Pelosi Pipe Down

San Francisco Chronicle:

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi urged both leading Democratic presidential candidates to cease their bickering, warning that the escalating rhetoric could hurt the party's chances in November.

"I would encourage both of them, as I have, to remember we have to keep our eyes on the prize, which is the general election in November," Pelosi said Friday at a luncheon in New York sponsored by Lifetime Networks and the Hearst Corp., parent company of The Chronicle.

"We are all very passionate about our politics and the issues we believe in, but we have to be very dispassionate about how we approach winning. We have to lift the debate to a place that does not turn off the American people."

Nancy, when you grows a spine and stand up to Bush; then you can give advise.

OUCH!!! Thank You for stating this. It must have taken a lot for her to get the gall to say this. I can see Dem leaders in a fetal position before they meet the press saying "I don't wanna speak up! Its just soooooo hard!"

Good luck with that one. It's already gotten toxic enough that supporters on both sides are now claiming they'll support John McCain, who they agree with on basically nothing. The sad thing is they are missing the opportunity to attack John McCain in tandem and make it almost impossible for him to respond to both of them.

They can't attack McCain, because Hillary has already endorsed him over Obama. If She can't win, the democratic party and Obama be damned.

What worries me is that it is too late for civility to return. The time passed when Edwards, Biden, Richardson, Pelosi, Gore, etc., etc., could have endorsed one candidate or the other. Had they, either Senator Clinton or Senator Obama would have won the nomination by now.

I believe you are right on. That is the problem with the dems, they are afraid to stick their necks out, always playing the game. Had their been more endorsements long before super Tuesday, yes this would have been over. Dems have not gotten the message that we want change. Start showing leadership particularly Howard Dean. All of this negative campaign coming from the Clintons has to stop. We will not win in November Mr. Dean if this continues. I for one can't handle another 4 years from 100 more years McCain. Mr. Dean take Hillary up on her slogan, give her some solutions so she can return to the senate. New York needs her, they voted for her again.

All due respect to Pelosi, but she is off base. This incident with Samantha Power just happened--after weeks of negative and abusive campaigning by Sen. Clinton. This is not really bickering. This is one candidate bashing another, with very negative impact on the party and the race. And she's right about one thing. There are many of us out here who are not going to vote for Clinton even if she gets the nomination. We only got involved in order to vote for Obama. He will, of course, give all of his support to the nominee no matter what. But a lot of us see the very problems we seek to eliminate from our government being personified by Hilary Clinton and her tactics. So it might be better strategy on Pelosi's part to nip the Clinton campaign in the bud and spell out what is and is not allowed.

Obama (Clinton is responsible for the murder of Bhutto, Walmart, being likeable enough, etc) and in particular the Obama supporters have been really, really bitchy

Pelosi, the one you need to talk to is Hillary. She's the one behaving like a spoiled brat and is the one who thinks it's OK to endorse the Republican nominee if that's what it takes to defeat Obama.

LMAO!! what a joke

you fail to look beyond pundit spin and look to the real reason

she is positioning her self as the democratic equivalent to John McCain......in turn it HURTS McCAIN

If you think thats true, I think you are alone. If that was her strategy, it went right over my head. I saw her endorse McCain over Obama. Plain and Simple....

... And Disgusting.

If thats ture, she tried to detroy Obama in the process. What happens if she is not the nominee and Obama is? I can see it now. Even Hillary Clinton endorsed McCain called him presidential and called Obama just a speech.

Yes. And we are going to win those purple states with ONLY democrat support. Gimme a break. A candidate that appeals to independents will be the next president. Hillary is not that candidate.

But democrats are suppose to vote for the nominee in the blue states regardsless, right. So it seems like whoever the nonimee is the blue states will vote for them. Has a democrat ever lost a blue state because their candidate didn't win?

I call BS. Not only does he respect women, he also respects the sanctity of the election process enough to not destroy his party to win.

Why hasn't she said anything before now...Hillary has been running around like a mad woman and nobody in charge open their mouth. And why would she say Obama may not win, he's in the lead so how can he not win unless they have already decided to give the nomination to Hillary.
