republican".

" and against that Negroe who epitomizes the blacks they think stole their jobs "

No, all those good paying jobs were sent to Mexico, not Africa. So why would the voters hold that against a black man?

As long as the Democrats continue to nominate corporate puppets like Obama or Clinton, they will lose elections. Obama is just another Republican in sheeps' clothing. He does not support Universal Health Care, he told the Canadians he will continue to support NAFTA, and if you think he supports abortion rights, why did he vote, 50% of the time, "present" on abortion rights legislation while in the Illinois legislature?

Like Harry Truman said, "If you give the people a choice between a fake Democrat and a real Republican, they will vote for the real Republican every time."

It seems that, considering the amount of information out there, people that "just decided in the last 3 days" who they were going to vote for don't exactly fall into the "brain surgeon" category.

So Clinton should rejoice that she found a way to court the stupid people!

In the last week Clintion ran a fear tactics ad and a fake news announcement that told only part of the truth. In the last week most of the voters decided for whom they would vote. Ergo, negative campaigning works. It wins elections.

But nobody bothered to ask those voters what factor led them to their decision. Without that this idea that slinging the shit works is only an unsubstantiated assumption. But all the "experts" have concluded.

So, can you imagine what we are in for during the next seven weeks until Pennsylvania? The shit is going to be flying every where. It is going to exponentially uglier than anything we have encountered before.

It doesn't matter who gets the nomination now. This Party is going to be so ripped apart there is no way it can win in November.

Would all you Obama supporters and all you Clinton supporters back off from each other? Take some very deep breaths. Consider what you want to happen in November and what are you willing to do to insure McCain does not win?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 02:59 AM on 03/05/2008

Good, then they should work equally as well for John McCain when he turns around and uses them against her come November.

Hillary said the vote to go to war shouldn't matter at this point -- That's good for McCain

Hillary said experience is of vital importance when considering a President -- That's good for McCain

Hillary said Americans should elect someone who can be trusted to handle a crisis and protect or national security -- That's good for McCain

To sum up what Hillary said Americans should vote for an experience and tested President who can wether any situation or crisis, and their past judgement regarding the war should not be an issue. Simply put, we should all vote for McCain.

If her attacks worked, that says a lot about voters in Ohio, Texas, and Rhode Island. Her campaign has used a picture of Obama in a turban, whined and complained about the press, fear tactics, and reverse sexism. And by the breakdowns of exit polls, voter demographics and anecdotal interviews it seems after 9 months of campaigning most voters in these states are still ignorant about who the candidates are, and are voting out of racism and identity.

And for a minute, we all thought America was gonna surprise us.

Right rob....surprise, surprise! Our country is still racist! Now where's the surprise in that?!
More than likely, Obama won't win this nomination, as the clintons will strong arm the superdelegates using the 'big' states.
Its time we throw the clintons under the bus like they have the rest of us. I'm sick of them and do not want to see them BACK in the white house.
They have already told me they don't need my vote, and I don't have a problem not giving it to them.

Thx OH and TX AND RI, y'all keep repeating 'President McCain' how stupid!
If Ohio thought NAFTA was bad, just wait....McCain has another trade agreement he thinks y'all might like.

The deal is this. Republicans and the Clintons know how to win. They know how to define the opponent. Obama has to define her. He also has to redefine himself, and reintroduce himself. What does he do about white woman, lower middle class problem? He has to stand up. He has to call her out. He has to FIGHT.

I get an opportunity daily to talk to lots of folks. Every one is a parrot. Last 3 days I have seen the most dramatic change. All the independents and republicans have completely stopped moving towards him. Every one is saying he has no experience. All the white women are back with her. He has to fight back hard on the experience, speeches only, paper tiger impression. His character is also under attack. People are showing doubts. Redefining his followers as a cult, kids, stupid, and zombies has been very effective. People are not ready to be part of a cult.

All this has to change now or it is all over.

When you are an uneducated paper mill worker, who is about to have your house foreclosed because your job moved to China, you're still going to vote for the candidate that your minister tells you isn't a Muslim, and who at least knows the words to the Star Spangled Banner and will take an oath of office on the Bible. Oh, and who is NOT black.

If Ohio is a microcosm of the whole US, as the talking heads kept saying, God help us.

Aggressive? That's being kind. (taking a page out of Hillary's book) Why don't you "call a spade a spade? Negative. She went negative. In fact, she is approaching borderline racist.

And she was rewarded for it.

I thought the Democratic party was above that. She took a page out of Karl Rove's playbook and the suckers were hiding under the bed at 3 am.

Hillary played the race card. Obama is black. Blacker than you thought. Do you want a black man in the Whitehouse? And I can't honestly tell you he's not a Muslim.

Apparently the only states that count are the ones that Hillary wins. The rest of you can just go home. You don't count.

I find it interesting that those who are unhappy with the primary results so freely demonize Sen. Clinton and insult the voters who voted for her. Democracy is only good when things turn out your way? Obama voters are pure and righteous. Clinton voters are evil and ignorant. And just because Mr. Stein has proclaimed that Clinton's "attacks" were what pushed Ohio into her column, doesn't necessarily make it so. What sheep. "Obama goo-oo-ood. Hillary baaa-aaa-aad." Such simpleminded childishness. What would happen if everybody stopped shouting and started talking, rationally? Nah, that'll never happen.

Dirty tricks do work. Obama has to fight back or he will lose to McCain. If he cannot define the conversation of the media he has already lost. People like to fixate on carnage and fear, so Obama has to figure out how to trump that.

Hillary is not going to give up without roughing up Obama, and Obama must figure out how to turn it against her. Obama has to be open about this Riz factor, and he has to fire the guy that strayed to canada, or he will lose credibility.

Its a dog eat dog world, and Obama has to prove he can face it and grow from it.

To all those that are whining about dirty tricks - Obama knows how to use those very well. Have you forgotten his accusing the Clintons of racism - the Clintons who have worked all their lives for racial equality. What a lie that was and is.

Don't worry about Obama, he has shown he can use the dirtiest of tricks and will. He is a politician above all, and he knows how to play the game. He's been playing it all along but apparently many haven't noticed.

And there we have another clinton talking point....Obama is a racist, Obama used the race card.

That's a bunch of bullshit a mile long, and the clintons are at the end of that mile. The clintons let blacks know they don't need their vote.

As a former member of the Republian "church", I find it very interesting that liberals appear to share some of the same pathologies.

One's chosen candidate is the candidate of light. My candidate's opponent is the candidate of evil and ignorance.

And in the quest for maintenance of doctrinal and/or ideological purity, I will destroy my own party's chances to win the election.

I guess it's true what they say about democracy - it's the one system where the population truly gets the rulers it deserves.

McCain and Hillary are twins. Sell-outs, so anxious to get the nomination they will do and say anything. Think the Republicans fixed the Diebolds-isn't it a coincidence that they hand-pick the Democrat they want to oppose each time(Kerry, Hillary). Perfect-the Stepford Wives have begun in politics.

And we should all be good little robots and vote for McCain or his twin Hillary. If you think great campaign tactics made the change in Texas or Ohio, you might be sadly mistaken.

All the the cheating was set-up, favors from the Republicans who are so good at it. and then they come in for the sweep in Nov. No difference. Do believe African-Americans and all the voters who wanted Obama were literally cheated-something was wrong about Texas and Ohio. Ohio had voter suppression, looks like cheating is not going to stop as long as Republicans and compromised Democrats are more interested in money and power than serving the people.

Let me explain something to the bigwigs of our campaign. Chicken sink strategy, means that they are redefining our candidate, putting doubts in the minds of independents, late deciders, and makes them feel ashamed to join the cult of ignorant, zombies.
If we do not want to call it negative campaigning, then call it “bringing out the truth". REMIND THE DEMOCRATS OF ALL THE DIRT THE REPUBLICANS ARE GOING O THRO HER WAY.
If the perception that she is experienced is not challenged then it is over for Obama.
How about fighting Hillary Clinton before starting a run against McCain?
How about defining her experience as first lady as a hostess as shown in the movie SICKO. EVERY DAY HIT HER EXPERIENCE HARD. MAKE FUN OF IT. CALL HER A LIAR ON IT. BUT HAVE TO BREAK THIS PERCEPTION.
Start a new campaign about his accomplishments as a senator.
How about forgetting about the community organizer line, everyone knows that, and talk about the health care work done in the Illinois senate.
If she has the solutions then what solution does she have to keep Bill Clinton’s ----- in his pants? ( point : remind the democrats what the republicans will do ).
She is a fighter, come up with a strategy to show obama as a fighter and a leader.
Come up with a plan to define her in Pennsylvania.
Figure out a way to get back into press. Show up on every possible news show.
Just remember, the Clinton campaign now has the money to compete. And Hillary will put on her charm; a strategy that is new is needed. A kitchen sink version from Obama team is now needed. Zeusthunderbolt.
