I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Rachael Ray

UPDATE: A representative from King World contacted Huffington Post to deny the Page Six report and to correct several inaccuracies with the Page Six article.

Some of what King World told HuffPost this morning:

The "Rachael Ray" show is one of the best talk show performers and during the recently completed February sweeps period there was only one show performed better — Dr. Phil. In today's Broadcasting & Cable you can see a story about how well we did during the February sweep that saw Oprah was down 15% from last February, Regis and Kelly was down 16%, Tyra Banks down 13% and Martha Stewart down 27%.

As you can see we are actually growing this season in a very difficult TV environment, where total viewership has been down due in part to the writer's strike.

Last season our show averaged 2,552,000 viewers per show. So far this season we are UP — averaging 2,593,000 viewers per show.

And with regard to our median age rising, yes it has, but less than 3% and the explanation for that is we have a loyal viewership that has been with us since the show launched and they had a birthday since last year!

But if we want to talk median ages in first run syndication let's talk about Regis at 56.1, Oprah at 54.6, Wheel of Fortune 64.1 and Jeopardy at 63.2. Our show has a wide appeal with audiences in all age groups.

King World also corrected the Page Six report that they are syndicating Marie Osmond's show — they are not.

ORIGINAL ITEM: Rachael Ray may be relatively new to the media scene, but she has fast developed a reputation as a demanding and difficult to work with diva. In January, two top execs at her magazine, "Every Day with Rachael Ray," walked away, leaving the staff in "turmoil" — this, after reports of discontent bubbling over at the mag.

Now, sources tell Page Six, King World is not planning to renew her contract when it expires in 2010:

Insiders say the demanding TV cook's syndicated daytime show, "Rachael Ray," carried here on WABC/Channel 7, will be getting the ax at the end of her contract.

An impeccable TV source told Page Six, "They are seriously talking about taking her off the air."

The problem is Ray's ratings. When she debuted two years ago, she had a meager 2.5 rating, which her syndicator, King World, nonetheless trumpeted as "The biggest syndicated debut since 'Dr. Phil.' " In fact, one insider said, "They had hoped for more. 'Dr. Phil' beats 'Oprah' and gets like a 5.0 rating - and Rachael's set is very expensive and elaborate; his is just chairs."

Page Six suggests that one possible replacement for Ray's time slot would be Marie Osmond, who is herself working on a talk show with King World.

If I live to be 100, I'll never understand how this woman has gotten where she is.

Her dishes on that show she used to do on Food Network have always been (and I"m being kind here) mediocre at best.

Her wild gesticulating and shrill talking (bordering on yelling at all times) are serious Speech 101 no-no's.

She doesn't (that I've seen) really have anything important to say.

Aside from an ample cup size, she's not particularly stunning (i.e. I find Sandra Lee on Food Network annoying as hell too, but I put up with her on mute cause...well, you know).

She doesn't strike me as particularly bright. I mean, what is it?

One word: Oprah. Having been presented to the world - and by "the world" I am of course referring to those go-getters who are neither working or doing anything else in the late afternoon - by Oprah from otherwise FN obsurity, Oprahs minions gobbled up this little brainiac, and another Oprah-promoted hack was born. Like Dr. Phil. Like Suze Orman. Like James Frye. Like really any of the casually educated "experts" Oprah touts.

Good for Rachel; now she'll have more time to devote to her alcoholism and much-speculated cocaine habit.

Ophra indeed. I couldn't watch Rachel's show because everytime I even thought about it, I saw her guest was someone I couldn't bear to spend time with. (example: Dr. Phil; Dr. Phil's wife Robin, Donald Trump, Jenna Bush, Kelsey Grammar, Patricia Heaton, Drew Carey, Donny Osmond; Susan Lucci; Brook Shields, Deborah Norville). Thanks, but no thanks. I'd rather visit the dentist.

"Aside from an ample cup size"

WTF?!

She's got some of the smallest boobs in America. Unless you were talking about her thighs/hips/butt, she IS deliciously ample there.

And why is everyone treating this woman as if she was Morton Downey Jr.? What, really, has she done to deserve the vitriol here? You people are bloodless heathens all swept up in provactive blogging. Oh, the HYSTERIA! Rachel Ray fired!! SHE DESERVES IT THAT WITCH! What is this overflow from the "hate Clinton" cup? YEAH LET RACHEL RAY HAVE IT TOO! SHE THINKS SHE'S SOMEBODY! SHE'S NOTHING BUT A LOUDMOUTH ATTENTION WHORE! You people REALLY fucking suck and you should get a hobby other than spouting non-sense about everyone you dislike. GET A LIFE!

I like to cook, I watch the Food Network a great deal and I find her talent as a chef to be questionable at best. If you're passionate about cooking, watching Miss Ray is painful because she has such poor technique and her recipes are just not that appealing. When I watch a cooking show I would like to believe that the person I'm watching has more knowledge than I do. Watching a phony "expert" bugs me. Additionally, I find her manner and particularly her voice to be a grating distraction to whatever she is doing. So I don't watch.

Cute as all hell, but grating in equal measure.

I liked her better when she made short guest appearances on other shows.

I have been puzzled by her ascendancy. I can cook fast and stupid but I never thought it had a market on TV. I know how to use canned mushroom soup.

I stop watching any show as soon as greed takes over.

Stopped Oprah when "She" had mass media attention and took credit for giving away new cars (did she pay for the cars? No); stopped Rachel (and Paula Deen) when networks started running two shows each, plus they began marketing mags, books, cookware and all their relatives got into the act); stopped Dr. Phil when he got all his family into the act; recently, I stopped Martha when she gave an audience member a cheap gold handbag and kept the more expensive leather handbag for herself.

One exception was Rosie, who always seemed to be a giver and not a taker. I stopped watching The View when she left though just because it was boring without her.

If Ms. Ray is canned here, it just means that her public venues have been reduced to a mere 1,999,999. I'm a big fan of Food TV but even I can't watch any of her FTV shows. Fat lot of good that does me: she smirks at me from magazine articles, from book covers, from kitchen gadget packaging ..... The last time I shopped at Bed Bath and Beyond, she haunted me at every turn.

Her agents haven't managed to project her image on to the face of the moon. No doubt that's next. They might want to look up the phrase "over exposed."

Rachel Ray is nauseating.
I'd love it if she was no longer on TV anymore.
I'd do even better if I didn't have to see her annoyingly perky grin staring me down every time I reach for a box of Wheat Thins, or whatever dumb cracker box she's on.

Ray should contact MSNBC about getting a show. Since Tucker got canned there is an opening for a loud-mouthed blowhard over there.

Count me as another who finds Rachel Ray's cuteness cloying and nauseating. Bye, Bye Rachel!

By the way, that reminds me of a great recipe using marshmellows, Kraft Cheese Dinners, and canned asparagus!!

I vote with them for getting rid of Rachel. I can't watch her. I watch tv to relax and she buzzes around, uses cutesy phrases and makes me very uncomfortable.
She seems a nice person but not entertainment .

Totally biased photo. Take pictures of anyone talking, and you can get one of those. Used to make her look ridiculous.
