Mccains Spiritual Guide

Mother Jones:

Senator John McCain hailed as a spiritual adviser an Ohio megachurch pastor who has called upon Christians to wage a "war" against the "false religion" of Islam with the aim of destroying it.

On February 26, McCain appeared at a campaign rally in Cincinnati with the Reverend Rod Parsley of the World Harvest Church of Columbus, a supersize Pentecostal institution that features a 5,200-seat sanctuary, a television studio (where Parsley tapes a weekly show), and a 122,000-square-foot Ministry Activity Center. That day, a week before the Ohio primary, Parsley praised the Republican presidential front-runner as a "strong, true, consistent conservative." The endorsement was important for McCain, who at the time was trying to put an end to the lingering challenge from former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee, a favorite among Christian evangelicals. A politically influential figure in Ohio, Parsley could also play a key role in McCain's effort to win this bellwether state in the general election. McCain, with Parsley by his side at the Cincinnati rally, called the evangelical minister a "spiritual guide."

I'm a registered Republican. I resent what the G.O.P. "leadership" has presented to me as "my" choice. I will NOT vote for McCain, who is simply an angry war-hungry bully. Why him? and why silence a better Republican, Ron Paul? Do we really need McCain and his pals Lieberman or Hagee who will press us even deeper into that bloody religious cesspool in and about Israel? Enough already.

Those with a purely religious viewpoint of the world can only conceive of humans who are either us or them. Is it any wonder that Christ was most hated by the religious leaders, and, in turn, they were the group most rebuked by Christ. Islam considers Christ to be a prophet and Abraham to be their father. Thus Christians are insulted that he is demoted from the status of God, and Jews repulsed at their insinuated brotherhood.

For sure Islam is a vast wasteland of intellectual mythology, but it shares that condition with all the religious mythologies that litter the human cultures. We will have wars and rumors of wars because religious people will not cease in placing love of their religion as more important than love itself. If we are to believe that religions represent the divine and omnipotent ruler of this universe, then it's no wonder that so many careful thinkers become unbelievers in God.

Religions will crucify all humanity while smugly considering the righteousness of their actions. They are only fooled by their own souls, lost as they are and without any apparent God to save any of us.

Actually, in medieval times, Jews found more brotherhood and tolerance living in the Muslim countries than they did in the Christian realms.

I always thought that philosophers were unbelievers since their narcissism and belief in self-superiority disallowed any room for God. Religions don't murder people, people murder people. People have killed for love, beauty, and freedom. Are we to consider these things bad?

Little League, Bible school,Little League, Bible school,Little League, Bible school...

I am soooooooo glad I chose Little League all of those years ago - and thus after 3 days my association with organized religion came to a pleasant and permanent end.

Glad, 'cuz I don't wanna even think about what they must put in your head to make you believe the crap some of these religious leaders spout.

The only way to destroy a religion is by wiping out the followers of that religion. I can't imagine the US wiping out the Saudis or Kuwaitis. If the US does that, who is going to buy the weapons from the US? China or Russia?
Having said that I can't wait to see McCain dancing with the King of Saudi Arabia when he goes there, if he ever becomes the President. Imagine Rod's face then.

Just what the world needs, another militant bigot. There is scant difference between pseudo-Christians like Parsley and the mullahs. He is guilty of the same crime for which he condemns others to be destroyed. There is also another glaring similarity, the ones inciting violence never wish to do the dirty work themselves. Funny, how that works.

Brilliant, absolutely brilliant. The al Qaeda call the US the Crusaders with a good reason because morons like this make stupid statements.

if Parsley wants to start a Crusade, then why the hell doesn't he take his millions and send himself and his 12K member congregation over to Iran or wherever hewants to kill muslims. Shouldn't he at least set-up a recruting station outside his church? The whole point about these Pharisees is that they never DO what they preach. Freakin psychopath and his psychopath followers.
