American Airlines

A major airline is under fire from environmentalists for flying an aircraft across the Atlantic with only five passengers on board.

The flight from Chicago to London meant that the plane, a Boeing 777, used 22,000 gallons of fuel.

Friends of the Earth said it was 'obscene' to waste so much fuel flying an almost empty plane

It led to American Airlines being accused of reckless behaviour by green lobby groups.

The latest "eco- scandal" flight took place on February 9 after American was forced to cancel one of its four daily services from Chicago to London.

While it was able to find places for nearly all the passengers on the fully-booked flight, five still had to be accommodated. Those who did fly were upgraded to the business class cabin.

But while they enjoyed lavish hospitality, the airline was accused of an "obscene waste of fuel" by Friends of the Earth.

Breaking news! Millions drive to corner store just to get cigarettes and beer! Environmentalists strangely silent!

Yes and millions more drive to movie theaters every weekend to see films starring and promoted by "eco friendly" celebrities (who fly to London on private jets all the time...

Environmentalists can't be telling each and every human to stop polluting. All they can do is tell to every one that the planet is in trouble... Finally the destiny of all living things (including humans) is up to the amount of EGOISM in humans... like yourself.

Here ye! Here ye! Thank you for helping put things into perspective. Not only do we ALL waste tons of stuff ALL the time, but who in their right minds thinks the airline (especially those employees working the flight) somehow applauded the move? I'm hoping that there were extenuating circumstances that caused the powers that be to make the decision to send the plane off with only five passengers.

What the story failed to mention was that those were the only five people in the US that, at this point, can afford to go to Europe let alone England and buy anything.

The questions that should be asked, "Who were the five passengers on board?" "What was the cargo?", "Why was it so important to get them or the cargo to London?"

Got Rope?

The real scandal is that the 5 people were:
Al Gore, Madonna, Nancy Pelosi, Joe Wilson, and a clown named "Bobo"

Scandal? I thought that it was perfectly legal for a company that owns an airplane, pays for fuel, and files a legal flight plan to fly their plane any freaking place they want to fly it...

This "environmental/global warming" crap is so ridiculous. Call the Planet police!! Why don't you ECO-FASCISTS mind your own business...

Ha! Those 5 people had a comfortable flight, but how much would they have to spend on carbon offsets to cancel that flight?

No, the way things work on airlines nowadays, some poor bastard was probably still stuck in a middle seat. In economy class.

I thought Expedia or one of those other travel websites was where ya go to get these kinda of seats-cheap readily available and empty.

Likely that they needed the equipment in London and would have flown the flight empty.

I agree. The flights coming this direction are probably much fuller since the euro goes a lot farther in America.

BA flew one client from Hong Kong to London so as to get the plane back to London for other clients

40 some odd people flew private jets across the country yesterday from this destination to that, and the LSD taking green liberal army wants to bash on a corporation for the sake of bashing on a corporation. Lies perpetrated by the man to keep a brother down...
