"Republican presidential candidate John McCain said on Friday he fears that al Qaeda or another extremist group might attempt spectacular attacks in Iraq to try to tilt the U.S. election against him," Reuters reports.

McCain, at a town hall meeting in this Philadelphia suburb, was asked if he had concerns that anti-American militants in Iraq might ratchet up their activities in Iraq to try to increase casualties in September or October and tip the November election against him.

"Yes, I worry about it," McCain said. "And I know they pay attention because of the intercepts we have of their communications ... The hardest thing in warfare is to counter someone or a group of individuals who are willing to take their own lives in order to take others."

TPM's Greg Sargent notes: "You know, I keep hearing from Republican pundits and operatives that the specter of terrorism inevitably bolsters the electoral prospects of Republicans. But here McCain says that Al Qaeda would amp up their attacks in Iraq to hurt him. Hard to keep track of this stuff sometimes."

What a terrible comment made by Senator McCain. He is clearly smart enough to realize that this comment implies that two honorable US Senators are on the side of Al Quida. If this is an example of McCain's judgement, it represents dramatic proof that he is NOT fit to serve as President of the United States.

All righty, McSane, repeat after me:

Al. Qaeda. Does. Not. Differentiate. Between. Democrats. And. Republicans.

"Democrat" and "Republican" mean about as much to them as "Sunni" and "Shia" do to you.

And that's the problem.

Really! I was pretty sure they were going to do something to tip the elections to
the Republicans.
Democrats want out this quagmire in Iraq. The terrorists and their Jihad want to continue
the madness because they love killing Americans. Like blowing up fish in a barrel.

Could be wrong though?

There is no way they could get us, because the republicans have done such a great job of keeping us safer.

This again? My god, do they really believe the American public is so stupid....oh but wait. Remember how Bush got re-elected? This tactic seems to work and it may work again. Thing is that this time, it's starting too early. McCain should have waited until Halloween. Now there's too much time for the Dems to diffuse it. Hopefully.

Gee, McCain...saying stuff like that as if you were comfortable with the assumption that everybody in America is stupid enough to believe it is not a very good way of getting my vote...

Not likely, Jonno.

More likely, if it "intervened" at all it would be in your favor.

Remember, Osama came not to bring peace to the mideast, but a sword.

Saddam was one of his chief antagonists , and Dumbo obliged him by "removing" him.

At what cost.

Anyway, I think Ossie likes the idea of continuing US "commitment" and"nation building" under another Bushite regime just fine, thanks.

Now, the question is: what can he do to tilt it in your favor?

Dems have done way too little to counter Republican SLANDER and LIBEL that terrorists think they'd have it any easier under a Dem president or Congress.

Same as the old "liberals don't love our country like we do" drivel, or Rove's "we will protect you and they won't" lies.

Actual terrorists, those who use terrorist tactics, not just those who oppose American interests, do not care one whit which American party or president holds office, any more than they care who wins the Super Bowl or World Series.

When Dems don't fight back, gullible voters get scammed. Not that they don't deserve it, but the rest of us also suffer from Republican lies and gullible voters.

I doubt it...they are having to much fun watching the republicans take this country to hell in a basket, presiding over the worst economy in several generations

A ridiculous and moronic assertion with no reasonable evidence to back it...very Republican.

McBush is a republican, i.e., a liar and spreader of fear and intolerance. A vote for a republican is a vote for an elitist class who will eat your babies and laugh in your face while doing so.
