Clinton Surrogate: Obama Can't Milk The Iraq War Cow

The Clinton camp's attempts to call into question both the sincerity of Barack Obama's call for an Iraq troop withdrawal and his ability to serve as commander-in-chief took a bizarre turn on Monday, when farming metaphors were deployed for the first time in the campaign.

Speaking on a conference call with reporters, Lt. Gen. Joe Ballard, a Clinton supporter, compared Obama's stance on Iraq to a person who could "recognize a cow" (ostensibly, the perils of the war) but not milk it (get the troops out? has conflict-management experience?).

"Just because you recognize the cow doesn't mean you know how to milk it," said Ballard, who was playing off his time among cows in Louisiana. "I think body of experience, learning what you have to do and how to do it, is very important... No one can tell you how to milk a cow; you have to do that yourself."

That wasn't all.

"No doubt in my mind he can probably milk a cow but his body of experience means he probably doesn't know how to milk one," continued Ballard, before getting a bit more specific. "When I look across the aisle at Sen. Obama, other than a great speech, I really do not see the same body of experience to deal with that issue. I see a statement that says I have a great staff that can advise me. I think you need a great body of experience to deal with the recommendations your staff is bringing to you."

Campaign spokesman Howard Wolfson called into question Obama's capacity to be the vice president, claiming "We do not believe that Senator Obama has passed the commander-in-chief test. But there is a long way between now and Denver."

In addition to Ballard, the conference call included Gen. Wesley Clark, and Lee Feinstein, the Clinton Campaign's National Security Director, all of whom attacked Obama for not being entirely committed to a troop withdrawal. As evidence they cited recent remarks by former Obama aide Samantha Power which suggested that the Illinois Democrat would reconsider troop withdrawal once elected, given the account of conditions on the ground.

"[Sen. Clinton] has been unwavering in her commitment to support withdrawal," said Ballard. "People know when they vote what they are exactly going to get. And in the case of Sen. Obama I don't think we are quite that clear."

Moooo.

Yup, this is what it's come down to folks, dummies in the Clinton camp measuring the power of their opponent's position on the Iraq War to "milking a cow." I guess for the next debate, the Clinton campaign will demand that two cows be hauled on the stage during the candidates' "foreign policy" exchange, so Clinton can show the American people, first hand, her superior cow-milking abilities vs. Sen. Obama. After all, Sen. Obama doesn't have enough experience in the cow-milking business, "as far as I know!" I'm so sick of this election and how we've drifted far, far away from substance into the outer limits of nonsense.

As they say, be careful what you wish for. What makes Senator Clinton think she can hold her pledged delegates in view of her recent antics?

It would be nice if Obama Milked a real cow just to show what a joke the Hillary and her supporters are.
He needs to ignore their taunts, and do some of his own.

So, when's Wolfson actually ready to be a human being instead of a jackass.

I'm glad Obama won't milk the Iraq war cow - let Hillary milk herself!

Another stupid remark by a Clinton surrogate. What about the eight US soldiers that died in
Iraq today? As Senator Obama said in 2002, this was and is a stupid war and Hillary voted
for it and still won't admit that it was a mistake.

I guess Obama is going to VP school this Summer, so that he can be ready on "Day One" along with Hillary.

LOL

Wow. Is this the best and the brightest of Sen. Clinton's advisors? If so America will be looking at four more years of stupidity, should Sen. Clinton be elected president.
If Sen. Clinton is so strong on foreign policy and national security why does she needs so many advisors and staff supporting her? Sen. Clinton's legion of foreign policy and national security advisors dwarfs the number of people advising Sen. Obama. So, by Lt. Gen. Joe Ballard's convoluted reasoning’s Sen. Clinton would be the person that "when I look across the aisle," "other than a great speech, I really do not see the same body of experience to deal with that issue. I see a statement that says I have a great staff that can advise me. I think you need a great body of experience to deal with the recommendations your staff is bringing to you."
LT. GEN. BALLARD IS THIS THE BEST THAT YOU CAN DO? If so one would be left to mulling how apropos the old adage that military intelligence is an oxymoron.

to milk the cow.

Lowlife, Clintons are lowlifes!
People will leave the Democratic Party if Hillary gets nominated.

How can Hillary be more electable, when
she can't even win enough votes from the Democrats?

Seems to me like all of these candidates have the same amount of experience when it comes to dealing with an international crisis. None!
Guess we have to try to figure out which one has the kind of judgement we like best.

No one is ready. Every presidency is unique in its trials and hurdles. The modern presidency is like being the conductor during a train wreck. You can't control it, but you can try to minimize damage. The present administration is the exception, having open the throttle wide and bailing.

Wow, I would pay good dollar to see some of you educated urban dwellers try to milk a cow!
But bad metaphors aside, there is a grain of truth to it, especially in light of Samantha Powers interview where she clearly stated a strategy contrary to Senator Obama's promises and speeches. Who really is gullible here? The poor uneducated masses that vote for Hillary, probably because they must be racists of course, or the affluent educated urbanites and suburbanites who must be enlightened for voting for Barack? I hate to say this about my own Senator, but his CELEBRITY was too big for his little unimportant Junior Senator position and with the wink wink and nudge nudge from the Democratic establishment who said he should move while the celebrity is still good, he decided to run. NOW that is what I call a great foundation for running for office! Celebrity and an ego to big for a Senator from Illinois position! At least Hillary paid her dues to the state of New York.. Imagine had she tried to run in 2004!

Go HILLARY!

Hmm, I don't know what you think you're doing with that cow, but what you're putting out isn't milk.

In fact, the junior senator from New York has served in elected office for less time than Senator Obama. Why can't she wait her turn?

Bad metaphor indeed. Doesn't anyone get that "milking the cow" has far more connotations toward profiteering. I'm sure Hillary would know how to milk that cow.

Can we please say goodbye to the scorched-earth politics of the Bush-Clinton generation?

You think they invented it ?!- it is the very nature of politics and has been for hundreds of years.I don't think one campaign is going to change it .

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:24 PM on 03/10/2008

Why can't we change it?. It takes one more Democratic candidate and she seems bent on scorched earth no matter how it cripples the Democratic party and we possibly lose the general election.
