Bill\'s Ex-Counsel: Hillary Is

Bill's Ex-Counsel: Hillary Is "Misleading The American Public"

Greg Craig, former counsel to Bill Clinton and now Obama supporter, sat down for an interview with National Journal. His comments reflected more strongly a memo he had penned last week, suggesting that Hillary's claims of experience were overblown. An excerpt from the interview:

Q: But was that experience, do you think, that is -- having a lot of influence with advisers, giving private advice to her husband -- was that experience that has helped prepare her to be commander in chief?

Craig: Oh, I don't doubt that. The point that I am making is that her claims of the nature of that experience are overstated. The fact is she did not sit in on national security meetings. She did not have a security clearance. She did not attend meetings in the situation room. She conducted no negotiations. She did not manage any part of the national security bureaucracy. She did not have her own national security staff. That's the fact. Now the experience that she did have -- watching and sometimes sitting in the room where discussions were going on and also meeting heads of state and foreign ministers -- that is good experience, and it's invaluable to understanding how the world works when it comes to international organizations as well as international negotiations.

Read the whole interview here.

The Clinton camp responded quickly, noting a contradiction between this statement and other statements. Only last week Craig claimed:

When your entire campaign is based upon a claim of experience, it is important that you have evidence to support that claim. Hillary Clinton's argument that she has passed "the Commander- in-Chief test" is simply not supported by her record.

The comments by Craig come at a time when the Clinton camp is facing increasing scrutiny over the former First Lady's record.

The Boston Globe reported this morning that Sen. Clinton had less to do with the passage of the SCHIP program in the early 90s, and cites Republican Orrin Hatch who, with Sen. Ted Kennedy, helped spear the legislation:

"The White House wasn't for it. We really roughed them up" in trying to get it approved over the Clinton administration's objections, Hatch said in an interview. "She may have done some advocacy [privately] over at the White House, but I'm not aware of it."

"I do like her," Hatch said of Hillary Clinton. "We all care about children. But does she deserve credit for SCHIP? No - Teddy does, but she doesn't."

I clearly remember Senator Orin Hatch defending himself before the Utah Republican Party. They were charging him with the unforgivable sin of collaborating with Senator Edward Kennedy (of all people) to pass the children’s healthcare program. He was unrepentant. He told them that the health of poor children took precedence to party politics.
Hillary Clinton’s claim to have crafted this legislation is patently false. So is her claim to have played a role in the Irish Peace Process or the process in Kosovo.
She has brazenly falsified her resume. No Board of Directors would knowingly here a chief executive if they knew she had falsified her resume. Nor should we elect a president who had falsified hers.
I think we need above all a president whom we can trust to tell us the unvarnished truth.
We do not need another George Bush exaggerating the data to sell us a bill of goods.

She lied about the children's health care legislation. She lied about her role in the N. Ireland peace process and she lied about her role in Kosovo.

How come Gore got mocked endlessly as an exaggerator for "inventing the internet" (something he never claimed), but Hillary gets a pass on all these absurd claims of foreign policy roles?

Her experience is minimal. But, more to the point, her judgment, selection of advisors, leadership skills and honesty are not "passing the threshhold".

Northern Ireland is a long ways from the U.S., the people, the voters, our children, our Freedom, which she never addreses.
Just check the 1996 bill submitted to congress by Hillary Clinton and look who saved all America's butts, which includes all our children. Please begin your learning experience here:

As far as foreign policy experience, I do believe that Obama would cave into and appease the Islamo supremacists and toss Israel under the bus faster than Hillary. None of them seem to have a clue that the only reason jihad stalled for the last 6 centuries was because of technological backwardness that petrodollars is erasing daily.

Lemme get this straight . . . . So your point is Hillary like Obama will eventually "toss Israel under the bus"? You're talking about their mutual caving into "Islamo supremacists" or "Arabists" (there is a difference)? The "Jihad" that has been "stalled for the last 6 centuries" is being eroded because of OPEC funding is America's problem because . . . .?

The Foreign Policy experience we Americans should look for in a Presidential Candidate goes far beyond the "special interests" of the State of Israel and their relationship with "Arab and/or Muslim" neighbors in the region. What's good for the U.S. is not necessarily always what's best for Israel and vise versa. Let's be clear, stability in the region stabilizes oil prices (America's ultimate goal & reward), the "security" of Israel and it's People has always been secondary.

So you want to elect someone who will continue to send petrodollars to the middle east? WTF are you autistic or something? Coked up perhaps and just contradicting yourself at 300 mph?

I don't understand what is supposedly contradictory between this interview answer and the previous statement that is subsequently quoted. In both places he's saying her experience claim is overblown and her claim to have passed this fictional "commander in chief threshold" is bogus.

Re: Hillary and SCHIP

Check these news reports:

From an October 6, 2007 Associated Press article:

The effort was revived, with Kennedy, Hatch and a coalition of advocacy groups ranging from the Children's Defense Fund to the Girl Scouts lobbying hard. Kennedy made a special appeal to the first lady, who added her pressure anew.

"The children's health program wouldn't be in existence today if we didn't have Hillary pushing for it from the other end of Pennsylvania Avenue," Kennedy told The Associated Press.

President Clinton signed the bill in August 1997.

While Kennedy is widely viewed as the driving force behind the program, by all accounts the former first lady's pressure was crucial.

"She wasn't a legislator, she didn't write the law, and she wasn't the president, so she didn't make the decisions," says Nick Littlefield, then a senior health adviser to Kennedy. "But we relied on her, worked with her and she was pivotal in encouraging the White House to do it."

http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articl es/2007/10/06/clinton_claims_credit_for_ child_program/

From an August 11, 2000, New York Times article:

Among her other accomplishments, Mrs. Clinton said she helped to initiate and promote the Children's Health Insurance Program, created by Congress in 1997 to provide $24 billion over five years to states to insure children.

"She was a one-woman army inside the White House to get this done," Mr. Littlefield of the Health, Education and Labor Committee said. He said that he and Senator Kennedy, the Massachusetts Democrat who was the major force behind the bill, enlisted Mrs. Clinton's help in the spring of 1997 when the president became "skittish" about the program. Mr. Littlefield said the Senate majority leader, Trent Lott, was threatening that it was a "deal buster" on the balanced budget agreement that he and Mr. Clinton had reached.

"At that point we went to Mrs. Clinton and said, 'You've got to get the president to come around on this thing,' " Mr. Littlefield said. "And she said, 'Absolutely.' And we very quickly noticed a change. The president was very much on board."

I'm a Obama supporter, but I am beginning to wonder about the media being more concerned about their drama ratings than the welfare of this country. I'm beginning to believe they are the people benefiting fromt the Obama Clinton side show and what would be better for their ratings than for McCrazy to win the presidency. I can see the headlines now....."Democrates lose again". Just a thought.

Just now you're beginning to worry about the media being too sensationalized? Not getting enough real info? Too much Britney Spears for ya? You learn as much as you can about Obama and you go out into the world around you and TELL people. The media is no substitute for a trusted friend and most people don't pay as much attention as you. They are very easy to convert to Obama unless they happen to be white people over 50. Don't even bother unless it helps you point out to the other demographics how misguided they are by watching too much TV.

Is this the same Greg Craig that was named chairman and CEO ( about 3 1/2 weeks ago) of Commerce Energy, a leading U.S. electricity and natural gas marketing company ? If so, then this man has about 15 years worth of experience in the private sector heading up multi-billion dollar Energy Supply services companies..
At one time I understand that he worked as senior advisor on defense foreign policy & nat sec issues for Ted K for many years .
Is it true that he now works as a senior foreign policy advisor to Sen Obama? If that is the case, will Mr Craig have to resign that post to avoid conflict of interest (senior foreign policy advisor/working in private corporate sector-multi billion dollar elect & natural gas marketing company). I mean, how will that look to the public- especially when, as a senior foreign policy advisor he will have to be working with Z.Brzenszki -who is known to have had at one time (and may still have) a VERY strong interest in US control over Iran for-yes you guessed it- oil & gas in that part of the world. http://www.infowars.com/?p=370

Also, I'm confused. How could Mr Craig intimately know about Sen Clinton's involvement/experience in foreign affairs? I understand that Mr Craig's main role while serving for pres Clinton was to defend Pres Clinton against impeachment.So...what need would Mr Craig have had to know the full extent of Sen Clinton's foreign experience while in the White House?

Call me naive but...since Mr Craig worked for Sen Ted Kennedy for about 5 years, and Sen Kennedy endorsed Sen Obama for president just before the Mass primary (along with Caroline Kennedy, John Kerry & Maria Shriver) which didnt help Mr Obama because he lost Mass but I digress..

Anyway, my point is...can I trust any statement made by Mr Craig? Also, just curious, why didnt the reporter who covered this story note this 'employment history & relationship background of Mr Craig.

Sorry but I can't trust anything Sen Ted Kennedy (or any of his friends) says anymore. He lost my respect when he endorsed Sen Obama just before the Mass primary without really explaining on what basis he was doing this.
Knowing now what I have learned during my research on Sen Obama's voting record (which explains how he has won the support of many conservatives and republicans because he VOTES LIKE THEM) and watching him in action during his speeches (he has support of liberals and progressives because he feeds them what they want to hear so they can feel all warm & fuzzy ) I am furious with Sen Kennedy, Oprah. Caroline Kennedy, Maria Shriver. John Kerry and MoveOn.org for the GREAT deception they are trying to pass on to us. So, I wouldnt believe a word of what Mr Craig is saying about Sen Clintons lack of experience. Sounds like another swift boat attack if you ask me. You remember how that works right- a Kennedy or Obama tries to diminish the important accomplishments of Sen Clinton's foreign affairs work through lies and makes her appear like she is a liar for talking proudly about her accomplishments. Please...this country has "been there, done that, and got the t-shirt". How about you make nice Sen Kennedy and start talking about .oh I dont know...maybe Iraq, Iran, NSPD-51, and if we have leftover time maybe we could chat about Sen Obama's VERY DECEPTIVE voting record ?

I am not really interested right now in his relationships with his church. If you want to really get to know a politician- follow the money AND dissect his/her voting record and go over it with a fine tooth comb-like many indep journalists have done for us.I don’t want to sound like I am nagging sir,,,but… We need to discuss this...This is important.VERY VERY important. http://www.beyondchron.org/articles/The_Obama_Craze_Count_Me_Out_5413.html

It seems that Bill and Hillary have very few Loyal People on their side. I remember when they campaigned and raved about Barack Obama only now to have him run against her.

I guess it is the easy and poplular position to get on the Rock Star Obama Band Wagon.

I like both but I do think Hillary has more experience and know how with how to get things done. Let's face it-she and Bill have been around long enough to know where the Bodies are buried and can coerce change out of the members of Congress.

Instead of the Audacity of Hope how about the Audacity of running against someone that supported you in the beginning and then sounding appalled at a combined ticket.

The Dems are going to Screw this up and we will get McCain. The best thing that could happen really is a Clinton/Obama Ticket. Egos will probably not let this happen.

I do not believe anyone can even think of letting this type of action come close to happening again...Total deception.
Why does Hillary dismiss the voters in the small states? Just look at the congressional records on her past. For the people? America, or for her own gain. You be the judge: http://www.eagleforum.org/psr/1998/dec98/psrdec98.html

I think Hilary's making a mistake claiming " experience" from achieving anything as first lady,.She's be better off just talking about collaborating with people in the senate, tho' it was only 2 terms.I mean Bush got in on much less. She could claim lots of experience dealing with the public, the media and understanding how politics works and that wouldn't be misleading.
