Clinton Voters: Don't Pick Obama As VP

Hillary Clinton

Highlights from results of exit polling Tuesday in the Mississippi primary for The Associated Press and television networks:

___

CONTEST POLARIZED BY RACE

In the Democratic race, Mississippi voters were strongly polarized by race, even more than in most other states that voted this year. Seventy-four percent of whites voted for Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, while 90 percent of blacks voted for Sen. Barack Obama. Clinton won among both white women, a group she normally carries, and white men, a key swing group in this campaign. Clinton won the votes of 73 percent of white men, her best showing to date. About half of the voters in the Democratic primary were black.

A quarter of whites said race was important to their votes, and they voted overwhelmingly for Clinton. Thirty-six percent of blacks said race was important to their votes and nearly all voted for Obama.

CHARITY BEGINS IN THE PARTY PRIMARY

On several counts, Obama voters were more charitable toward Clinton than vice versa:

_ Fifty-nine percent of Obama voters said he should pick Clinton for vice president if he wins the nomination; 39 percent of Clinton voters said she should pick Obama as her running mate if she wins.

_ Seventy-two percent of Clinton voters said they would be dissatisfied if Obama wins the nomination. Fifty-seven percent of Obama voters would be dissatisfied with Clinton.

_ Forty-four percent of Obama voters said Clinton has offered clear and detailed plans to solve the country's problems. Only 24 percent of Clinton voters said that about Obama.

However, on electability in November, 20 percent of Clinton voters said Obama is more likely than Clinton to beat Sen. John McCain; only 5 percent of Obama voters said Clinton was more likely than their candidate to defeat McCain.

LOOKING AHEAD TO NOVEMBER

Fifty-six percent of Clinton voters said they had a favorable opinion of McCain; only 22 percent of Obama voters viewed McCain favorably.

ON THE REPUBLICAN SIDE

Sixty-eight percent of Republican primary voters had a favorable view of Mike Huckabee. Just 9 percent had an unfavorable view of McCain but 40 percent said he is not conservative enough. Eighty-two percent were satisfied with McCain as the Republican nominee. Twenty-nine percent said they listen to conservative talk radio frequently.

Results from exit polling by Edison Media Research and Mitofsky International for The Associated Press and television networks. Samples in 35 precincts across Mississippi including interviews with 1,667 Democratic voters and 613 Republican voters. Margin of sampling error plus or minus 4 percentage points in the Democratic race, 6 percentage points in the Republican race.

Voting for Mccain will not hurt Obama, it'll hurt you and the rest of the country. If Obama doesn't win the GE he'll go right back to the Senate. What will you and the rest of us do????? SUFFER!!!! Just think about that.

anyone noticed how the media for days began putting out headlines that "obama to go negative"; "obama set to tear into clinton"; "obama smear tactic"? it's as if this whole time there was a desire by the media to tear him down or paint him in a bad light to say to his supporters, "see? your man went negative. he violated his own campaign commitment." however, when you read the text of these articles, no where in it does it explain how he "went negative," nor does it mention that he's responding to attacks by the gop and the clinton campaign. in fact, the only "negative" thing i've seen is the resignation of sam powers for her "monster" remark, and his campaign's questioning of clinton's taxes. if that's negative, then i shudder to think how to characterize the prior actions by the clinton campaign.

I hear Dr. Death (Jack Kevorkian) is free and planning to run for office. Maybe if Clinton steals the nomination she can ask him to be her VP.

They could run on the slogan "VOTE FOR ME, OR ELSE...."

As much as some people feel this sometimes negative campaign will hurt the democratic party, I will have to disagree. This is getting people worked up. I myself even vowed not to vote for Hillery if she wins the nominee in frustration. But when a nominee is decided, the candidate that comes in second will give their full support to the winner and will encourage their supporters to do the same. When Clinton and Obama share a stage, one supporting the other in the general election, people will give up their fight and will unite to defeat the republicans. Clinton and Obama actually helped each other become stronger and also made the voters become stronger. They both got people interested and involved in the process with a passion. Each state, aside from Michigan and Florida, has played a pivotal roll in this primary season. Each voter influenced the direction of this country not only by their vote but by their involvement. I'm sure they will not give that all up just because their first choice didn't make it to the end.

Ofcourse Hillary supporters are against Obama as VP cuz she's spent weeks telling them that he wont make a good president. That only makes sense, but what doesn't make sense is why she contradicts herself by suggesting Obama be her VP, if she thinks he's so unqualified. Hillary: which is it?

I can't believe it. Hilliary is allowing her staffers to torch the bridges within her own party. She either has terrible judgement or is unable to control her people. I am an Obama supporter (by way of Edwards) and I think that Obama should definately should not go for V.P. I can imagine the working conditions for him in her administration. Would the adults please take charge before out party self-destructs? Or do we really have only one party, and a Populist revolt was just more than Corporate America could take (we had to burn down the village to save it).

Don't pick Obama to be your running mate Hillary! What a joke. Fine! Don't pick him! Obama won't have time to travel to your imaginary land where Hillary gets the nomination. He will be busy running for president.

How ridiculous considering Clinton is not going to get the chance to pick any VP. And that's a good thing. Any VP she did pick would forever be tainted and drawn into her and Bill's scandals, lies and corruption. This primary has shown me that many Democrats (those Hillary Hags who hate Obama and believe Hillary's lies) are as pathetic, bigoted and stupid as any Republican who still supports Bush.

Why is this lame site even bothering to have a comments section? Censorship and one sided ranting is hardly commentary. Wonder if and when this will get posted.

Can anyone explain why Sen. Obi uses words like, bamboozle and hoodwink in Mississippi but not in his Wyoming speeches? No, really. Why does he do that??

Hillary's father, a Penn State grad was born in Scranton, Pa. Hillary is getting a lot of love in Scranton.
She has the people excited and energized. Pa will the big for Hillary. She's spending St Pat's day in Philly. Hillary/08

If Obama loses to McCain because white women voted for McCain, Hillary will be the one blamed and rightly so. She'll be this year's Ralph Nader, only she won't actually be in the race, but her impact will have been felt.
11:34 AM on 03/12/2008
Ha! Do not Hillary supporters. Her campaign is all but officially over. She cannot win. She will not, thank God almighty, be our nominee. And unless he's lost all of his senses, Obama won't even consider asking her to be his veep. So, racists and change-averse Dems, get over it.

Think about this..
Obama is the 'trophy' black guy for president.
Nothing else comes to mind about any accomplishments he should have.
Guess you could call him a court jester.
I am laughing behind his back in the fact that sure, maybe he would be
the first black president, but nothing more, nothing less.
