Mccains Spiritual Guide

Mother Jones:

Senator John McCain hailed as a spiritual adviser an Ohio megachurch pastor who has called upon Christians to wage a "war" against the "false religion" of Islam with the aim of destroying it.

On February 26, McCain appeared at a campaign rally in Cincinnati with the Reverend Rod Parsley of the World Harvest Church of Columbus, a supersize Pentecostal institution that features a 5,200-seat sanctuary, a television studio (where Parsley tapes a weekly show), and a 122,000-square-foot Ministry Activity Center. That day, a week before the Ohio primary, Parsley praised the Republican presidential front-runner as a "strong, true, consistent conservative." The endorsement was important for McCain, who at the time was trying to put an end to the lingering challenge from former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee, a favorite among Christian evangelicals. A politically influential figure in Ohio, Parsley could also play a key role in McCain's effort to win this bellwether state in the general election. McCain, with Parsley by his side at the Cincinnati rally, called the evangelical minister a "spiritual guide."

It's amazing how similar this guy sounds to those brainwashing, ignorance-spreading, war-mongering militant clerics that recruit the unemployed youths in war-torn parts of the Middle East to martyr themselves in the name of God. It is exactly the same words, the same insane notions, the same hate and intolerance - just the object and subject are switched (i.e. the evil American empire vs Islam). So all these lunatic "spiritual advisors" are reading from the same bible of hate - if only they could see how much they have in common - and how removed from sanity they happen to be. It does bring to light that America is on par with Iran in regards to the relationship between church and state when they happen to have a Republican at the thrown - with the exception that more people around the world happen to die by their holy hand - as dictated by a merciless god.

Soon he will be hearing the same voices who "spoke" to GWB...and we all know where those voices have taken us.

"As I scan the world, I find that Islam is responsible for more pain, more bloodshed, and more devastation than nearly any other force on earth at this moment."

And I am jealous, Pasley forgot to add.

Interesting that he added "at this moment" -- a tacit admission the Xianity has had more than its fair share of bloodshed.

And how about those twin admonitions from Jesus, "Love thy enemy as thyself," and "turn the other cheek"? Somehow those messages seem to get lost on losers like Pasley.

"As I scan the world, I find that the bu$h/cheney USURPATION (et al) is responsible for more pain, more bloodshed, and more devastation than nearly any other force on earth except maybe the "fed" & "fed" type bankers (i.e. the puppet masters of the bu$h/cheney usurpation et al).
And considering how much israel is using America as their own bully against America & the M.E. etc, I believe they're on that list too.

Louisiana won't vote for him. He is quoted as saying “Hurricane Katrina was, in fact, the judgment of God against the city of New Orleans.” McCain sure is showing bad judgment in his choice of a "spiritual guide."

Wow --- this just makes me more of an athiest daily. If McCain wins I am moving to a country that totally outlaws all the born again idiots and religion. Europe will be the answer!!!

Europe is having its own problems with Muslims. Cheap labor has precipitated a crisis.

No it has not. I live in Denmark and the so-called "cheap labot crisis" is nothing of the sort. It's a minor dispute that will be settled calmly and through debate - the way it's supposed to be.

I am an agnostic but I welcome people of all faiths or none, as long as they do not attempt to dicatate dogma to policy. It's a highly misguided venture.

McCain seems to peddle to the Tim LaHaye's of this planet - that's totally insane!

Europe does not outlaw religion.. but thankfully superstition is more of a private matter.

What was it George Carlin said about Three Commandments? Something like:

Be honest with the provider of thy nookie.
Don't kill anyone (unless of course they believe in a different invisible man than you do)
And keep thy religion to yourself.

McCain will not denounce this guy. He brings in votes. The world laughs at the stupid people in this stupid dying empire.

Why are people surprised one bit? Bush has claimed this is a holy war when he called it a crusade after 911.

Apparantly Allah is so powerful that he can make steel building collapse in a freefall into their own footprints. And Allah can make three airplane black boxes dissappear. The people who did 911 are quite EVIL. Too bad none have been brought to justice, (or even investigated for that matter...) Shock and awe brought to you buy PNAC, AIPAC, and the MIC

I feel sorry for you that you could believe that 9/11 is an inside job, it would take thousands of people to engineer that kind of a conspiracy. And just ask a blacksmith if hot metal can bend.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 12:25 PM on 03/13/2008

Well let me see, we are attacked on 9/11 by radical Islamic Fundamentalists who believe that all non-believers (christians etc.) should either convert or die. By them attacking the United States, is that not an act of war? And them doing it on the premise that we either convert to their religion or die, would that not make it a "Holy War"?

Ghost:

If we are going to use al Qaida as the yardstick by which we measure all Muslims, shouldn't we also use the KKK as the yardstick by which we measure all Christians?

Ehn, Islam doesn't need to be destroyed. But the political side of the religion needs to be marginalized to the point of impotency. At least, it should be in this country.

All religion will eventually seek to politicize itself because that is another avenue to controlling the lives and wealth of the people of the world.. which is all religion wants - dominion over mankind.

Senator McCain is no different than Senator Clinton, in that, he has had to take on individuals who are anti-thetical to his own stated beliefs for political purposes, inarguably the position that the destruction of Islam by Christianity is the basis of America historically and metaphysically is both doctrinally and logically incorrect. And, Senator McCain has faced first hand the true cost of war, and as a decorated war hero who still bares the scars of torture, he knows well that America's action in Iraq was a fools errand - and that our armed forces are stretched far too thin to bare any further theatres of conflict at present. And, as for the wishes of extremists such as Mr. Hagee that Israel sacrifice itself in a nuclear holocaust to bring about the return of Christ - I do not believe that Jewish doctrine, or Christian doctrine, read by any rational educated individual would support such an outrageous position. And, Senator McCain's declaration for the GOP to stop using the "Hussein" reference to try to smear Senator Obama as a Muslim shows that he does not engender the bigotry and ignorance of some of his supporters - but as the Clinton campaign showed us in South Carolina with the racist statements of President Clinton, and now with the racist tirade of Ms. Ferraro - they will stop at nothing to achieve their goal which is to win the nomination - watching Senator Clinton butcher the english language when she was asked if Senator Obama was a Muslim, if President Clinton's remarks were wrong, if Ms. Ferraro's comments were wrong, when she is going to release the records of the Clinton presidency and tax information - shows not how foolish they are but how foolish they believe the American electorate is - I believe Senator Obama will lose this contest and I believe Senator Clinton will be the next President of the United States. Unfortunately, after this election, we will have no basis to pass judgement on third world nations when we speak of democracy, ethics, justice - thank you President and President Clinton.

Islam of course includes vast numbers of Muslim-Americans who under the very first amendment to the constitution have a right to the establishment of their religion and the free exercise thereof. Perhaps Mr. McCain hasn't been to Dearborn, MI or other areas with large populations of Muslim-Americans. There are some beautiful Mosques in this country he may not be aware of and of course besides Christianity, there are lots of Americans who are Buddhists, Atheists, Agnostics, Native American Spiritualists, Wiccans, and many other religious worshippers of many persuasions who have a right to establish and practice their religion despite McCain's apparent ignorance of what Islam is.

People who hate others don't really care about these arguments. If they did, they would not hate to begin with. Christian hatred for Islam is no better than a muslim hating a Christian. I find it fascinating that people so easily forget that Hitler, who killed millions of Jews and was the greatest anti-Semite ever, was not a Muslim.
