Obama Wright

Video of Rev. Jeremiah Wright, pastor and mentor to Barack Obama, has been posted. The Reverend defends his most famous constituent and attacks Hillary Clinton, saying, "Hillary ain't never been called a n****r."

Meanwhile, The Blotter has detailed some highly controversial statements by Wright in the past:

Sen. Barack Obama's pastor says blacks should not sing "God Bless America" but "God damn America."

The Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Obama's pastor for the last 20 years at the Trinity United Church of Christ on Chicago's south side, has a long history of what even Obama's campaign aides concede is "inflammatory rhetoric," including the assertion that the United States brought on the 9/11 attacks with its own "terrorism."

UPDATE: Politico points out that Wright actually holds a formal position with Obama's campaign:

Wright is a member of Obama's African American Religious Leadership Committee -- the sort of largely honorary, advisory body that in recent days has recently been used mostly to throw people off who say controversial things.

The Obama campaign couldn't immediately say whether he'd remain on the committee.

Jerry Falwell - republican moral majority leader - also stated soon after 911 that the terrorist attack was America's fault. He sited it as punishment for moral decline as the cause - If you're gonna get to the truth you've got to look at both sides. It must be a preacher thing.

Has Hillary lived Black in America? Most of us white people have chosen to look away from the legacies of slavery. Maybe it's time to look.

So you are saying that Obama's racist church isn't bad because Republicans have a racist preacher too. When did two wrongs make a right? Racism is Racism, Bigotry is Bigotry. It doesn't matter which side is promoting it.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 08:32 AM on 03/14/2008

Surely you don't agree with that? Moral decline?? So America is now Soddem and Gomorah? Just America?? Nowhere else in the world??? So God is biased against Americans? Sounds silly, doesn't it?
We were attacked on 9/11 because of our military presence in the "holy lands," of the middle-east. Osama has even said as much. It doesn't make what the terrorists did acceptable, but it does give them motive. We brought this on ourselves, by too much meddling in the affairs of other countries.

John McCain will be using Jeremiah Wright as third base throughout the summer....watch and see. Combine this with Michelle Obama's comments about pride and her country (or lack of) and the Obama campaign seems to be handing the general election over to the republicans for another four years.

To paraphrase Elvis Costello:

"Never knowing it's a real attraction, all these promises of satisfaction."

MOTHER JONES - Through all of her years in Washington, Clinton has been an active participant in conservative Bible study and prayer circles that are part of a secretive Capitol Hill group known as the Fellowship. Her collaborations with right-wingers such as Senator Sam Brownback (R-Kan.) and former Senator Rick Santorum (R-Pa.) grow in part from that connection. "A lot of evangelicals would see that as just cynical exploitation," says the Reverend Rob Schenck, a former leader of the militant anti-abortion group Operation Rescue who now ministers to decision makers in Washington. "I don't....there is a real good that is infected in people when they are around Jesus talk, and open Bibles, and prayer.". . .

When Clinton first came to Washington in 1993, one of her first steps was to join a Bible study group. For the next eight years, she regularly met with a Christian "cell" whose members included Susan Baker, wife of Bush consigliere James Baker; Joanne Kemp, wife of conservative icon Jack Kemp; Eileen Bakke, wife of Dennis Bakke, a leader in the anti-union Christian management movement; and Grace Nelson, the wife of Senator Bill Nelson, a conservative Florida Democrat.

Clinton's prayer group was part of the Fellowship (or "the Family"), a network of sex-segregated cells of political, business, and military leaders dedicated to "spiritual war" on behalf of Christ, many of them recruited at the Fellowship's only public event, the annual National Prayer Breakfast. (Aside from the breakfast, the group has "made a fetish of being invisible," former Republican Senator William Armstrong has said.) The Fellowship believes that the elite win power by the will of God, who uses them for his purposes. Its mission is to help the powerful understand their role in God's plan.

Clinton declined our requests for an interview about her faith,

I think it's a little too late for that..20 years of participation, they were married by him, Obamas children were baptized by him..I heard he recently donated over twenty thousand dollars to his church..To just say "Barack should dump him" is a too little, too late as far as I'm concerned..
I would say that America needs to step back and take a closer look at who Barack Obama really is!!

The relation Obama has to his church is important. Very important.

It is where many of his supporters come from. It is the religious politics he preaches on the campaign stump. It is a continuation of 1968. It is what 1968 evolved into over the last 40 years. Revolutionary Christianity doctrines. Revolutionary Political doctrines.

I have had many persons contact me that I knew in 1968 - wanting me to vote for Obama.

If the country wants to know Obama, the press needs to follow up on this thread about his church and political associations.

I don't hate Obama - snowcat.

I think he is a politician like Hillary. I think he is the one who has played the race card to divide us in this primary season.

I think he may be using alot of blacks and whites who vote for him in kinda a cynical way. He preaches alot about a different America. Does he want America to look more like his church?

Who is he really? He has so little of a political record - all thinking people need to ask - who is he really?

Interesting that this story still sits in the middle of the page on the politics tab when it is dominating all of the morning cable news shows.

Meanwhile Buchanan telling motor-mouth Goff to shut up is still on the front page.

He's just like Geraldin Ferraro- old, sad and fighting old militant fights that have driven them crazy.

I have written to MSNBC to let them know I'm angry about this morning's coverage. They are talking about the pastor and showing video and making it look new and seem like it is just breaking! This was covered extensively a year ago! OLD NEWS. Joe S. and Tucker were screaming about it this morning and going on and on about 911. The fact they are both republicans says it all. They are not however bringing up any "old news" on the Clintons like Whitewater, Vince Foster, Bill's library, , travel-gate, etc, etc...

There is also old news on Joe Scarborough that he never asnwered on air to like the aide, Lori Klausutis who died in his office. There were lots of whispers about that, maybe he should answer on air to that "old news"

Tucker Carlson writes about "false" rape accusations against him in his book. Maybe he should talk on air about that "old news"!

The pastor thing has been around forever and Obama answered to it as McCain has about all his controversial supporters.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 07:56 AM on 03/14/2008

Is there old news that Obama denounced-er rejected-er denounced-er -rejected his ministers hate speech? You should bring up that old news.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 08:36 AM on 03/14/2008

Again I ask: If Obama "answered" all of this, then why does that racist still have an official position within the Obama campaign?

Maybe the good reverend would do better to encourage young blacks to stop using that word with each other? Why blame white people all the time, when their own people constantly use that word? I hate to hear the word from anyone regardless of color. Comedians use it constantly, and it really bothers me. Since the reverend rants on, screaming and using the word, he is setting a bad example, plus firing up racists in his own congregation. No all racists are white, rev. Can we look forward to more of this if Obama gets into the WH? Where are all the religious leaders who preach "unity" instead of promoting bigotry?

I support Obama and believe this reverend should be removed from his campaign committee that he is on. This person has become a distraction from the issues and either HIllary's campaign of negativity or the Republicans will make an issue out of this one. Barack needs to tell the guy thank you; however I don't want to see your connection with me take down either the church or the goals of improving the nation we both share. I feel this reverend should understand what is going on.

So now that Obama is not a Muslim, it will be nice to show the kind of Christain Church he worships in.How low can people go to stop a fellow American from winning the White House? Those who live in glass houses should not throw stones. What does the Christain faith teach us about tolerance and discrimination and adultery? If we open up the background of the Clintons backers over the past 35 years, people will see that Obama is a 'saint' compared with the 'devils' the Clintons dine with. Obama's Pastor is an idiot and I will not punish Obama for the Pastors actions.
