French women are becoming increasingly assertive in their sexual habits, while one-in-five younger French men "has no interest in sex", according to one of the most comprehensive surveys of the nation's love lives.

Women now have more than twice as many partners as they did in the 1970s, according to the study by the French Aids research agency, which is backed by the government.

"Are women just like men?" asked Le Nouvel Observateur yesterday, which released extracts of the Study on Sexuality in France, a 600-page tome that brings together 12,000 in-depth interviews with people of all ages conducted during 2005-06.

One of the biggest changes in recent years, according to the report, was that male and female sexual behaviour had become increasingly similar.

Carla Bruni, the new wife of French president Nicholas Sarkozy, is one of HuffPost's fave frenchies. Her thoughts:

Female sexual emancipation has been a hot topic in France ever since President Nicolas Sarkozy met Carla Bruni, the Italian model and singer. The couple married last month.

Ms Bruni recently declared monogamy "terribly boring" and spoke in relaxed fashion about her numerous past conquests, including Mick Jagger and Eric Clapton.

"I am a tamer [of men], a cat, an Italian", she told Le Figaro last year.

"I am faithful... to myself. I am monogamous from time to time but I prefer polygamy and polyandry [its female equivalent]."

Well that clinches it. I'm moving to France. Sexually assertive women and one fifth of the young men taking themselves out of the game? What a country!

WTF?

Who is the idiot who wrote this headline?Do you mouthbreathers have any concept whatsoever of the meaning of the term "sexual predator"?

Amen.

HuffPo, I've liked you very much for all you do in clarifying the political scene, but loose and irresponsible -- read "sensational" headlines anywhere on the site don't help the progressive cause, let alone support the realistic and human-sensitive view that our world so desperately needs.

A "sexual predator" is commonly known to be a person who commits criminal acts on innocent and unsuspecting victims. This is a very ugly concept to be tossing around and relating to an article of mild social observation and content -- on a webpage called "Living," for goodness sake!

This headline is absolutely off-base and a terrible insult to French women, all women and all thinking people.

Please honor yourselves and your readers by being unfailing good journalists-- and keep a good reputation by tagging your stories with appropriate headings. That's basic.

It was a heading taken directly from The Times article which was probably a bad translation to begin with.

Lighten up.

Where is the pic of the naked man laying down showing his ass?? Will never happen because women are so accepted as objects, its second nature to post a nude woman pic, and it gets a pass. I dont want to see her ass I want to see a man's ass!!! I will wait for the male sex article and see if they have the artistic male shot!

The new sexual predators? Think it's been that way for some time now, but then again, in a sexually repressed country like America, it might be news!

France has a better healthcare system.
And now it sounds like better women.
If there are any French women reading this and in need of a houseboy, please respond.

Au revoir, cold, calculating, bitter, shallow, high-expectation/high-maintenance American gals!

Can we be defined as "prey" when we want to be caught in some French woman's love nest.

To be used solely as a physical specimen by a French woman, I can not think of anything worse or can I?

French women are civilized and intelligent. They are getting over the victim role women like to play when it comes to sex. There is no science that say men enjoy sex more than women, on the contrary, women are more sensual and sexual than men. So what happens when you suppress such high sexual energy? Cancer (Ovarian, breast e.t.c) It is about time society caught up with science, and stopped demonizing natural and pleasurable act ( sex).

Are you kidding? This is utter trash. Being French I find it quite disturbing that you would make one general statement of all French women. Second, to liken a women being assertive in her sexual desires to a sexual predator? I'm sure you are going to say this is "tongue in cheek" huh? Oh don't get me started on THAT ONE! What crap. I'm assertive and it's because I know what I want and I don't mess around, that does not make me a predator, nor anything close. Nor does it mean that I'm out looking for a romp in the sack with some dude either. For Shame for having this on your site, even if it was written by someone else, it is disinformation at best and probably based on some "scientific study" of 3 women and maybe the author's anecdote of some trashy "spring break" trip. Hardly, "proof" of anything. And who by the way is choosing the "HUFFPOST PICKS" I'd be embarrassed by the few you chose here. "I'm moving to France" oh that's so witty. I would have never thought some dude would say that in a million years. Nope, never.

I agree whole heartedly! i was looking for a post that echoed my sentiments, and this is it. It takes alot of nerve to go from "French women are more sexually active now than they were thirty years ago" to "sexual predators". Utter CRAP - also painting with a broad brush, stupid stereotyping, and a generally rather vapid commentary on a monumental study.

I think of American women as being more brazenly aggressive, whereas French women are simply self-assured (whether they are more sexually active or not).

I prefer French women for myriad reasons. Among them, the simple things: a healthier lifestyle, a keener sense of design, a more well-rounded education. The fact that, in France, women will meet your eyes with equanimity and a direct regard, devoid of the neurotic gamesmanship that plagues American society.

to the French, sexuality is not a power struggle or a game - it is just a normal part of life

I was just with a French woman this last w/e .. ou la la! sooo much better than American women ... subtlety, sensuality etc., etc. They've always been my favorites.
