Tucker To Journalist That Got Power Fired: "It's A Little Much Being Lectured On Journalistic Ethics By Someone From The Scotsman"

WOW: Today Tucker Carlson welcomed (er, "welcomed") British journalist Gerri Peev — aka "The Scot Heard 'Round The World" thanks to today's incendiary piece in The Scotsman wherein she quoted Barack Obama advisor Samantha Powers calling Hillary Clinton a "monster" — and the two mixed it up but good.

Tucker began from the presumption that Peev had deliberately printed a comment that was off the record; Peev maintained that anything was fair game after the parties had agreed to start and the tape recorder was rolling. Tucker thought Powers' request for clemency ought to have been good enough; Peev sniffed: "Are you really that acquiescent in the United States?" Then cameth the smackdown from Tucker: "Since journalistic standards in Great Britain are so much dramatically lower than they are here, it's a little much being lectured on journalistic ethics by a reporter from The Scotsman."

Due to satellite delay, the audience got a chance to react (i.e. mouth dropping open) before Peev did; watch for her arch "Really!" as Tucker keeps talking/insulting her. Responded Peev: "If this is the first time that candid remarks have been published about what one campaign team thinks of the other candidate, then I would argue that your journalists aren't doing a very good job of getting to the truth." Ouch.

Watch it and squirm along with the rest of us below:

On MSNBC Friday, Tucker Carlson had it out with the journalist behind the Hillary is a "monster" story over journalistic ethics. http://link.brightcove.com/services/link/bcpid1446831610http://www.brightcove.com/channel.jsp?channel=1178199204

Tucker is not my favorite, howerver, I thought his slam was well placed. Let's face it, the way Samantha Power was targeted by the HRC campaign was pathetic. Imagine, calling someone a "monster" in 2008! Wait, this wouldn't have anything to do with a Pultizer Prize that Ms. Power's recieved for a book that dared to question the politics of another Clinton....would it? No, that just couldn't be possible, we all know how the MSM targets poor Hillary. Taking out Samantha Power will be considered a just reward for the infamous "Clinton Machine." I hope at least 1/2 of the world sees the absurdity of this, and I wish that the Obama Campaign would have just stood by Ms. Power and laughed it off. SNL calls her a bitch (in a good way?) and it's humor.....Samantha Power calls her a "monster" and it's an international incident. "Shame on you" HRC. No matter what I think of Tucker, he deserves major points for slamming this journalist.

Me, I'm hung up on: "What is the big deal about calling Hillary Clinton a monster?"

Is "monster" not P.C. enough?

If that is the case, then I propose that we all describe her as a "morally-challenged denizen of an alternative dimension".

Sorry but I'm with Tucker on this one. She was just trying to make a name for herself and start some controversy. It was uncalled for and served no purpose otherwise to print a comment that someone stated was off the record. I hope she never gets another interview for the remainder of her career.

Right on, Tucker! Anyone looking to hire a rogue journalist might want to consider Peev, for she will soon be looking for work.

Really? You think so? And you're a journalist? An individual who has actually studied and practiced journalism?

NNN. Wrong answer.

Didn't think so.

Way to go Peev!

Although I agree Tucker is completely wrong in this instance, I also show no respect for the Scotsman journalist in this case. The woman she was interviewing was there for an interview about her BOOK. It was not supposed to be a political hit-job until the reporter decided to turn it into one (and what I've seen of British journalism, they tend to turn just about anything into a political hit-job, er, "row"). The reporter's cold and bland "I am a tool just doing my job" is about as moral as the solider that says, "I was just following orders" or the attorney that defends a guilty man, "I am just a tool in the process." The reporter and the interviewee are first and foremost human beings, not tools, not cogs, and not scoops.

Tucker Carlson did his best to ge viewership. He is in fact an intelligen man, but ended to make pronuncements that lack any foundation, but were done to prduce a reaction. He did seem to be improvng. He also seemed to be on a station that is having a lot of programing problems. I wish him th best an hope he lands on his feet.

Tucker, more than once, admitted why he was so shocked---- he asked "don't you risk access if you don't do what they ask you to?"... after this interview, he brought on a Clinton strategist/supporter I believe (do not remember name) and they continued to lambaste the 'Scot' and laughed at the absurdity of a journalist 'risking access to candidates' by reporting all the facts.....
this made me almost break my 4th TV set as I watched it alone, and was wondering, if not hoping, that this would outrage others who may have had the misfortune of seeing Tucker on the tube ( I guess I was just lucky)

Tucker is an untalented snob who hides behind a prep school arrogance. Once he obtained his own show his lack of talent could no longer be hidden.

Of course, MSNBC fired Tucker Carlson.....he doesn't fit in with Chris "Obama sends a thrill up my leg" Mathhews or Tim Russert or Keith Olbermann, the other Clinton-hating misogynists at MSNBC....whoever could have imagined that Fox would actually wind up being more "fair and balanced" about the Democratic race than MSNBC?

It is going to be soooooooo much fun watching all of them whine, moan, and complain over the next few months. The wheels have come off the Obama train and every one who has deified him in the media know it.

By the time we get to June, Obama will have been exposed. Obama is now being exposed for the intellectual dilletante that he is. That's why hillary is now in full command (except for African-Americans) of the democratic base: blue-collar workers, those without a college degree, men and women over 50, and latinos. They have swarmed to Hillary and will become a political tsunami in Pennsylvania.

Goodbye, Senator Obama. You ALMOST got away with it.

There are no journalistic standards in America, only bottom lines. Corporate journalism is a branch of the entertainment industry. It has the same relationship to an educated public as Coca-Cola has to good nutrition. Of course, there are some independents, "non-embeddeds," alternative or Web types, etc., who are OK.

And we now learn this... Tucker cancelled!!!

http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/msnbc/tucker_canceled_other_programming_changes_ahead_79352.asp?c=rss

Insiders tell TVNewser Tucker Carlson's 6pmET show Tucker is getting the axe, but Carlson stays on as a political contributor to all MSNBC shows at least through the 2008 election.

Powers should have seen it coming. She got too comfortable with the interview, and probably underestimated Peev's ambition to be editor in chief for the London Times. Bye bye "The Scotsman", hello "London Times".
