At least 42 people were killed in violence across Iraq on Tuesday, including 14 mourners from one family when a roadside bomb hit a bus in a southern province, security officials said.

Police at the general hospital in Nassiriya, 375 km (235 miles) south of Baghdad, said the casualties from the roadside bomb included women and children. Survivors said the bomb appeared to target a passing U.S. military convoy.

Do the U.S. government and U.S. news media keep track of the number of Iraqi civilians who have been killed or gravely wounded since the start of the invasion? Are they even considered to be real human beings whose lives have value?

I suspect the death toll will soon surpass that caused by Saddam, if it hasn't already. And the number who have been so badly wounded that they can never again return to their former lives must be enormous.

The "surge" is working! Right, Sen McCain? Anyone who's perceptive enough knows that the insurgents were just biding enough time to lull those fools to sleep who thought the surge would work. Case in point, those soldiers who were killed when they were leisurely strolling out among the Iraqis as if everything was ok. Who sent those soldiers out there without being cautionary?

It's amazing how all of these concerned citizens can do nothing but whine and cry after five years of this crap.

4 comments?? I love how this is buried at the bottom of the front page. A sex scandal is more important than 40 people dying. What a great nation we are! So compassionate!

These a**holes will burn for eternity. There is no flag big enough to wave and cover the sins of Amerika PNAC

12 billion dollars a month, and for what?

My Country Used to be
What have they done to thee
For thee I weep
Land where our fathers died,
but not for them to lie
which ever judge presides, may there trials be brief.
