Bill's Ex-Counsel: Hillary Is "Misleading The American Public"

Greg Craig, former counsel to Bill Clinton and now Obama supporter, sat down for an interview with National Journal. His comments reflected more strongly a memo he had penned last week, suggesting that Hillary's claims of experience were overblown. An excerpt from the interview:

Q: But was that experience, do you think, that is -- having a lot of influence with advisers, giving private advice to her husband -- was that experience that has helped prepare her to be commander in chief?

Craig: Oh, I don't doubt that. The point that I am making is that her claims of the nature of that experience are overstated. The fact is she did not sit in on national security meetings. She did not have a security clearance. She did not attend meetings in the situation room. She conducted no negotiations. She did not manage any part of the national security bureaucracy. She did not have her own national security staff. That's the fact. Now the experience that she did have -- watching and sometimes sitting in the room where discussions were going on and also meeting heads of state and foreign ministers -- that is good experience, and it's invaluable to understanding how the world works when it comes to international organizations as well as international negotiations.

Read the whole interview here.

The Clinton camp responded quickly, noting a contradiction between this statement and other statements. Only last week Craig claimed:

When your entire campaign is based upon a claim of experience, it is important that you have evidence to support that claim. Hillary Clinton's argument that she has passed "the Commander- in-Chief test" is simply not supported by her record.

The comments by Craig come at a time when the Clinton camp is facing increasing scrutiny over the former First Lady's record.

The Boston Globe reported this morning that Sen. Clinton had less to do with the passage of the SCHIP program in the early 90s, and cites Republican Orrin Hatch who, with Sen. Ted Kennedy, helped spear the legislation:

"The White House wasn't for it. We really roughed them up" in trying to get it approved over the Clinton administration's objections, Hatch said in an interview. "She may have done some advocacy [privately] over at the White House, but I'm not aware of it."

"I do like her," Hatch said of Hillary Clinton. "We all care about children. But does she deserve credit for SCHIP? No - Teddy does, but she doesn't."

And this Einstein also slept in the Clinton's bedroom with them?

I'm embarrassed that Arianna will now evidently post *anything* that reflects poorly on Hillary.

Must have the same kind of demented agenda that she has/had with Tim Russert.

Obama will never get my vote.

We've had experienced Presidents in the past - James Bucanan - said to be the most experienced President to date - also has the distinction of the worst president. Richard Nixon had tons of experience - look where that got him.

I suppose experience is a good thing when the incoming President is also an intelligent thinker with the inborn ability of superior judgement. Lacking all the experience in the world and beyond (as Hillary seems to claim) judgement would have served us all better after 9/11. Hillary's first judgement call was to vote to give President Bush the war powers to invade Iraq and she made that judgement call without reading the NIE. That's a pretty sad case for experience and the proper judgement call. She voted with Kyl/Lieberman and against Levin. More judgement calls that to me she has failed.

I'll take Obama since he made the right judgement calls that Hillary ignored. His change I tend to believe.

This same delusional thinking led her to authorize the Iraq war. She recently said she wishes she did not vote for the war. Well it is a little late. Tell it to the widows and orphans why our brave soldiers died based on her decisions and "experience". How about an apology too.

We need someone who can think ahead and not make these kind of mistakes.

And where are those tax returns? Are we supposed to take her word that that she is honest?

Based on what she has said and done, she would make a great Republican candidate.

Isn't it funny that many people who worked for the government during the Clinton administration and/or worked for the Clintons in any capacity end up disliking HIllary Clinton? She must be hell on wheels.

Which Hillary do you know?
From Mother Jones.....Hillary's Prayer: Hillary Clinton's Religion and Politics
For 15 years, Hillary Clinton has been part of a secretive religious group that seeks to bring Jesus back to Capitol Hill. Is she triangulating—or living her faith?"

It was an elegant example of the Clinton style, a rhetorical maneuver subtle, bold, and banal all at once. During a Democratic candidate forum in June, hosted by the liberal evangelical group Sojourners, Hillary Clinton fielded a softball query about Bill's infidelity: How had her faith gotten her through the Lewinsky scandal?

After a glancing shot at Republican "pharisees," Clinton explained that, of course, her "very serious" grounding in faith had helped her weather the affair. But she had also relied on the "extended faith family" that came to her aid, "people whom I knew who were literally praying for me in prayer chains, who were prayer warriors for me."

Such references to spiritual warfare—prayer as battle against Satan, evil, and sin—might seem like heavy evangelical rhetoric for the senator from New York, but they went over well with the Sojourners audience, as did her call to "inject faith into policy." It was language that recalled Clinton's Jesus moment a year earlier, when she'd summoned the Bible to decry a Republican anti-immigrant initiative that she said would "criminalize the good Samaritan...and even Jesus himself." Liberal Christians crowed ("Hillary Clinton Shows the Way Democrats Can Use the Bible," declared a blogger at TPMCafe) while conservative pundits cried foul, accusing Clinton of scoring points with a faith not really her own

In fact, Clinton's God talk is more complicated—and more deeply rooted—than either fans or foes would have it, a revelation not just of her determination to out-Jesus the gop, but of the powerful religious strand in her own politics. Over the past year, we've interviewed dozens of Clinton's friends, mentors, and pastors about her faith, her politics, and how each shapes the other. And while media reports tend to characterize Clinton's subtle recalibration of tone and style as part of the Democrats' broader move to recapture the terrain of "moral values," those who know her say there's far more to it than that.

Wait a damn minute here.

If you are going to hold Hillary to the facts, then you must be a male who is threatened by a strong woman

Next you are going to say that it is wrong of Hillary to demand that the Dem nominee should be whoever wins Pennsylvania, and that delegates won, number of primary wins, the popular vote and super delegates should all be ignored. If you do things like that how do you expect The Lying Bitch to steal the election?

I don't know how much her experience as first lady count. It seems like when she was first lady she was seen as being too involved. I think Barbara Bush said in her book that Hillary was overstepping the bounds of what the first lady should do. I read just recently that someone had said Gore clearly took a back seat to Hillary in her husbands administration. I don't know if any of that is true but it seems that her opponents pretty much fed her that line and now they want to say that it doesn't really count as experience.

I TRULY CAN'T BELIEVE MY EYES AND EARS!
I CAN'T BELEIVE WHAT IS HAPPENING IN AMERICA TODAY!
Here we have what can be considered 'mainstream' media and MSNBC is going to have Barack Obama on their channel to explain his position..usually I would not have a problem with this, yet the thing that shocks me is that this is the same station and the same program that 'railed' extensively and without consideration against Hillary Clinton who, last time I checked was a Democrat running for President and she did not get that same privilage!
This is TOTALLY Disgusting!!
MSNBC Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews have been deplorable and sexist in the most ugliest of fashions!
SHAME ON THEM AND SHAME ON MAINSTREAM MEDIA FOR LETTING THIS DEPLORABLE BEHAVIOR CONTINUE!!!

I think the bottom line question is;

What is the Commander-in-Chief Threshold test? This is not an easy question to answer and no true test.

However, what test the candidates should pass is sound judgement, level headed reasoning, and surrounding yourself with intelligent and open-minded advisors that can raise objections and not be brought to their knees. You must have advisors from all walks of life, ability, experience, and views to throw all the cards on the table before making decisions. We all know that Bush failed that test miserably.

Barack has brought all races, ages, genders and political parties together in this country that hasn't been seen since the Kennedy's. While I'll point out the Barack is not JFK or Bobby, he does have an inate ability that is rarely seen in politics.

Has Hillary shown she is this type of person? No.
Has Barack shown he is this type of person? Yes.

The Clinton's have a history of revenge for those that don't agree, which indicates she will surround herself with 'yes' men and women.
