After being forced to respond to three separate incidents in recent weeks of conservatives alluding to Barack Obama's middle name, John McCain's campaign manager today sent a memo to top supporters urging them to stick to the campaign's preferred message -- and to avoid taking gratuitous shots at their Democratic rivals.

"Overheated rhetoric and personal attacks on our opponents distract from the big differences between John McCain's vision for the future of our nation and the Democrats," wrote Rick Davis in a document the campaign emailed to Republican officials and staffers this afternoon. "This campaign is about John McCain: his vision, leadership, experience, courage, service to his country and ability to lead as commander in chief from day one."

The conservatives are trying to hijack McCains campaign and control his agenda. Fools.

What an Honorable candidate. Which is more than I can say for Hillary and her campaign. What a shame that the Republicans candidates is not resorting to the Racists Tactits of the Clinton Campaign. Saying you don't agree with a surrogate in your campaign racist statement does not "Cross the Threshold" for a person wanting be the standard bearer of the Democratic Party.

Conveniently for John McCain, the political effects of yelling, "Hussein!" and yelling, "stop saying Hussein!" are identical.

Oh, my friend, it will take a whole HELL of a lot more than stopping using Obama's middle name to make McCain palatable!!! This will hardly detract from the fact that McCain has twisted in any direction that he thinks will garner votes for him. He let the Bushies slander him, his wife and daughter, then hugs the creep in charge. He is just like Romney, pandering to every nut job, changing positions on issues with regularity. The man is too old, too angry, too unprincipled to be president. WE NEED AN ADULT to take over, not another frat boy, my friend.

Though I don't agree with many of his positions (i.e. foreign policy / warmongering), I definitely respect this guy. And though I'm an Obama supporter, I have a nagging feeling that McCain will end up beating either Dem candidate in the general. He would beat Obama by the "Reagan Democrat" effect + racists + disgruntled Clinton supporters and would beat Clinton by even more because of the vast amount of visceral hatred towards her. It's funny how Obama supporters are now seeing a lot of things about her that the right wing had been saying all along, but they had been ignoring while defending Bill's administration.

lollll...good luck with that, McCain. You may not want to recognize the fact, but - even after Coulter's and Limbaugh's defections - you've still got a bunch of neocon a-holes who want to make you their own.
