I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Heaton

She's 50 years old as of last week, spent years on a hit sitcom, and has four sons. She openly had a breast lift and tummy tuck, and wrote about the experience:

Her breasts, she says, were "horrifying." And her stomach was a mess. "I had a big ridge of scar tissue. My belly button was herniated. Then there was that skin that hung there. It didn't work to suck it in. It wouldn't have mattered if I had done 1,000 sit-ups. "

The tummy tuck was like having another C-section, she says. "I would recommend it to anyone."

She's Patricia Heaton, and she's in Hawaii on a family vacation. More pictures here

The media takes on these various stories is always entertaining.

This story reminded me of one in the New York Times about 6 or 9 months ago about a woman that got a pre-emptive mastectomy because she had a very strong family history of breast cancer and she had tested positive for several genetic mutations strongly linked to breast cancer.

They lionized her as a forward thinking, avante garde, empowered woman who was embracing the future of medical genomics.

They failed to mention that since she was getting her breasts operated on anyway, they went ahead and did a boob job while they were at it. When I read the full story it sounded more like a lady that thought up a clever way to swindle her insurance company into paying for her boob job.

Childbearing and childbirth and c-sections wreak havoc on a woman's body. If someone decided they were finished having children and scheduled a hysterectomy at the same time as a c-section, would she be wrong? If she scheduled a tummy tuck at the same time as the c-section, would she be vain?

Why would it matter if she had the tummy tuck right then or a year or two later? I really don't see the big deal about it.

I'm not a big proponent of plastic surgery or body modification, or even body piercing, but there's no reason to attack someone's appearance like this. It's not like she signed up for a photo shoot. Somebody snapped a picture of her when she was out in public minding her own business, and suddenly everyone is mortified at her audacity.

How many days are you going to embarass her and gross us out with the photo's?

Gawd, the lizard hands and no belly button, looks like she's trying out for her first part again in Alien Nation.

What a bunch of misogynistic horrible comments on this article. The comments made me want to lose my lunch, not the picture.

Who says only thin women should wear two pieces. News flash men - women are not wearing their bathing suits for your entertainment.

If you visit a beach in europe, you will see EVERY woman wears a two-piece, regardless of age or weight. You see everythihng hanging out there. I wish we americans (including myself) were more comfortable with our bodies and accepted ourselves for who we are.

And I'm a 40 year old woman who has had a tummy tuck. No, it doesn't mean I hate my body. It means I do the best I can. I was trying to "undo" what pregnancy did to me. Do you think all women who wear makeup are ashamed of their bodies?

And to you ignorant men - stretch marks and lose skin do NOT mean you ate like a pig when you were pregnant. It means you weren't blessed with terribly elastic skin.

And in europe, you see stretch marks hanging out on the beach for all to see.

Get over this puritan woman hating garbage.

I do understand what you are saying, and I agree, but why would anyone trade whatever their self-perceived problem is for a tummy with no belly button. She looks like an alien.

Um, yes they are! What else would they wear them for? If it was for swimming they they would wear something that won't fall off if they move to fast.

The no belly button thing is weird but it's nothing compared to what Kathy Griffin has done to her face. I have much more of a problem with her politics than I do with what she choses to do with her body.

Is there more going on here than meets the eye? Perhaps she never really had a belly button. Perhaps she's not born of woman. Has it occurred to anyone that she might be the second coming - Christ returned as a woman? Look closely at the picture. Are we certain she isn't fighting to keep from walking on water?

I think this story is clearly underreported. We should pay more attention when we see people without navels.

Ya' just never know.

Nyland8--You're absolutely right. There's an illustrous history of bellybutton-free people. Adam and Eve came from God the Father and wouldn't have bellybuttons. Same is true for the Holy Ghost.

"star" ???

In her 50 years she appeared in ONE successful sit com whose success was based on Ray Romano and his writing. Other than that, her entire career consists of several bit parts and forgettable appearances and being at Jesus Freak events in support of the earth being 6000 years old and saving embryos.

I am in complete agreement with Truthguy! Heaton was never a star, and has sucked at everything she did including "Raymond".
Why is space being wasted on this Neo-Con old woman?

Oh,
Patricia Heaton...

Now I can sleep restfully while my Country spies on me, enshrines TORTURE, lies and covers it up with the help of the press.

Mmmm KTXBI.

p.s.
Odds are this will be on the front page longer than the revelation that Bush admits to being a war criminal last Saturday.

C'mon Arianna-this is NOT why we tune into HuffPo. Yeah, I like some gossip sometimes, but beneath the surface of the good agglomeration of news is a Star-grade tabloid. Really.

Pride... one of the 7 deadly sins.

Would Jesus have had a tummy tuck, Patty?

Would Jesus have a tummy tuck...I will be pondering this all day.
Well, I guess it depends on if he gave birth naturally, or had a c section.
Now that would really be miraculous, doncha think?

She had a herniated belly button repaired...have to sacrifice the belly button to this life saving operation...cant be helped..I have had one myself. 6 hours in major surgery.

It is so sad that the responses are so cruel, read the whole article and do some research before mouthing off, please. V.

Being a Bush supporter doesn't make you a bad person. But being someone who defends homophobia does, and she does.
