Tucker Canceled

UPDATE: David Gregory will headline a show in Tucker's old timeslow. Read about the changes here.

ORIGINAL ITEM: TVNewser is reporting that MSNBC will announce Monday that Tucker Carlson's TV show is being canceled:

Insiders tell TVNewser Tucker Carlson's 6pmET show Tucker is getting the axe, but Carlson stays on as a political contributor to all MSNBC shows at least through the 2008 election. The official announcement, expected tomorrow, will include details about who will replace Tucker at 6pmET as well as other political programming additions. Sources say the network is going to beef up its schedule with more NBC News talent.

In recent days, Jossip, as well as other blogs, ratcheted up the talk that Tucker would be replaced "for a new project." In its 33-month run, Carlson's show has had two names, four time slots and multiple formats. At 6pmET, it builds on its Harbdall lead-in on some days, but loses audience on others.

Michael Calderone at the Politico spoke with Carlson Sunday night, who confirmed that MSNBC canceled his show:

Tucker Carlson's MSNBC show "Tucker" has been canceled, with an announcement from the network coming tomorrow.

I spoke with Carlson this evening, and the host confirmed reports on media blogs in the past few days about the show getting canceled. But otherwise, Carlson declined comment at this time.

Carlson was on his way to New York where he'll appear on Joe Scarborough's "Morning Joe" at around 6:30. Have a feeling Scarborough will bring it up then.

The move is hardly unexpected. In November, the New York Observer reported that Tucker's days at the network were numbered:

Rumors have been flying recently that Tucker Carlson could soon be on the way out at MSNBC. In a report that aired this morning on NPR, Phil Griffin, a senior vice president at the cable network, described Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews as part of the MSNBC "brand". Asked whether Mr. Carlson was also part of that brand, Mr. Griffin replied: "He is right now."

I wonder if this has anything to do with how critical he has been of the Clinton campaign. *sigh*

I disagree with many of his views, but love the show...

As a former viewer of most of the MSNBC shows (former viewer) I can't tell you how much better I sleep at night since I quit watching them ALL.

I couldn't wait til Keith Olberman came on at eight o'clock but after the Super bowl it seemed like he had a mouth or brain transplant and he started to sound like a radical Republican.
goodbye Keith.
As for Rachel Maddow, and Nora O'Donnell neither one of them would make me watch MSNBC.
These people sit on their duffs and earn big money for trying to influence people how to think, how to vote and who to like.
Had enough of them all, thinking for myself.

Great news! I must echo the many other posts stating Rachel Maddow is the best choice for a replacement. Nora O'Dollface is a fine correspondent but Maddow is so much more sharp. I just hope they don't feel they need to hire another fringe right-winger to compete with idiots like Glenn Beck on CNN and whomever is on Fox. Even MSNBC's Joe Scarborough is the most palatable of the right-wing pundits. He understands the war was a disastrous mistake and has frequently criticized Bush as the stupid idiot he is. I know it's impossible, but I'd rather see more of him than petulant and privileged Dan Abrams, whose presentation is terrible and shallow.

If he could shut himself up in addition to them stopping those stupid true-crime documentaries and other sensationalist, they'd be a great channel. I love their election night coverage. Their panels and analysis alone already make them superior to CNN and FOX. A full hour of Rachel Maddow would really improve it and further give it an air of class.

I vote for Randi Rhodes. She is a proven one-woman show.

"Sources say the network is going to beef up its schedule with more NBC News talent."

The fact that they hired Carlson to begin with calls into question NBC's definition of "talent."

YEAH !!!!!
so the Silver spoon couldn't sheild him fro the wrath of the Masses.
Even the ever conservative Joe has stop being a mouth piece for the Gov'Corp Corruption (to a point- tough learning Curve for Joe- but he's learning)
And thank goodness- I thought we almost lost Keith to the Fray distributed by the MInstry of Truth. But he has recently returned to the rela Truth about the candidates who claim Experience.
Both Hill and Mac ahve expereince at making the Wrong Decisons which have cost US dearly!
F'er Carlson will probably find an opening at FOX "news'- good keep them contained but let them talk- they are as effective at increasing recruitment for the Real Patriots of this Country, as Bush has been for AQ .
Remain silent and be thought a Fool or open your mouth and Dispell all doubt.

Oh well, you reap what you sow Tucker. Don't worry about Tucker paying the bills though, his stepmother is heir to the Swanson frozen-food fortune. When it's all said and done though, I think it was appearing on Dancing With the Stars that was his nail in the coffin. See you on FOX Tucker :)

If MSNBC had a brain they'd hire Rachel Maddow! She's freaking HOT!

At least have one normal looking woman on TV instead of the legions of cloned fems on other channels.

This proves how biased MSNBC is!!! At least with Tucker, we could hear both sides of the arguments in a fair and balanced way, which is totally missing in the other programs. MSNBC is trying to compete so hard with FOX that fails to realize that the only way to do it is by having room for other points of view. They will never get ahead this way!!!
