Rove Mccain

Think Progress:

Last night on Fox News's The O'Reilly Factor, Karl Rove discussed Sen. John McCain's (R-AZ) "compelling" life story. In addition to his time as a prisoner of war, Rove pointed to the fact that McCain adopted a daughter from a Bangladesh orphanage:

And today, that young child -- who was near death -- is their teenage daughter. I don't think most people understand the compassion and love that would come from a moment like that.

To watch the little Weasel, McCain, abandon all his alleged 'ethics' and honesty to sell out, like a cheap whore (not one of Spitzer's) to the slimiest piece of scum that ever worked for a president....I cant even contain my contempt for McCain and I feel betrayed. He is a big fraud, a lousy Navy pilot but, based on his campaign contributions from "Air Bus", an effective lobbyist for European corporations. (THEYRE FRENCH!!! JOHN). He has made his pact with the devil, Hilary is still negotiating.

This guy is the best the GOP can do?
This guy is the best America can do?

Lousy pilot, and a lobbyist for EADS? What other fantasies do you have to offer?

The only thing McCain did was put the kibosh on the original tanker lease deal, which was not only corrupt, but also a bad financial deal for the Air Force, kind of like a rent-to-own scam. Two people, from Boeing and the Air Force, went to prison on corruption charges. The CEO of Boeing and the Secretary of the Air Force were fired.

I thought you lefties liked it when people stand up to corruption, especially in the MIC. Guess I was wrong.

Rove advising McCain. What does that tell you?

It tells you to look for the underhanded tactics and the election day shenanigans.

"Question: Where is the proof that Rove did this push poll or is this just another Rovian conspiracy theory by the left?" beerguy

A) First off, until you change your handle, your opinions are moot. It's like your saying, "I'm an alcoholic and here's what I believe..."

Answer: Who cares?

B) Rove is notorious for his willingness to pull any and every underhanded trick in the book, including some horrendous shit that isn't even in the book. How do you think a nimrod like Bush got into office in the first place? When it comes to Uncle Karl, assuming the worst is always a distinct possibility. There is nothing the guy would not do.

So, uhm, beer guy? If you really want proof, don't do what most republicans do and simply deny what you don't want to believe. Do a little "objective" research and actually look to see if there is indeed proof of what Karl is accused of. "Objective" means, somewhere else besides FOX or Rush.

Anyone ever hear a recording of the alleged call? Apparently no one in South Carolina has voice mail or an answering machine. Hoax.

Well white men fathering black chilren is hardly news...there's the wonderful legacy of rape during slavery (Jefferson) and in most recent history Strong Thurmond fathering a child with his parents' 16 year old black maid....then going on to spout hatred and oppose integration.

It's practically part of the Republican m.o.

The only thing I want to hear from Mr. Rove is his testimony before the senate. Why Huffpost has to post a picture of him everyday, with every ridiculous utterance is confounding. We all know what his contribution to the political process will be.

Ironic. McCain has never stepped up to defend his own daughter, yet the GOP advances him as the best person to protect your children.

The rebulicans old dodge when confronted about contradictions between their actions and their "family values" was that the issue didn't concern their own family. Here the issue concerns attacks on McCain's own family. What DOES McCain stand for, anyway?

If McCain was a man, he would beat the human turd Rove to a pulp.

McCain won't do that. He's too much of a wuss to stand up for his wife and kids. If McCain cannot defend his own honor and the honor of his family, how can he be expected to defend America??

I've been discussing this with my friends for weeks now and I have some questions. Where's the honor and integrity of McCain now? Why didn't he stand up more forcefully for his daughter then? And more importantly, where is she now? Why haven't we at least seen her on the campaign trail? I understand that she may not want to be part of the campaign like her sister, but she isn't even around to be photographed, period. It's pretty white faces with blond hair we see; a perfect fabrication of the 'perfect' American family.

The truth is she's 'locked away' in some basement to never see the light of day until after the election. What a shame, and what a clear reflection of the character of John McCain. I'm not sure if Karl Rove was directly responsible for these racist divisive polls that particularly took place in South Carolina, but for McCain to ally himself with some of the principles that were even indirectly associated is telling enough. Unfortunately, this episode is quite indicative of the prejudice that still exists in many quarters of this country. As much of an enlightening moment it is for our country to have a black man and a white woman in contention for the Democratic nomination it's a shame to see a man sell his daughter up the river for political expediency.

I've often wondered that myself. Now, I'm not a big fan of politicians using their kids as props in the campaign, but why hasn't she made many appearances with him? I don't think it's a case like Rudy, whose kids just hate him. But I have to ask, why didn't he stand up to the push poll in 2000 and do at least one appearance on TV. He could have said, "This my daughter. My wife and I adopted her from Bangladesh and we love her dearly. Shame on Bush and Karl Rove for appealing to bigotry and trying to paint this beautiful girl as something any father would be ashamed of." I guarantee every news program would have ran with the meme of the courageous father defending his deloved child.

Was he afraid the GOP primary voters really were too bigoted to support a man with a nonwhite adopted daughter? If so, what does that say about both him and the GOP in the 21st century?

She's not on the campaign trail for two obvious reasons:

1. missing a year of classes would cause her flunk out of high school.

2. People like you are constantly attacking the McCain family for their daughter's skin color. You make an issue of it, but they don't. She is a juvenile, and I commend the family for protecting her privacy from the likes of you, just as I admired the Clintons for guarding Chelsea's privacy when she was a child.

Whether she's a juvenile or not isn't the question. The travesty is that McCain feels like he can't bring his daughter out in front politically. Every other politician is able to get the shot of the loving family that Americans apparently have to see. We know why they don't show her. He'll suffer for it. How dare you attack me for bringing up McCain's daughter's skin color. My skin is as brown as hers. That is precisely why I wonder where she is as do many people I know with varying skin hues. It speaks to America's underlying problem with race and people that are 'different' than the majority. For a family to do something so admirable as to adopt a child that very well may have died and to have that beautiful act sullied by the reality of the American political landscape is depressing.

As for you, maybe you should read what you comment on more closely. I never suggested she should be campaigning with her father. Also, I have no problem accepting a family of diverse origin whether that's from adoption or biracial origin. My point was that this instance shows that many of American voters still do.
