Kos Writers Strike

Daily Kos:

This is an open letter to the progressive blogosphere...

I've been posting at DailyKos for nearly 4 years now and started writing diaries in support of Hillary Clinton back in June of last year. Over the past few months I've noticed that things have become progressively more abusive toward my candidate and her supporters.

I've put up with the abuse and anger because I've always believed in what our on-line community has tried to accomplish in this world. No more. DailyKos is not the site it once was thanks to the abusive nature of certain members of our community.

I've decided to go on "strike" and will refrain from posting here as long as the administrators allow the more disruptive members of our community to trash Hillary Clinton and distort her record without any fear of consequence or retribution. I will not be posting at DailyKos effective immediately. I will not help drive up traffic or page-hits as long as my candidate - a good and fine DEMOCRAT - is attacked in such a horrid and sexist manner not only by other diarists, but by several of those posting to the front page.

Ok, so Hillary supporters have decided to just be quite (aka boycott) web postings during this time of the campaign cycle. Basically, Hillary will lose her cheering squad when she needs it most. This logic of a boycott is just idiotic. Now I read they want to boycott the Huffington post as well. If you keep it up, Hillary will not only lose, she will lose completely and not even have a strong base in which to get a speech a the convention.

THE BOYCOTT IS IDIOTIC, BUT THEN IT'S RIGHT IN LINE WITH HILLARY'S "I'M A VICTIM, SO LET'S CHANGE THE RULES IN MY FAVOR" STRATEGY.

Do you really think Hillary supporters will stop posting?

More likely is it's Nixon II -- remember the "Silent Majority"? Now every pro-Hillary post will be heralded as a brave example of free speech in support of this unfairly belaguered but really oh-so-wonderful candidate.

Their candidate is milking the victim role. Why shouldn't they try it, too?

Four more years of Clinton (and surrogates') manipulation, misrepresentations, whining, and divisiveness. Can't wait.

There is nothing progressive about Hillary Clinton anymore. She is running a devisive campaign and has no respect for the Democratic Party. It's all about her and her slowly failing grasp of power. It's the amateur hour for Hillary and Bill Clinton and it's now time for the new guard to take over the party.
Clinton supporters should go on strike at Daily Kos. It's a blog for progressives and there's no reason for them to air their support for such a destructive and useless candidate . Maybe they'll find more people open to their views on Republican blogs. Better yet - get Geraldine Ferraro to start her own "progressive (Italian-style old school racist) blog.

For some reason I had thought that Daily Kos writers were smart people, until this story appeared. Any one who purports to be a liberal left winger, like the people at the Daily Kos, will not and should not support a person like Hillary Clinton, especially after her racist attacks through subordinates, and her endorsement of McCain.

Glad to hear the Kos has woken up to the Betrayal of Hillary.

Seh has betrayed our Party, Our country and the Woman of this country.
I voted for Ferraro in '84- now I realize I was a Starry eyyed misguided 'Feminist'
I WILL NOT BE FOOLED AGAIN. I am an Equal Opprtunity employer- I do Not think Nor vote with My Vagina! Reverse Sexism is Still Sexism- and with Hillary's campaign she has proven her Racism. Neither of which I support, in fact am working very hard to continue to over come.
Wake Up and Smell the Coffee. sister- your candidate works for the same Corps and Foreign sponsors as DICK (just in Drag).
Obama was NOT my first choice, but I'm willing to Roll the Dice becasue as far as Hillary's Presidency goes I've been there and Done that. I appreciate the responses.

Please rise above the name calling. Do you really believe that almost half of the Democratic party is 'oblivious'?

Please understand that Obama and Clinton are both politicians who can be ruthless at times and compromise on important progressive issues. If you hate Clinton, just admit it and try not to justify your feelings with personal attacks on her.

Yes, there are some Clinton supporters who are attacking Obama. However, it is a small minority of the posts.

The Obama campaign should not feel so frustrated. They have been doing a good job of winning the primaries. If Clinton pulls out, both the Mainstream Media and Republican attack machines will going after Obama in a major way. You ain't seen nothing yet.

Why are you "I'm embarrassed every time she complains of sexism?" Do you believe that there is no sexism in the US? How much of the Mainstream Media is controlled by non-white or non-males?

I hope that the behavior of the Obama supporters does not turn off too many Democrats in the general.

If Clinton pulls out?

According to the numbers, there is no way she can pull out. Obama has the majority of delegates, no matter which way you count it.

The only way Clinton could pull out would involve a few minority overruling the majority and/or some type of finagling and dishonesty.

Clinton supporters, do you really want her to get the job under those circumstances? If so, how would that be any different than what we have now?

"The only way Clinton could pull out would involve a few minority overruling the majority and/or some type of finagling and dishonesty."

Unless I am mistaken, I believe that Obama does not currently have enough delegates to win the nomination.

Unless I am mistaken, I believe that the Democrats are planning to hold a convention to select the nominee.

Unless I am mistaken, I believe that the Democrats pledged to follow this process before the primary season began.

Clinton and Obama should both have a chance to make their case at the convention.

That being said, I believe that Obama currently has a better chance at earning the nomination.

"Yes, there are some Clinton supporters who are attacking Obama. However, it is a small minority of the posts."

Its a small percentage NOW........wasn't in December, wasn't in January. You have to understand that what you are seeing in posts is the shift of the country in general . More Obama posts now because of more Obama supporters now. That doesn't change the fact that I bet at least 50 percent of the original supporters or early swing voters remember and were wounded by the laserlike insults and forum posts. You CANNOT start a fight then when you start losing go....wait your hitting too hard or hitting me too much. Clinton and her supporters took this personal! Go back....look at the early Obama posts before she went negative (change you can xerox)
Nearly all posts were about hope for the future and change, replies to these comments were acidic. Then she goes negative and her supporters right along with her. You have now set the tone Clinton supporters. You all have gotten more than you expected on both fronts. Why don't you cry about it? Vindictive.....at this point ....absolutely.

Instead of ripping each other to shreds, we should be putting pressure on our superdelegates and party leaders to insure the superdelegates vote the will of the people. After PA, if Hillary can't statistically close the popular vote gap (taking into account a possible revote in Florida and Michigan), the superdelegates should pledge their votes to Obama and end this clusterfuck. I think this is the most likely scenario. In the meantime, Hillary is not the devil anymore than Barack is a saint. Can't we all just get along?

Oh, and another thought. Lets DO AWAY with the stupid superdelegates after this primary.

Perhaps you should from your own blog - clearly hrc does not think the democratic party is for her, she appears focused on forming her own "clinton party", please join her if you like.

Finally someone has taken a stand on this non-stop attacking of Senator Clinton.
The hatred, lies and ignorance that fill air time, blog time borders on the pathological.
Cottage Industries have been created around it, and it makes no sense.
This is a woman who has done more for children, women, minorities than almost anyone.
It is beyond unfair, it is sick. When Senator Clinton wins a primary, it is played down,
when St. Obama wins by one point, or wins a state he could never carry in a general election,
it's the Second Coming.

Obama can't be questioned on anything, - not his record, his lack of a record, his associates,
his slimy behind-the-scenes campaign, his many many lies - which are on tape.
His "Non Present" when it's time to vote and on and on and on...

This race has become increasingly depressing on so many fronts, and once again, real issues
are not being discussed. Global Warming barely mentioned, a long list of major issues that
effect every single person in this country never mentioned. And a media that is on their knees
to an arrogrant empty suit. In 2004, headlines in European newspapers shouted, "How Can The
American People Be So Dumb?" In 2008, those same headlines may be shouting, "How Can
The American People Be So Easily Duped?"

In your post you called the senator from Illinois "St. Obama"; referred to his behind-the-scenes campaign as "slimy" ;called him a liar and an "arrogant empty suit." (I will admit, these accusations are mild compared to many, many others that I've read). Now Hillary supporters will read your post and say to themselves "yeah, that's exactly what he is." Pretty soon they will read another post stating that only the Obama camp is being divisive, and they will agree most vehemently on that score, too. Obama supporters, on the other hand, will read your invectives and be infuriated, perhaps retaliating with some name calling of their own.

You will then decry the barbarous slings and arrows directed at you and your candidate, complain about how we're not talking about global warming, etc., etc. And so it will go...

If you want to persuade, and you truly care about those important issues that you mentioned, if you truly want a democratic president, stop with the name calling, okay? We can all play the victim if we choose to.

Yeah, maybe THISTLE could interview the women and children of Iraq (the ones still living) to see find out what she "has done" for them with her uninformed, cowardly, politically-motivated vote to allow Bush to invade their country preemptively.

Maybe all you Obamabots could stop acting like you're about 10 years old. Your "stix and stones" approach to politics is ridiculous. If this is what Obama inspires in his minnions, I would hope he had the good sense to be embarrassed.

And yes I have seen anti-Obama posts on this site and The Daily Kos, but never are they as hateful, despicable and venomous as those from HIllary haters.

It's stupid stuff like this that makes me embarrassed to be a Democrat, and not want to waste my time reading The Daily Kos. Only Democrats, who in this political season should be winning offices like fishing in a barrel, could screw it up and let McCain win. Look, Hillary is damaged goods, and will ignite the nastiest election mudfest in recent memory--it's all the Republicans have, but they have a boatload of money to do it with. She and Bill have had their run, and they did what they could. Time to let a real winner in.

A big diffrence between emphasizing positive aspects of the Clinton Administration, or discussing Clinton's positive works, and distorting facts and launching underhanded, innuendo filled attacks on Obama. My problem is I have a fairly negative view of the Clinton Administration, and until people resisted the "vast-rightwing conspiracy" polls showed a good portion of people didn't have a positive view of it either. And anything I have seen recently from the Clinton campaign, has been negative or an attack on Obama, the most positive thing I have noticed out of the Clinton camp was about McCain! Going back to the start most Americans don't care for the one who is "Inevitable" they care about the underdog. The Clinton campaign and supporters are just reaping what they have sown. If you want positive responses stop with the negative, or misleading posts!

And while I have noticed sexism in some responses. Just because we are not for Hillary does not mean we are sexist. And I have not noticed alot of articles that I would call sexist except from Clinton supporters! Your worrying about the speck in someone elses eye, worry about the log in your own!

OH, MAN OH, MAN. If only we could get Hillary to do the same. If only we could get Hillary to gather up her marbles and GO HOME!!!

Is this not absofuckinglutely amazing? Someone is going "on strike" because the rest of us do not fall to our knees in gratitute to Hillary Clinton and, of course, Bill Clinton.

Can these people become any more irrelevant and ridiculous?

I wonder if the use of blogs to further one candidate or another so blatantly will split the blog readers as it has, obviously, at the Kos.

Objectivity may turn out to be the real winner.

Perhaps Obama needs to go on strike for her starting it off on the wrong foot to begin with. She has constantly been discussing what Obama is not capable of (according to her) instead of telling the voters what she is capable of. Long story short.. we see Loud and Clear what she IS capable of.. SMEAR. Go Obama.

I was very moved to see the list of supporters for this writer's strike effort. I totally agree with her comments as I have seen the same behavior on other progressive, liberal sites. This site definitely supports Obama, as well and I have written some critical pieces here. But, in all fairness, I have not experienced the same type of backlash, maybe because it wasn't worthy enough, but, still. :) Still, I wish you all take a lesson from what happened and ensure the same diversity of opinion on this site which should be the hallmark of a free society.

Do you have any concerns for the many like Taylor Marsh who support Clinton. Or are you whiners still hanging onto the win at all costs with lies strategy?

See Camarosc made a very respectable observation from her point of view. Why do you have to call her a whiner and so on? It's not necessary and it's divisive. We don't have to be objective here; this is a blog. But at least understand that we need each other if we're going to win in November.

Whiners are the basis of her support, it's what she attracts, as in "The Law of Attraction," "Birds of a Feather..."
