Pi Day: Time To Party!
Calling all math nerds! (It's OK -- haven't you heard? Geeks are the new chic!)
Today, March 14, is Pi Day. Get it? 3/14? 3.14? Pi? C'mon, 8th Grade was not that long ago!
But, in case you need a refresher course, pi is the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter.
In honor of Pi Day, (and much like our favorite friend in our 9th Grade math class) we've done the work for you: We've searched the internet far and wide and found the best ways for you to celebrate Pi Day. (In other words, we found a couple fantastic blogs that had already done the work for us. Namely this one, at The New York Times, and this one, which seems to be written by the math teacher we never had.)
So, without further ado:
If you're bored at work, you can live out your dreams of geek chic and calculate pi using Buffon's Needle. (Yes, that's the real name.)
If you're as hungover as some of us, and needles don't really do it for you, you can also calculate pi using hot dogs. (Who doesn't like hot dogs?)
For subway riders and sudoku fanatics everywhere, you can play the unofficial Pi Day Sudoku Puzzle.
If you love pie (yes, the edible kind), you can compose a pi-ku (read: a haiku about pi) and submit it to the TierneyLab , which is where we got most of this fun stuff anyway. If yours is the best, you can pick the pie of your choice AND the delivery date. Whee!
