Bush 'Intervened At The 11th Hour' To Kill Stronger Climate Protections

Think Progress   |   March 13, 2008 05:09 PM

Yesterday, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Stephen Johnson decided to modestly tighten smog standards, a decision directly "overruling the unanimous advice of its scientific advisory council for a more protective standard."

According to the LA Times, President Bush personally intervened to overrule EPA staff who were pushing to protect forests and crops:

Is your point that global warming exists or doesnt? Because global warming means, the earth wont become one big warm place it will become a planet of extremities.. Very hot in places, and very cold in others and no inbetween

If only the Supreme Court in 2000 didn't intervene at the 11th hour to hand Bush the presidency, we would all be in a much, much stronger position today.

Bush's presidency has been a national nightmare.

Ya know, I really don't see people clubbing each other to death like a bunch of helpless baby seals competing over that front teat to get those solar panels put in. Get em up, get em connected, windmills, small children on stationary bicycles belted to alternators on home-made brackets, having the electricity at your house disconnected, getting up off your fat butt to shut the lights/tv/Griswold christmas light display off, do something, or put a sock in it. Vote for Bert!

Didn't global temperatures stop rising about the year 2000? Wasn't this winter the coldest in decades? Perhaps the global warming alarmists are wrong. Maybe we'll cool off for a while now.

"Didn't global temperatures stop rising about the year 2000?"

No, it didn't.

"Wasn't this winter the coldest in decades?

No, it wasn't.

"Perhaps the global warming alarmists are wrong. Maybe we'll cool off for a while now."

Or better yet, perhaps the people shooting spitballs from the back of the room at those doing the work could develop a sense of responsibility.

Suffice to say, you're not a especially well read on the subject of global warmingand before you post a comment that makes you sound like a fool, you might consider reading something on the subject . One of the strange aspects of global warming is a decrease in temperature in some places. In case you missed, a chunk of ice the size of Rhode Island disappeared from Greenland last week and the week before, a large Greenland glacier melted over a period of weeks (this glacier should not have melted at all but the prediction was that it would melt over a few years owing to global warming). So no, global temperatures have not stopped rising. They continue to rise and this is especially noticeable in the polar regions. In certain areas, for example, the American Midwest, temperatures appear to be falling. In California, 2006 was the warmest year since record keeping began and I can personally attest to the fact that the West Coast continues to get hotter..

Sorry to break it to you, but this winter is the coldest WORLDWIDE since 2001 and there have been 15 years where it has been warmer WORLDWIDE as for the US there have been 53 years warmer, so you keep telling yourself all the cold is because of global warming....you might want to get a bigger parka since many scientists are reporting we hit our warm peak a few years back and the Earth is starting to cool....

Don't worry though you can find another Religion.

Another ostrich with his head in the sand to justify his BIG SUV he drives...

You clearly are an uneducated fool. Coldest winter is a PROBLEM!!! Global warming causes extreme changes, meaning much colder winters and much hotter summers, killing crops all year round and affecting food supplies, older people dying due to being less tolerable to handle this change.

Read up on what Global warming means.. Its more than just rising temps..

There have been cycles of earth warming and cooling, the point is it is now WAY TOO EARLY for this natural cycle, we are forcing it to happen centuries faster than normal due to our carbon output.. Read up..

This winter wasn't the coldest. Yes some places had some cold weather followed by record warm days too. I fail to see why people such as yourself point to one day where gee it was 10 degress today, global warming is over, At the same time you ignore the fact that Glaciers world wide are retreating at records rates. Wake up, park your SUV, and try to take care of gift god gave to you.

Tator Thoughts:
" e its cold out, global warming is over!!! Yeah!!! Oh, what??Its 130 degrees F, in L.A. today?? Its ok they can just move here where its colder, along with the other millions of people, i am sure we can make room.... Honey can you move the Expedition XL, the Yukon, the Hummer and the Escalade to make room for the fleet of hybrids coming from California?"

Good news Libs, global warming is over!!!!

http://www.dailytech.com/Temperature+Monitors+Report+Worldwide+Global+Cooling/article10866.htm

Looks like all your "good work" really did the trick. Can we go bak to driving our big SUV's now? We got 17 inches of snow with 3 foot drifts last weekend and it took me 4 hours to shovel out of my driveway.

Clean air and water is always a great idea, just don't try to convince me that we are changing the climate. It's not happening because of us. It just happens.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 10:53 PM on 03/13/2008

Ditto to OhioMark... LOL, these are the followers of our world, Ohiomark and Tator must be siblings.

Wait, Ohio, when after the snow melts you wonder why you still have record heat come this summer, and are short on water because all the snow that melted did not create a water table but evaporated.

Clearly need to pull your head out of the sand which there will be plenty of, in a few years as the deserts grow

News Flash: Global wamring is a Global Phenomena. That's why it's called Global.

Your driveway is not the globe, so what happens there does not really represent what is going on over the entire globe.

Yes, it still snows in the wintertime. If it didn't, it would be too late to fix it,

They orchestrate the price making sure it ebbs right around the time the the annual adjustment for inflation is made around September. This keeps the seniors increase in Social Security as low as possible. Now in March Oil is allowed to go through the roof so the raping can continue.

In case you have not been playing attention before any other country does anything one country should at least be an exmaple, and why not us, you may ask why. Well we have the technology, the smarts, and the know how, we used to have th emoney too it GW seen that we are broke. But we also have people that adore big business, and the polution they create. These same people love Bush no matter how much damage he has done to this wonderful country. We should be a world leader in everything, technology, standard of living clean air. I feel we should be better then any other country, don't you agree we are great? SO why not be a leader in reducing polution? Of course we had Bush around who has lowered our standard to the point where we are only world leaders in one thing morons.

Executive agencies are carrying out Legislative mandates.... or they are supposed to. The intervention of the Chief Executive to disobey the law is an impeachable offense. Let's get it started. NOW.

Eat much? Let's let the agencies cozy up to the legally protected immortal corporate entities who run things instead of letting them do what is good for the people, right? IS that what YOU want BOfever?

Yes, I think they (Agencies such as the EPA) should do their jobs. We passed environmental laws to protect us from environmental crimes and environmental criminals. That was back before we lost our collective national mind. I would like to start to let these rules of the road take effect. Once we painted a yellow line across which corporate greed could not cross. George Bush is painting that line the color of the road. Like it? I don't.
