Kos Writers Strike

Daily Kos:

This is an open letter to the progressive blogosphere...

I've been posting at DailyKos for nearly 4 years now and started writing diaries in support of Hillary Clinton back in June of last year. Over the past few months I've noticed that things have become progressively more abusive toward my candidate and her supporters.

I've put up with the abuse and anger because I've always believed in what our on-line community has tried to accomplish in this world. No more. DailyKos is not the site it once was thanks to the abusive nature of certain members of our community.

I've decided to go on "strike" and will refrain from posting here as long as the administrators allow the more disruptive members of our community to trash Hillary Clinton and distort her record without any fear of consequence or retribution. I will not be posting at DailyKos effective immediately. I will not help drive up traffic or page-hits as long as my candidate - a good and fine DEMOCRAT - is attacked in such a horrid and sexist manner not only by other diarists, but by several of those posting to the front page.

Hi Kos HRC supporters::

DON'T CARE.

Want to cry over spilt milk--try knocking the chip off your own shoulder first and quit blaming Obama supporters there.
you need to recognize the "victim-card' you and HRC so readily want to play to anyone who dissents with you or brings up any kind of criticism about your candidate..
How bout putting on your big-girl(boy) pants and actually LISTENING to the criticism of your candidate and defend her based her platforms/ideologies---and not taking discussion into the gutter with charges of Mysogeny, sexism....
Theres' enough there THERE--from the ambiguity in HRC's answers about Obama about his religion(60 Min), bringing up his race constantly, to signing a pledge NOT to campaign in Fla & Mich since they primaried early and reneging on that pledge, to trying to overturn the will of voters in over 29 states (to capture the majority delegate count and popular-vote) and call those voters "irrelevant", to her AUMF in Iraq vote...
These aren't things that the Obama campaign did-these are the HRC-camp doings--- and the Obama camp legitimately bringing it up..
.Nothing sexist about it..

You wanna dish it but you can't take it much......and resort to whining and boycotts......
You did Kos a favor.
Thanks.

America thinks he is the lesser of two evils.

Yes the truth is out there.
And America has decided which truth matters

So where's the defense of HRC records and all of the above-mentioned HRC platforms?? (AUMF, FLA/MICH Pledge,...)

GCW HRC diarists:: need any snacks yet???
Must be lonely for ya to realize right now------that you're running out of people to blame for your problems......
That's what Obamas' talking 'bout----Stop blaming any/everyone else and create the world you want to live in..Going along with status quo politics ain't it-
YOU-Didi-don't get anything out of it (but USED for your vote)-the politicians/corporate world do. Another reason HRC has some splainin to do about all of her lobbyist connections-Hsu, Tan, Burkle, Monsanto.....

It's why I'm voting for CHANGE and Transparency in govt.

Hey, Hillary was pointing out her strengths. Then she was deemed as being abusive. She did find a couple of supporters that she did not want stating ugly things, she let them go.

Nasty and Abusive? Showing your strengths is not Nasty and Abusive. The comments and attacks against Hillary's so called "nasty" campaign is the weak out cry of those who were afraid that Obama was getting picked on. Why, because she brought up good points. And those who felt threaten by those points used them to CRY about how unfair it was. Spinning it out of proportion and using worse strategic methods of ugliness then what they were accussing Hillary of doing.

Obama once stated that he thought his supporters were "delusional". I would strongly agree.

I hear ya on this one. I get mad at Hillary sometimes but I'm also really tired of arguing. I feel like a kid watching her parents scream at each other--"can I go to bed soon?"

I can't wait for the nomination to be over so we can do the work we really need to do. In the meantime I will try to get my Republican congressman voted out. Unlikely, but it is worth a try.

Why strike. If anything you should be blogging in force for your candidate. If I was fortunate enough to have a chance to blog about my candidate of choice, Obama, to a national audience, I would not bow down to those I disagree with my point of view. It is sad that she can't take the heat for Hillary. The internet is a vast new frontier, controlled by the people and not by sponsors or special interest groups. You can't bully free thinking people to conform to your way of thinking and if this blogger thought so, then maybe she is just in the wrong field. I challenge a true Clinton supporter to take up the reins and stand up for your candidate.

Don't boycott Dailykos because in the end we all lose. This country was founded on ideas and the freedom of expression. Express yourself. Be strong. Don't give up. Remember a chain is only as weak as it's weakest link. Hillary strength comes for her supporters. (Jesus, I can't believe I'm actually encouraging Hillary supporters. I have to look at the ingredients in my White Castles coffee. It might be laced with compassion... lol) Sincerely, I know it can get a little heated and down right nasty at times. But remember people at the end of the day the enemy is the Republican Party and whether Hillary or Obama gets the nomination, we need your voice. Some of you are so gifted when it comes to replies and comebacks, we will eat the Repubs for lunch when they post in support of McSame.

It's called taking your ball and going home. Pro-Clinton DNC donors are doing the same thing--they're saying let the January vote count or we want our money back from the DNC.

Now that--the money blackmail thing--does make me really mad. OT--there is another thread on that. But I donated some money to the DNC to make up for it. No candidate's supporters should demand the party's money back.

How ironic is it that the supporters of Hillary Clinton who in the beginning of this process called Obama supporters cultist, fanatics, delusional and every other thing in the book now are so upset. This is the type of hypocrisy that is destroying america.

When Hillary was leading every poll and coasting on her way to victory....it was fine to criticize us nut's, zealots, fools , naive and outright unintelligent. Hell even Hillary MOCKED our choice for president.
Now......now when your down and out you cry foul. Your candidate and your treatment of me when we were a lowly 30 percent in the polls have given me a thick skin in your regard. If any of you can go through any forums related to obama and the election and NOT see a smear against Obama then I say more power to you.

Darkbase:

Obama lack of judgment is responsible for the negative posts against him. I don't think calling them "smears" is appropriate. The posts are a response to "fact". The smears against Hillary on the other hand, were base on distortions and lies.

As for not wanting to see anymore negative Obama posts... well I think your going to be sorely disappointed.

I echo your sentiment. And what about Hillary herself mocking every group that she could not win. Iowans were the smartest prior to the caucus. Once she lost, Iowa was not representative of the people. Then, South Carolina was really only about blacks -- so ignore them. And so on down it went. Every state/caucus she did not win --- really did not matter. That's why the Kos called it the "Insult 40" states strategy.
So HRC and team can insult and mock but others cannot point out the truth about them.

I used to enjoy reading Daily Kos because it was the one site that took the big picture in electing democrats. It is just about the only site where you can go to and find the vulnerable house votes, find where to donate money to someone and find who progressives supported to take back congress. It was the internet and politics at its best.
However with anyone able to write diaries (I much prefer a "bio" so I know who is giving me the information I am reading) and all comments allowed, it is also the internet near its worst. I understand why this person has called a strike (although I think boycott is a better word) because within the last month I haven't been able to stand going to it either. I very rarely even read the comment section, but the diaries are even now getting as bad as the comments used to be. I get that Kos isn't going to have monitors on his site and allows the community to police itself, but it just ends up with conflict after conflict and the Hillary hating is beyond the pale over there. And once he decided that Obama was his guy, he dropped all of his progressive measures for him and they portray Hillary as their republican enemy even though all of her policies - economic, healthcare and getting out of the war are more progressive than Obama's.

Kos' goal was to get progressives nominated into Congress - not just democrats - but also even blue dog democrats if they will replace a republican. I agree with his big picture, but what has evolved over there is political passions at their worst. His website is one of those helping to split the democratic party down the middle. The voters are about 50/50 between Obama and Hillary, and politics aside it would be a better business decision to keep everyone going to your site.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 12:29 PM on 03/16/2008

Bloggers aren't 50/50 between Obama and Hillary.

The more informed (junkies) are going to sway to Obama, it only got really ugly after Clinton began her Commander in Chief bit. She deserves the criticism she gets in a Dem forum after her appalling campaign.

Don't blame the hate on anything other than Clinton herself. She's generating it!

Sounds accurate to me.

How is Obama supposed to defend himself against Hilary and the Democrats saying he is not Qualified.

That is such a serious stance, to say that your party has voted someone who is not Qualified, because they did not choose you [Hillary].

It just shows that she is not a STATESMAN/ Person which is a quality we should expect in a President.

Hilary is the New Nader. Obama will win the Nomination and lose the General, thanks in large part to Hillary Clinton.

y'all want to scream and holler at the attacks on hillary, but yet you have no problem with slimy tactics used by hillary (and the clintons in general). you're hypocrites. your candidate has said that the repig candidate would make a better president than her fellow dem candidate. and you want to get all up in arms about attacks on her? please! the fact that you can support someone like that, again, shows where your mind is. don't think your writings will be missed.

GoodGuys....:

I think this page, filled with Obama supporters 'inspiring, unifying posts'... (that I'm pretty sure a lot of people will take a look at today) will help create a greater sense of understanding... over why the writer of this article is offended to the point of disgust.

As far as I'm concerned, I think the whole world should take a look at what Obama supporters are all about.

Go Hillary!

But it's not what the SUPPORTERS are all about, it's what the CANDIDATES are all about. Although it's instructive to see that when an Obama staffer calls Clinton "a monster" she's fired within a day, but when a Clinton staffer calls Obama an affirmative action candidate, it takes a month and that staffer's own initiative before that staffer is gone.

No, the real problem is that any candidate who would tell the world "If you don't vote for me, vote for the other party's candidate rather than someone else in my party" is displaying a disgusting "anything to win, screw my principles or what I supposedly stand for" attitude, and it's unforgivable.

Of course, you can find nuts under any tree. Shake hard enough, you'll find Obama nuts and Clinton nuts and McCain nuts and Edwards nuts and Romney nuts and... they all have nutcase supporters. It doesn't mean anything.

It's what the candidates themselves say and what they condone among those who are directly working for them. And in this, it is clear that Obama, not Clinton, is the one who most reminds me of an idealistic young up-and-comer in the early '90s, full of positive energy and enthusiasm. That once up-and-comer's wife has become the establishment, willing to say or do (or have said or done on her behalf) anything it takes to win, including everything in her power to hand the Presidency back to the Republicans if she can't have it herself.

No, it's not the supporters that matter. It's the candidates themselves. And Hillary Clinton has not made a good showing for herself at all. I have my reservations about Barack Obama (I was an Edwards guy until he dropped out), but they're nothing compared to my reservations about Hillary and my extreme disappointment that my opinion of Bill has been so tarnished.

Liam.

Obama supporters are about change, looking at the world from some other perspective than the Washington Establishment - Looking at Obama seeing that he has done things differently and liking that. Is he a 100%? no he is not. Neither are the Clinton's. I apologize but I see Barak Obama has authentic and I no longer see the Clinton's that way.

TheDailyKos has the right to support the candidate it choses. Arianna Huffington also supports Senator Obama, and those of us who come here regularly know that Hillary supporters come here also and Arianna gives them air time although they trash her and the site to no ends. It is not so on the other side, the pro-Clinton blogs. Taylor Marsh, who BTW is a guest poster here, is an example. I have not come across a more vitriolic pro-Clinton blog, and if you try to post a comment there, even a civil one, you can't get on. The same goes for Jeralyn Merritt and Big Tent Democrat of TalkLeft. So for them to accuse Kos and the Kossacks of being unfairly pro-Obama or anti-Clinton, whichever way you want to phrase it, seems like a huge instance of the kettle calling the pot black.

Yes, there is one pro Clinton blogger here. I'd say the ratio is 15:1 when the population is split about 50:50. I hear that Fox news also allows a democrat or two on their shows so they can say they are "fair and balanced".
I'm sure it also gives a POV that they can then rally against, for without conflict, how are all the supporters supposed to stay edgy and a bit peeved so they still keep fighting (and posting comments)?

I read PLENTY of blogs by pro-Hillary people here, and they are pretty vicious in their attacks on Senator Obama. Not surprising. Those are the kind of folks the Clintons attract.
