Spitzer

Federal prosecutors are investigating whether Gov. Eliot Spitzer used campaign funds in connection with his meetings with prostitutes, including payments for hotels or ground transportation, three people with knowledge of the investigation said.

Prosecutors have asked the governor's lawyers about the travel arrangements for three trips, including his Feb. 13 rendezvous with a prostitute at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington. The United States attorney's office in Manhattan has also asked about the governor's use of car services during trips to Washington.

The governor's lawyers have begun consulting with a campaign finance expert who has long worked for Mr. Spitzer's political organization to see whether campaign money was spent on the trips, including some as recently as last month, a person briefed on the investigation said.

They can claim to be "investigating" anything. They're only saying this so people will start to think maybe he used campaign funds but the fact is the FBI already said he only used money from his own personal accounts.

And they won't prove anything else - they know he didn't use campaign funds. But at least they're giving the media more stories to distract from the real issues.

The real reason, they got Gov. Eliot Spitzer is very clearly documented by Greg Palast. Don't be fooled one minute into believing that the powers to be just caught him with his pants down. Spitzer is the one guy who attempted to stop the sub-prime loan scam, run by the banks under Bush's federal protection.
From Palast:
"Here’s how it worked: The Grinning Family, with US average household income, gets a $200,000 mortgage at 4% for two years. Their $955 a month payment is 25% of their income. No problem. Their banker promises them a new mortgage, again at the cheap rate, in two years. But in two years, the promise ain’t worth a can of spam and the Grinnings are told to scram - because their house is now worth less than the mortgage. Now, the mortgage hits 9% or $1,609 plus fees to recover the “discount” they had for two years. Suddenly, payments equal 42% to 50% of pre-tax income. Grinnings move into their Toyota.

Now, what kind of American is ‘sub-prime.’ Guess. No peeking. Here’s a hint: 73% of HIGH INCOME Black and Hispanic borrowers were given sub-prime loans versus 17% of similar-income Whites. Dark-skinned borrowers aren’t stupid – they had no choice. They were ‘steered’ as it’s called in the mortgage sharking business.

‘Steering,’ sub-prime loans with usurious kickers, fake inducements to over-borrow, called ‘fraudulent conveyance’ or ‘predatory lending’ under US law, were almost completely forbidden in the olden days (Clinton Administration and earlier) by federal regulators and state laws as nothing more than fancy loan-sharking.

But when the Bush regime took over, Countrywide and its banking brethren were told to party hardy – it was OK now to steer’m, fake’m, charge’m and take’m."

So, the next time you hear about some politician being caught with his pants down or hand in the till remember ~ the people behind the expose are most likely removing a block on their design. I'm sorry the guy quit. He should have told the people of N.Y. ~ SO WHAT!!!!

And don't forget that they had a wiretap on about 6,000 phone calls and went through about 5,000 emails just to catch him - can you imagine how much time, money and resources the FBI spent on this? All for a prostitution ring that made about a million dollars over a few years. That is nothing compared to the billions we have lost because of mortgage fraud and the bankers are very worried that investors might be able to sue them if they can prove there was fraud and they would have to reimburse them for the money that have lost and some of these people weren't even aware they were involved because nobody really seems to understand how these loans were sold to investment banks.

And I know for sure, after working in that industry, that the bank did not do this on their own. But the media is too busy focusing on the prostitute and stupid theories analyzing his childhood to find out why he did this. I'm also convinced that Joe Bruno had something to do with this.

And then sometimes I feel angry at Spitzer also - not for using a prostitute because this only makes him human but just because he had so much potential and should have known people would be going after him but I don't know how could have done it differently except maybe to go crazy because he couldn't have sex or get involved in a relationship with a woman who wasn't his wife which he obviously didn't want to do.

Thank you so much, you tell the truth so beautifully and it's reassuring to know that there are Americans like you without blinders on and in total denial about how this country works, at least in the last 8 years since Ma Bush's boy took over.

They take time to investigate this, while all the money "missing" in the middle east goes uninvestigated? Does this administration have it's priorities screwed up, or what? Since we are on the subject, investigate how much Jeff Gannon made during his stays at OUR White House. Since the sleazy lives are more interesting than the lives of the military, investigate Rove, he has plenty to hide while on the government payroll. All I can say is that all the wire-tapping paid off, as far as the repugs. are concerned. They discovered a "traitor" like Spitzer. What a joke this country has become. Meanwhile our Moron-In-Charge tap dances, and makes idiot statements about a "romantic war"
The repugs. got their Ronnie Reagan, this guy is out of HIS mind, also.

I understand that they have to check these things, but this is starting to smell like a Seigelman (sp?)

Boy-howdy, they're going full bore for Spitzer, aren't they? Can't help but wonder of they'd EVER consider expending this kind of effort on Vitter, Foley, or the Toe-tapper from Idaho....nah, IOKIYAR.

Right, Gov. Siegelman?

None of those cases involved illegal use of money.

Perhaps if they did there would be a further investigation.

With the Republicans into "Set-Ups" to get Democratic politicians that threaten their "economic techniques" how would we know if they bothered or would dare investigate their own "little angels"jor covered up for them. Remember who controlled the justice department for years.

Vitter, Foley, Craig, Gingrich, Delay, Cunningham(whoops-caught one )Ney, Rove, Bush, Cheney, Libby, Hastart, Brown, etc. All have either walked without real investigations/consequences or are still "employed".
