Daily Kos:

This is an open letter to the progressive blogosphere...

I've been posting at DailyKos for nearly 4 years now and started writing diaries in support of Hillary Clinton back in June of last year. Over the past few months I've noticed that things have become progressively more abusive toward my candidate and her supporters.

I've put up with the abuse and anger because I've always believed in what our on-line community has tried to accomplish in this world. No more. DailyKos is not the site it once was thanks to the abusive nature of certain members of our community.

I've decided to go on "strike" and will refrain from posting here as long as the administrators allow the more disruptive members of our community to trash Hillary Clinton and distort her record without any fear of consequence or retribution. I will not be posting at DailyKos effective immediately. I will not help drive up traffic or page-hits as long as my candidate - a good and fine DEMOCRAT - is attacked in such a horrid and sexist manner not only by other diarists, but by several of those posting to the front page.

Since when it is wrong to be against lies and propaganda? Clinton supporters, in my experience, are always trying to pedal rhetorical questions that no one can answer, but then when Obama supporters bring THEM down out the clouds and give a reasonable explanation they refuse to concede the point.
Just like the person they support. I'm glad this person is not blogging today. Another day with the spreading of propaganda i.e. Hillary Clinton brought peace to Ireland, she brought down the wall, and invented the internet.

As someone who reads the Daily Kos...daily...this is actually a nice break.
There are positive posters for both candidates, and bat-shit crazy posters for both candidates.
This "strike" will keep the nuttier ones apart for a while, leading to actual discussions on the site.
Every thread would devolve once the nuts came out to play.

That being said, a good chunk of the "strikers" will not be missed by me. They can see everything wrong with Obama, but cannot see any problems with Clinton. Both candidates have issues...grow-up already! (This also applies to the jerkier Obama supporters)

To the Clinton supporters who have decided to stay on Kos even though you are out numbered, good on ya.

Now more than ever Alegre and the Clinton supporters at the Daily Kos should continue posting. If they feel that passionately about their candidate and feel that Clinton has been trashed and misrepresented by members of their community at Daily Kos, why would they begin a boycott? This is the critical time when they must defend and stand up for their candidate.

The democratic presidential candidates have generated a wellspring of deep visceral emotions within their supporters. Those that support Obama mirror the same deep-seated convictions as Clinton supporters. The intensity, the emotionalism is overwhelming and so too is the rhetoric that accompanies it.

If they had firmly believed that Clinton was the ideal democratic candidate for the presidency, they would have continued posting until the end at the Democratic National Convention in August. Or in their case, it was too hot in the kitchen and they had to get out.

Oh, bother! If either one of our media-approved, centrist candidates get elected, it won't be because of the thoughtful, persuasive skills of the true believers warming their hind ends at bonfires of vanity in both camps. What troubles me, however, is this anecdotal experiment I did on comments here last weekend: tracking two stories, one slightly favoring Clinton and the other heavily favoring Obama, the ratio of people vowing to not vote at all or to vote for McCain or Nader if Clinton got the nomination outpaced the people who would not vote for Obama 8 to one. Make of that what you will, my little sunshine liberals.

Personally, I think a strike is a mistake. As an Obama supporter, I'd like to see just the opposite. Every time I ask Clinton supporters on this site to tell me why they support her, all I get are Obama insults. Looking at her record, I found a number of reasons myself, and posted them, and I didn't get any Clinton supporters on the bandwagon.

I don't know how it is on Kos, because I don't read that site as extensively as I read this one, but I know that here, Obama supporters can list his bio, his legislative actions, his position on issues at the drop of a hat. I don't see the same thing from Clinton supporters. The best way to fight anti-Clinton nastiness is to post what she's done, why you support her. I'd love to read something like that here. i never see it.

BTW, just kidding about the Vince Foster thing, but I just couldn't resist.

I read the Daily Kos almost every day and my opinion about the Hillary supporters is that they get very upset when Obama supporters point out the facts about Hillary, ie her voting record, the Clinton White House scandals, her refusal to release tax returns, earmark lists, White House records & Bill's library donor list.

Much of the back and forth started AFTER Hillary's campaign went negative. As you give so shall you receive. Obama may be trying to run a positive campaign but his supporters are not willing to let Clinton fans get away with some of the tripe they have tried passing off as fact on the Daily Kos and other sites.

So what does this Hillary fan do? Makes a public announcement that he/she will boycott Daily Kos if the Obama supporters will not make nice. Strategy yes. Good strategy, no. While this will get attention and the Clinton campaign may try to cry victim again, it won't work. Hillary Clinton is not a victim and more and more people are waking up to that fact.

Hillary is trying to use everything possible to avoid talking about her voting record, her investments and her tax returns because they indicate who she truly represents and it is not the common people she is trying to get the necessary support from. You don't go from being broke and in debt when leaving the White House to having a net worth of over $50 million since Bush has been in office without selling out to the wealthy and corporate special interests.

TruthBeTold4us:

The Truth Be Told, can be found in your venom filled defamatory anti Hillary post all over these pages. If you want some... ask me, I'll be happy to post them for all to see. That is if the Huff Post - doesn't squelch them of course. But then again, anyone who isn't deaf dumb and blind.. knows the truth and frankly is totally sickened by not only the Obama camp's hate filled diatribes - but also the media's deliberate defamatory distortions against Hillary. It's gotten way past the point of bias. The whole world is talking about it. They're in shock and awe over it. Time to explain Obama's racist mentor for a change, no. Time to tell the truth for a change, no? Time to discuss Obama's judgment for a change, no?

>> the media's deliberate defamatory distortions against Hillary

Can you point us to even one hard news story that fits this description? And while you're at it, show us one example of a "hate filled diatribe" that was put forth by the Obama campaign - not some anonymous blogger, mind you, because examples of that are abundant on both sides, but an actual statement from the campaign.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:17 PM on 03/16/2008

I see no such defaming either. And no "hate filled diatribe" from Obama's camp. Sources?

Sorry that your candidate that you've sworn by has turned out to be quite a mess. She voted for the patriot act TWICE. No real progressive person, let alone self-respecting American, would support the patriot act. Do you blind supporters understand this?

Yes, everyone is entitled to an opinion. But, not everyone is capable of objective thought, reasoning, and rationality. In fact, the majority of humans are not capable of these indicators of advanced thought. And quite frequently, I see Clinton supporters show none of these characteristics.

Didi47, you're drinking the Clinton koolaid. Wake up! The "media's deliberate defamatory distortions against Hillary." Hmmm, what about the photo Hillary's camp allegedly released of Obama's visit to Kenya? How about Ferraro's ridiculous, racist remarks in defense of Hillary? What about the SNL skits that seemed to favor Hillary. In my humble opinion, the media is more biased toward Hillary than Obama but more and more that seems to depend on what candidate you support.

Truth,

Really astute comments; thank you.

It will always be a source of fascination that the Hillary and Bill campaign (and its supporters) feel both entitled to the nomination, and annoyed when legitimate criticisms are leveled at their behavior.

This couple really assume they are privileged; they project an arrogance that is breathtaking; they are un-Democratic; they are a poor reflection of the very basic principles of the Demcratic Party.

Hillary Clinton cannot win a general election.

The biggest giggle of the day is your saying that Hillary supporters get very upset when Obama supporters point out the facts about Hillary. I know you really mean they get very upset because of the non stop abusive lies about Hillary - that have and can be evidenced throughout these pages for the last 3 months. Your handle is a perfect example of the dishonesty and your own disdain for truth. And Hillary supporters are rightfully upset as any honest person should be.

Now about Obama's anti American racist pastor and good friend of 20 years. What do you think about that hitting the newswaves? Are you happy Americans are seeing the facts about Obama for a change? High time don't you think, that the voter be allowed to see what he's about and what drives him.

Didi, is there no one in your family or close circle of friends who says things you don't approve of?

When it comes down to statements I disagree with, sure, there are lots made by SUPPORTERS of Barack Obama, and of Hillary Clinton and of just about anyone else popular enough to have supporters.

But when it comes down to statements made by the actual people themselves, or by people in their campaigns so highly placed that they're almost certainly "on message", approved by the candidate, well, I'll take the message I'm hearing from Obama and his staff over the message I'm hearing from Clinton and hers any day.

It's sad, it really is. I used to respect the Clintons a lot, felt the held up quite well under a rather unfair barrage of negative publicity and witch hunts that would have felled most people. Throw enough mud against the wall, sooner or later some of it sticks.

But now I'm starting to see some of what people have been disliking about the Clintons this long.

I was a John Edwards guy, back when this all started. I went to see all of them speak (dem and rep alike), which is one of the benefits I get living in NH. Edwards had, to me, the best combination of A) grasp of what's wrong, B) ideas on how to solve it, and C) actual honest-to-goodness caring about the people who he was hoping to have elect him.

When Edwards dropped out of the race, I was kind of lost for a candidate for a while. So I started paying attention. Obama is an idealist and seems slightly naive, but Clinton seems calculating in much the same way we've all come to hate these last seven years. And she shows an appalling lack of solidarity with the Democratic party when she makes statements like "John McCain and I have passed the Commander in Chief test, Obama has made speeches". There's no other way to read this than "If I don't get the nomination, I'm supporting John McCain".

You like Clinton, and that's fine. But it'd be nice if you'd stop assuming that your candidate is all sweetness and light, and that anything anyone can say bad about her MUST be a lie. There's plenty to dislike about Hillary Clinton based solely on her conduct in this campaign, completely aside from behavior of supporters, which the candidate really has no control over.

Liam.

The idea that they are doing their candidate any favors by basically silencing themselves seems as logical as any of their moves lately.

After blaming the ref on every call for the past three months, they've taken their ball and they've gone home.

Anyone who calls themselves a progressive and/or liberal and still supports Hillary Clinton is someone who is filled with self-hatred.

The phrase " a Clinton progressive" is an oxymoron. There is no such thing. The Clinton's are and always have been centrist-conservatives. If, like these "Clinton-progressives" you have never heard of them, you should google the DLC. The DLC was originally headed by Joe Lieberman and Bill Clinton. The DLC is not a liberal or progressive organization. Just because Lieberman takes one progressive issue, the environment, and champions it doesn't make him a progressive, his record is one of a neocon conservative on all other issues.

But the worst thing about the fake Clinton/Lieberman democrats is how time and time again Bill Clinton would "triangulate" against his own party and his own base, the progressives, and pass a law from the Republican wish list: NAFTA, welfare reform, financial deregulation, or not help pass the Kyoto protocols which would have been a feather in the cap for his Vice-President Gore. And when real progressives would scream at the conservative policies of Bill Clinton most Democrats and even many progressives would give the Clintons a pass because they believed the lies the Clintons told about how they were really progressives and liberals and they were on the side of the people and not big corporations . THE CLINTONS ARE NOT AND HAVE NEVER BEEN PROGRESSIVES!

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/david-sirota/dems-driving-triangulatio_b_48907.html

And Hillary Clinton will do it again. Most progressives will accept the heated rhetoric of Obama's Rev. Wright as being incendiary but also correct on some of the issues. After 9/11 he preached(a bit extremely I must admit) that the attacks were blowback from American misdeeds around the world; what progressive(or intelligent person) would disagree? In 2003 he preached "not god bless America but god damn America" because of the America's crimes against its own people: crimes like slavery, like genocide against Native-Americans, like the illegal internment of Japanese-Americans; again, just like most reasonable people would condemn a relative for committing murder most progressives would agree that America should be condemned for these crimes against its own people. But wait and see, the Clinton campaign will triangulate against the progressives by appealing to the false "America right or wrong" pseudo-patriots and the less aware conservative Republicans, Independents, and Democrats who don't care if America ever does evil in the world. The Clinton's have already thrown overboard the support of the African-American community and the progressives will be next.

By falsely identifying themself as a progressive, the poster hiding behind the screenname alegre is just once again siding with conservatives Republicans and using Clinton triangulation to destroy the Democratic Party.

Don't be fooled! The Clintons and alegre ARE NOT PROGRESSIVES!

I am and have been a progressive since the 60's. I am also a Hillary supporter. I have been on strike from BuzzFlash and Kos and somewhat here at Huff Post. I could cry at the venomous comments in the blogiosphere from so called progressives. There is more vitriol from these people than I have heard from right wing nut jobs. They slam Hillary and Bill more than Bush. You would think Hillary had cast the deciding vote on the war. Obama is going to be the destruction of the Democratic party, mark my words. his whole thrust is to split the Dems and win one half. He is a naive religious afrocentric wannabe. He wants to fulfill the dreams of his father. He has abandoned his white heritage and become super black. His pastor and mentor is a hate monger with a message that will alienate anybody with a particle of disdain for religious zealots and fundamentalists. What a sad state of affairs. Hillary is a decent person and, though not perfect, has my confidence. Obama, not so much. What else is there waiting in the wings for the onslaught to begin on Obama? It ain't going to be pretty. And he will fold. Hillary will fight tooth and nail. And that is what I want.

What I want to know is where are you and I getting our news from. Seriously. Because my impression in these last weeks since we voted here in NH is the same as yours... with the names switched.

Destruction of the Democratic Party? How much more destructive can you be than to tell the world "If you don't vote for me, go out and vote for the Republican, because he's more fit to be President than my Democratic opponent is"?

Have you paid ANY attention to what Obama says? Not what the Clinton campaign SAYS he says, but what he ACTUALLY says? He's all about bringing us together, in a way that we've not been (as a nation) since shortly after Bill Clinton took office. That was arguably not his fault, but more the fault of the comically named "vast right-wing conspiracy" known as Fox News and their ilk. Nevertheless, we as a nation really need to stop being divided and looking at each other as the enemy.

So I really wonder, when it comes down to it, where we're each getting our news from, and why the things I'm seeing are so different from what you're seeing. Am I getting it wrong? Are you? Or is there more to it that neither of us is seeing?

Liam.
